Software Ever wonder what goes into creating a film "filter" presets in software? Interesting article at Wired

As I have probably mentioned a couple of times already, VSCO filters were one of the reason I lusted after a Lightroom based post-processing setup back in the day. The filters look so good! Since then they dropped the LR plugins altogether and I never got myself to buy a Windows or Mac...

    Coming full circle

I started with Canon 5D Mark II but I really got enthusiastic about photography when I treated myself to a Fujifilm. Love pretty much everything about it, the system, the designs and the community. Then I escalated to Leica. Leica of course is fine, very fine but I can't help but think how it...

    Fuji Maybe another XT1?

The thing that I most disliked about X-T1 were the buttons with bad tactility. Too flush with the body or something. They improved the buttons somewhere along the path but if you're buying preowned, how to make sure you buy a good body. :S

    Fuji Maybe another XT1?

When the X-T2 came around, this noise issue was a subject of some discussions. A consensus formed, people did find X-T1 the cleanest!

Leica Q is starting to lose its magic :(

Wonderful and rich photographs christilou :) That's one thing the M is teaching me. The picture doesn't have to be perfectly in focus or otherwise technically top-notch in order to be a great picture. It was difficult for me at first... pay premium money for a lens that doesn't actually have...

Leica Q is starting to lose its magic :(

Yes, Q indeed fits a market and a need of its own. It offers you Leica-quality pictures that you can operate one-handedly. And if you like it old school, the lens has probably the best manual focus feel of any fly-by-wire lens out there. Although it's too dampened for my tastes. *If* I were to...

Leica Q is starting to lose its magic :(

Yes, the biggest part of M's appeal is the mechanical, manual, user-centric approach. And I like that the camera has indeed forced me to learn about the manual focusing and the art of exposure via center weighted average. All good skills that are of use with any modern camera out there. What...

Leica Q is starting to lose its magic :(

Right you are. As far as problems go, this is among the better ones! Outside the banding problem at pushed ISO 6400, I don't have a issue with M240's image quality I'm actually pretty content. I adapted into the "slow and considered" style of shooting very quickly so suddenly the high ISOs...

Leica Q is starting to lose its magic :(

Because the M240 and the 35 is a new toy, I've been shooting it pretty much exclusively since Dec 31. I was a bit excited to find a good opportunity to exercise the old Q muscle yesterday as I needed all the angle I could get. During the short session, Q, the camera of my life, never missed...

I thought that EVF was a perfect system to make sure you make the correct exposure. Yet after going back to OVF and the occasionally back to EVF I start to see how often it is my EVF exposure that's off by a stop and the OVF exposures are better... Hmm!

Leica Showcase Leica Summicron M 35f2.0

The rendering of the 35 V is truly what Leica is about. The 3D pop is curiously not always about sharp subject; I captured many popping items that are actually in front of the focal plane. This whole "framing with the shadow" thing looks like a cool technique. Smooth rendering! This...

Fuji Why do you like/love/hate the Fuji XPro cameras?

Quite interesting that you feel that X-Pro2 goes the most filmlike output and you've had Nikon DF to compare to! :) As for the electronics thing, yes that can be a mood killer. Especially the PEN-F is hopelessly "electronical" when you have to interact with the menu system or even some of the...

Fuji Why do you like/love/hate the Fuji XPro cameras?

I absolutely love and adore the X100 series. I also like the fact that Fuji stuffs the same sensor+processor combo on every body of its generation, meaning you don't have to be choosing between IQ and usability, just the latter. But as usual, I'm conflicted about the models. There's the...

The idea is that if you pronounce PASM as a word, it's probably close enough to how you say "bosom". :) So a person who is a "PASM buddy" is someone who prefers the indirect PASM interface of a camera as opposed to direct controls.

Regarding the diary approach that I pondered in the opening post. As romantic as it sounds it sadly sounds too unsustainable once it starts to grow in size. The lack of suitable software to manage it might be a problem. But the idea is still too romantic to abandon. I like the idea of free-form...

I suppose given Eric and I share a passion for street photography, you don't actually come up with particularly fantastic street shots that often. I do this currently but there's hundreds of directories at this point. I want to look up a particular shot I took last spring, there's still enormous wading-through to do. The rangefinder is not for everybody

Yeah whenever somebody says FF systems are large or even that M4/3 setups are the most compact, I chuckle to myself and think of Leica. I agree that if you want fast and accurate MF focusing, the rangefinder is the absolute best. If you don't need to be fast, the EVF + magnifier is just as...
