Micro 4/3 Peebles Island -- last day of the year

A gray, grim day. The water going over the dam was amazing. The eagles nest looked forlorn. This was the only wildlife we found. The water flow almost flattened the rapids. Cheers, Jock

Micro 4/3 Awesome skies again, tried a couple of panoramas

It looked exactly the same, with the same alignment of the clouds and the tree branches . . . the same weirdness.

Micro 4/3 Awesome skies again, tried a couple of panoramas

I agree. It is weird, and I can't decide if that is just a coincidence or an artifact of the stitching process. Additional: I just looked at the original frames and they do show bands of color, but they don't appear to line up with the tree branches in the same way as shown in the composite...

    600, 1200mm comparison -- Rx10, Oly M1

Well, it strikes me that the 75-300 comes in third, and that the 25-150 at 2x digital zoom (600mm e) does pretty well against the RX10 lens. The 75-300 appears to be the least "contrasty" of the three. Any of them, though, would be plenty good enough if I ever get a chance to document Bigfoot...

Micro 4/3 Foul weather camera -- first light

Not only that, but they wear denim. Whoda thunkit? It sounds like the name of a band: the Denim Denizens . . . not sure what musical space they occupy, though. I agree. I really like the handgrip; as the sports car mags used to say: "the controls fall readily to hand," and it small, compared...

Micro 4/3 Foul weather camera -- first light

Thanks to the kindness of one of the denizens here, I am now in possession of a camera that will be my go-to rig when the snow flies, the rain falls, the sleet drives, etc. It is an Olympus OMD E-M1 original edition, fitted with the Olympus 14-150 MkII. This gives me 28-300 e, extending to 600...

Advice Wanted Uh-oh, I'm at it again . . . wanted: your recommendation for a camera for "harm's way"

Stopped by Peebles Island today on the way to church. This is what we saw: Thick, dense, moisture-laden fog. So I didn't take my big gun (RX10 Mk4) and instead took the XP90. I got a few shots, but I'm not really pleased with the technical image quality and the lack of a viewfinder (which...

    Video vs. Stills

I shot this about a year ago with the RX10 IV, having no basic idea what I was doing. DP Review rates it as pretty capable for both stills and video. I certainly enjoy using it and look forward to learning more about the video capabilities. Cheers, Jock

    Moon photography advice wanted.

I really need some advice on this. Maybe it's a dynamic range problem or perhaps a "difference between the human eye and the camera sensor problem, but here goes . . . We're driving home last night, come around a corner start up a hill, and there's this absolutely HUGE full moon hanging just...

"Aviation Photo Thread" (Planes, Helos, Balloons, etc)...

Does anyone have photos of the tail turret of the Wellington WWII bomber? My Dad was a tail gunner in one of those. I've done a little looking online, and, so far, I'm not impressed with what I've seen. Cheers, Jock

    The spotter-in-chief strikes again

The first thing you need to know is my better half, aka spotter-in-chief, is one-eighth Mohawk native American. She looks about as native as, say, an Irish step dancer, which is to say not at all. There are times, however, when she exhibits freakish distance vision and preternatural awareness of...

Canon The rest of the story . . .

For those who saw my original post on getting my hand caught in an electric car window -- Why don't car windows have a safety feedback mechanism? (gross picture warning) -- I offer this update. Just after I saw the hand specialist (orthopedics), he went on vacation. My next visit was to his...
