    Fuji Maybe another XT1?

^ That. The AF joystick alone, much less the cleaner high ISO and fast AF make it worth it for me, if I had the $.

Fuji Panning and zooms with OIS ( 50-140 )

I do this a lot with the cheaper 50-230 and kiteboarders / bikers. I notice a lag when I start panning, as the OIS offsets some of my initial sideways motion. But then I'm fine, and it helps the vertical jitters. Thus, I just make sure I start panning on them sooner than I otherwise might, get...

I think the listed height of the FZ6 was 31"... It was tippy toes on both sides, or one good planted foot. I'm 5'5" so I had to just get used to it. But those big ADV rigs, no sir.

That seat isn't stock. And it's TALLER than stock, and I'm 5'5". Will make a lot of sense when I put a sidecar on it, but til then, it's not ideal. Comfy, but too tall. No GSXR for me, not tempting. My last bike was a 2007 Yamaha FZ6, which has the motor of a 600cc crotch rocket, slightly...

5 Hours at Arches National Park

Just a way to break up a 17 hour drive into two days, we stopped for the night in Moab, Utah. The next morning (yesterday morning, as I type this), we got up at 5am and headed into the park to beat the crowds and see the sunrise. I had the XT1 with Rokinon 12, and XE3 with Fuji 35 f1.4. We were...

Regarding the 23 1.4: I had it, and wanted to love it badly, but never did. Had it for ~ 3 years, and shot it a ton. I've made good with the rokinon 12mm, 18-55, 27 pancake, 35 1.4, 56, 50-230, Minolta 55... just never got to a place where I "got" the value proposition of that big 23. Huge...

Rode it to work 2 days in a row - once to get it plated, then once to drop my daughter off at school / pick her up in the afternoon, back down to work, then home. So I've gone from 1 ride to 5 or 6. The bike is slowly shrinking, which is desperately needed. It gets a little smaller and lighter...

    Fuji First World Problem

(I've said this before but) when I had nothing but the original X100, we took a trip to Peru to hike to Machu Picchu over 5 days. I had that little 12mp Bayer sensor device right on the center of my chest as I hiked, in a tiny black case suspended on the chest compression strap between my hiking...

    Fuji First World Problem

You won't be able to do this, I don't think, because the pull is so strong to bring too much. But .... what I'd do? Sony A7Riii + 12-24FE X-Pro 2 + 35 & 56 ...And that's it. The Sony will have the resolution and dynamic range you'd benefit from in landscapes, city scenery shots. The Fuji...

Perhaps THE biggest reason we upped and moved so far away was the vastly lower number of knuckleheads out here. Deer, the occasional meth head, and stray corner gravel are my new enemies. And thank you.

In 2004, just before I got married, a beloved coworker who had heard me rambling about missing the dirt bikes of my youth got me a 1980-something Suzuki GS300L, a road bike, albeit small and weak. I knew nothing about maintenance, so it gave me maybe a year of service, then died. I moved on to a...

    Fuji Sunset Skiing

Wife decided to try and catch the sunset at our cross country ski spot, up near Mt Hood. We sorta made it - had to ski FAST to climb a hill to get a view. By then it was all burning red light on the opposite hills, nothing much left. But it was incredibly pretty. XT1 + Rokinon 12 KBRX7980 by...

Zoom or two bodies with primes?

My 2 cents, for what little it may be useful… - I thought for years that having a second body would be a LOT more valuable to me than the same $ spent on a 5th or 6th lens. That’s proven to be correct. The 2nd body stops me from changing lenses out in the wind and dirt. And dust/dirt is why...

Fuji XF 16mm f/2.8 Formally Announced

I'm sure it will be great. But it doesn't tug at me personally, because... - When I want 16ish, I have the rokinon 12 or the xf18-55, both of which are as fast or faster (and I know, they're not the SAME focal length, but it's in the ballpark) - When I want "small" I have the 27 f2.8, which...

    Concours Car Show

I did this, the one time I took my wife down to Dad's. Approaching an intersection in the cobra, taking a left, yield on green. I see a gap that I CAN make, but I need to do so .... expediently. So I give it a bit of gas and start the turn, but it's a bit much gas, and so the rear end begins to...

Dad built a cobra kit about .... 17 years ago? Maybe 20. Put a 428 in it, got things dialed in nicely over the years. He knows exaaaaactly how much throttle he can get away with before the rear breaks loose (I don't), so when he hooks it up in anger, I literally cannot inhale. All I can do is go...

Which superzoom for an African safari?

We went about 4 years ago, I think? Mostly Tanzania. Longest lens I had was 345mm equivalent (the fuji xc 50-230). Maybe we got lucky, but I don't recall wishing for something much longer. That is to say, I'd go with "a larger sensor + ~400mm reach" over "a smaller sensor and 600-1,000mm reach"...
