Fuji continue to Kaizen and have released new firmware for the X-T3. This brings the AF improvements from the X-T4, so far it looks pretty quick to me but not had a chance to try with the 100-400 which would be the real test. There are quite a few other changed like software based focus...
Several years ago my wife and I took a trip to Arizona with all of our parents. The trip was arranged by my parents because my father had a life long desire to see the Grand Canyon, having been inspired by a book he read in the early 1950s when first starting out as a professional photographer...
As I mentioned in one of the GAS threads, I am a bagaholic. There, I have admitted it, so now I can move on.
The TT Retrospective 20 v2.0 is superb. I really like the material, it feels durable and well put together but at the same time the colour is quite subtle. There are no markings outside...
I made the mistake of wandering into the electrical store in Heathrow last week, assuming that they wouldn't have anything interesting.
Unfortunately, they had a 100-400...
It was big and heavy but not as much as I thought it would be. The OIS works really well and I want to start getting...
I've been trying my hand at wildlife for the past few days. My only decently long lens (past 90) is the 50-230 and I tried it out yesterday on some local birds. I was using single drive mode and AFC with a 5x5 zone and found it a struggle to get anything sharp. These are the best three from the...
We went for a walk in Hunstanton, Norfolk at the weekend. I had the 16,65 and 90 with me. Didn't find any reason not to just use the 90 for the entire morning.
Went for a hike around Upper Derwent Reservoir in Derbyshire this morning. Weather was bright but with cloud but with no chance of rain, so I kept the 56/1.2 on for the whole hike - rather than using either the 16 or 90. All processed in Capture One
Okay, so I got back from a week long trip where I had my laptop so processed pictures as I went - using LR/PS and Silver Efex. Towards the end of the week I started to notice worms, and lots of them - even at 100% which didn't seem to be the case previously. I think that if I turn of all...
Initial impressions:
Not as big/heavy as I thought it would be
Super sharp (even at f2)
Quick
Close focus is better than I expected (should have known this from reading the specs)
I think that my core kitbag is going to be 16, 90, 56 in that order. I'm struggling to see what other lens I might...
The changes are mainly related to video but they have added a couple of extra display indicators:
- Kelvin value for WB when WB set manually
- Charging icon when camera is plugged into USB or charging from the grip
I will probably look to get this update installed in the next couple of days.
Two pictures, one processed in LR and Silver Efex, and the other just processed in LR.
1)
2)
I prefer #2 but would be interested to see what others think.
X-T3 is slightly beefier, both in terms of size and weight. The size difference is barely noticeable (and it is still a good size) but the weight increase is definitely noticeable. However, I would not say that this is a heavy camera.
I've mainly shot with the mechanical shutter and it is...
I took my X-T1 and 16/1.4 on a work trip to Boston MA last week.

I'm currently shooting with an X-T1, which I really like. But, there is an itch starting to develop and I've started considering whether to look at adding a new body in the next 6 months or so.
My choices are going to be X-T2, X-T3 or X-H1. I think that X-T2 and X-H1 are fairly comparable...
Following on from my series of black and white views from the countryside around Haworth (Around Haworth, Yorkshire (Image Heavy)), here are some colour pictures from within the village itself.
This is the interior of the church, it has been rebuilt since Patrick Bronte was parson here.
To...
Haworth is a small village in West Yorskshire. It's main claim to fame is that Patrick Bronte was the local parson during the 19th century, and Charlotte, Emily and Anne Bronte lived in the parsonage until their early deaths.

