Film Your ISO rating for HP5+

I think the strategy of shooting EI 200 is to lift shadows and the dark areas with a hint of detail away from the tow of the curve, allowing the highlights to take care of themselves. However, using an incident lightmeter I'm getting good results at ISO400.

Leica Leica CEO Oliver Kaltner will meet with us on May 31

I wish someone would ask Leica why repairs take so long. I sent my 6-month old M240 back to Germany due to intermittent 'black frames' being recorded (no, not the lens hood, and I returned my camera prior to the recent firmware being released). That was over three weeks ago and I'm still without...

Leica Some firmware updates are out.

Read elsewhere, some users are having issues with the 246 post update: 'black frames'. Maybe coincidental, maybe finger problem with the update procedure. I know all too well about black frames with my M240, but in my case it was intermittent. The complaint post firmware update seems to be a...

Bikes and canals - you've depicted Amsterdam in the autum well. Nice set. Btw, I've used a Leica coupled with a 35mm cron in the rain and didn't seem to suffer (not my own - borrowed on an Leica Akadamie training day).

    Leica Black Frames on M240

Thanks for the reply, Brian. Are you saying this is a known problem or not and that others have had their cameras repaired? Out again yesterday and whilst taking a rapid succession of single frame shots using single instead of the continuous mode, with ISO set to 1600, all but one of the images...

    Leica Black Frames on M240

Thanks Carl. As I understand it there's an imminent firmware update to amend the 'check battery message' from occurring, mind you imminent is a mute point. I'm monitoring the situation and keeping a handwritten log of events. Once I've updated the firmware and if it happens again, I'll be...

    Leica Black Frames on M240

Hi Brian, I actually have two batteries and alternate them. As I'm a bit 'old school' when it comes to batteries, I try to let them run down before switching - I know it's not required, but I've read that the ideal regime is 20~80%. I've switched to a fully charged battery and will monitor, but...

    Leica Black Frames on M240

On two separate occasions I've ended up with black frames being recorded on the SD card. On both occasions the shutter sounds rather feeble, i.e. not its usual reassuring self when everything is normal. Battery no less than 50% and the EXIF recorded for the blanks is consistent with the next...

Leica Stuck filter - any tips on how to remove?

That has to be one large rubber-stopper, whatever the lens, and I wasn't even thinking of the Noctilux! I get the idea though, surface contact around the whole circumference and a reasonable coefficient of friction, too. In Amin's case he mentioned a dent that could well have distorted the...

Leica Stuck filter - any tips on how to remove?

Given it's few days since posting this, how did you get on? In a similar situation, and given the filter is possibly scrap anyway, I would take a pair of regular pliers, the sort of pliers with groves on their inner blades, and apply a turning force applied between the inner and outer...

    Leica Black or Silver ?

Thanks dante, I started the thread some time ago, September last year I believe, when I had difficulty deciding and thought I'd garner inputs from the community. Anyway I purchased a black M240 in October, but thanks for your input. As an aside, I recently purchased a silver 50 lux ASPH and it...

    Leica Leica 262

Having recently purchased an M240 it makes me really pleased to understand it's composed of aging components. I thought the life cycle of the iconic Leica far exceeded cameras of Japenese origin, but there we are. I'm not upgrading, I'm more interested in building my lens collection.

    Leica 10.5 cm. nikkor

The thread title got my curiosity going, that's for sure. '105cm Nikor', thought to myself that's a l-o-n-g lens, the average person would not be able to reach the aperture control ! :) Sorry, couldn't resist. EDIT: It's almost like a quantum effect in reverse, I took my eye off the title and...

Right, sounds like FPGA territory with uncommitted gates and functional blocks to be reconfigured by typists. I was in the mindset of software running on predetermined hardware.

    Leica Leica 262

In terms of running a business, I don't think it would make sense expending engineering effort changing the processing engine, or altering the clock speed. Just a tweak or two to the firmware, and some button reassignment.

Leica Weather sealing of the M240 'system'

Thanks for replying Dante. What you say sounds quite logical and I'll exercise common sense, exposing the system (body and lens) to light rain - difficult to quantify without being technical, but the sort of rain that wouldn't make you want to dash for sudden cover - but avoid anything that...

Leica Got my M240, could do with some advice on using a RF

I can see a gradual improvement in my own focusing ability the more I use the rangefinder, plus a degree of confidence helps which comes with practice. But using a .95 would be a step too far, apart from the ticket price of course. In the case of Thorsten Overgaard, he's probably been using a...

Leica Got my M240, could do with some advice on using a RF

I like the effect of a fast lens too, but thought I'd start with a 35 f2 due to the generous DoF. It's demoralising seeing Thorsten Overgaard using the 50 f0.95 and acquiring focus, and spot on too. However when you see videos of him shooting, he seems to use an EVF a fair bit. That's cheating...

Leica Got my M240, could do with some advice on using a RF

I'm now parking the lens at infinity after each shot and focus as fast as possible thereafter, if I go a bit too far I don't play around too much, relying on medium f to compensate (medium meaning f5.6 or so). But I recognise that I need to practise like there's no tomorrow!

Leica Weather sealing of the M240 'system'

I understand the M240 camera body offers a degree of weather protection due to the design, ie rubber seals around switches etc, but I've not read any similar claims about M lenses, either in literature or on the Net. The way I look at it is this, anything with external moving parts should be...

Leica Got my M240, could do with some advice on using a RF

Based on my limited experience I have to agree; in slow time I can achieve accuracy, but this goes down the pan when I'm in a rush to acquire focus. It's one of those camera systems where there's no hiding, if you get it wrong, focus, exposure, incorrect shutter speed etc, there's no one else to...