Inspired by @MoonMind here are some random pictures from the trip I'm currently on.
Noss Head is North of Wick, the lighthouse is automated these days but would have been manned in past times.
Castle Sinclair Girnigoe is near Noss. The castle has a lot of history attached, including being...
Now that the 56/1.2 has joined my lens lineup I have been struggling to find a place for the venerable 35/1.4. However, a while back I thought why not just stick it on my X-E2 and see what happens. That coupled with realising that the Peak Design field pouch holds this combo perfectly means that...
I'd like to get off the Adobe subscription, so I am reassessing my workflow. Right now I am looking at Open Source only, so I am not planning to drop any cash right now - even for perpetual licenses.
I've come across XnViewMP which seems pretty good for import and review of the pictures.
I'm...
This video attempts to explain the demise of Kodak, and I thik it does make some interesting points.
I remember my late father coming back from a Kodak conference (I think in the early/mid 80s). During one talk, the Kodak speaker had held up a colour 120 negative and declared that there would...
Finally found the perfect use for my Peak Design field pouch - it is just right for an X-E2 with 35/1.4 - leaves room for a couple of spare batteries and memory cards. I'm using the Peak Design leash as a strap, so really lightweight and hardly takes up much room in my work laptop bag.
Overnight I received a large number of "favourites" for a bunch of my pictures from a group of Flickr "users" who all have avatars of young ladies' faces, have joined in 2018, have never posted any pictures and have random collections of letters instead of real names. For example, "Renee Thomas"...
I'm running the latest version of LR CC, and I think it is a backward step on previous versions.
I run LR on a laptop with an external monitor. I tend to have the workspace open on the laptop and use the external monitor as my preview (because it is calibrated). However, I notice that if I zoom...
I just wanted to note that although this isn't the most active forum on the internet, I really value the advice and support that everyone here offers.
I've asked a few pretty specific questions (especially about lenses) over the past few months and I have received excellent advice and answers...
So, finally I need to get this off my chest.
I volunteer for my local sea cadet unit (where one of my kids goes) and they've asked me to deal with all of the photos of events etc. We live out in the country so is a 20 mile drive to the unit (which is local to where I work).
A few weeks ago, it...
It was about three years ago that I picked up a cheap Fuji X-E1 to use with some manual focus Nikon fit lenses. Back then I didn't see myself committing to a new system but I realised last week that this is what has now happened.
It started with the two Samyang lenses (21/1.4 and 12/2) but the...
Anyone using one of these for their Fuji kit? I'm considering the 10L version. I'm worried it looks bulky, but I like the look of the dividers and the tripod straps.
Max kit I would be looking to take is either:
X-T1 (probably gripped) with 16/1.4 mounted. Samyang12/2, Fuji 35/1.4 and Fuji...
I was trying to take a picture of the dog running today and selected AF-C on the front dial of the X-T1 then tried to focus by half pressing the shutter however nothing happened. Realised that the lens was in MF mode (I had moved the clutch) and then pushed it back and suddenly I could focus...
Travelling back from Washington last week, I was booked on a 10pm flight that was delayed until 11:40pm so I grabbed some pics in the terminal to fill the time (all taken with my new 16/1.4 friend on my X-T1).
Transiting between terminals, standing room only ;)
Obligatory close up, wide...
Finally got round to reading this book. I always assumed that it was Robert Capa's autobiography but it is actually his memoir of his work in WWII and is a great read.
Not a lot about photographic techniques but an exciting and engaging tale of fighting through red tape whilst following the...
Just got the Photography Talk inspirational photo of the day email and clicked through the link to find my own picture.
On the edge Photo in Album Stream Photos - Photographer: Andy
I'm going to enter this in the February round of my online photo club competition to see how they react ;)
Is anyone taking on or in the middle of a personal photo project (or two) at the moment?
I've tried to do that for the past few years. The first couple of years my theme was simply black and white, which was fairly general but did let me learn what I like and don't like in black and white...
I'e been on Flickr for 10 years now, and had amassed over 3,000 pictures on my photostream. Last week I decided to remove all the dead wood from my account, and went through culling them.
I now have just over 100, which I consider to be my best work - I might go through these again and cut even...
I want to get one more AF lens to round out (for now) my lens collection. I want something to carry around on holiday etc so I can let other family members borrow the camera.
I had a play with a 35/2 yesterday and it was pretty good. I know it would do everything I want, plus having WR etc. but...
I find this to be a very versatile lens.
This is at minimum focusing distance (0.28m) - the statue is beside a pub doorway and the head is only a few inches tall:

I've done a search but I can't find anyone on here using this lens. I have one (one of the very few lenses I have ever bought new) and it is my day to workhorse lens on my X-T1.
Anyone else using one of these?
Andy
I mainly shoot manual focus primes. My main walkaround lens is the Samyang 21/1.4 and I'll usually have a Samyang 12/2 and Nikon 50/1.4AIS on me as well.
I own some longer manual focus lenses, and some zooms but I struggle with focusing if things are moving - my hit rate is abysmal. I could...
I've been over at Nikon Cafe for a few years, but crossed from Nikon to Fuji X a few years ago.
Currently, my main Fuji is an X-T1 but I also have an X-E1 and X-E2 around the place (mainly being used by my daughters).
I own one native Fuji lens - the 18/2, two Samyang lenses (12/2 and 21/1.4)...
