Single In Single in July (SiJy) 2022 - day 31

Earlier this year, after a few years of thinking “maybe, someday medium format", I decided to make a Fuji medium format system a reality. I expected to save for 12-18 months and go for it. Early this month Adorama had a very attractive deal on the GFX50R and I went for it. I can’t afford any...

Nothing artistic today. Just a quick snap of the thing that will be occupying all of my photographic endeavors after tomorrow. I just have to decide if I’ll be selling off the Sony kit or the micro 4/3.

I forgot about Lightroom because just don't use it on the iPad. I really dislike the idea of having to buy cloud storage from Adobe in order sync when I already have plenty of cloud storage available.

I've done almost all my photo work on a second gen iPad Pro for the last five years. It's not as seamless as Lightroom on a laptop but it's working for me. The key is Affinity Photo.

This one’s a little odd. I have an idea for a photo and this is a preliminary exploration. Kind of an early sketch. So it’s behind the scenes look at a work in progress.

We had a couple of trees taken down today. They had to be lifted over the house. Just a simple documentary photo.

Thank you! It’s just lumps of rock salt* with a lamp in the middle. I just wanted to show texture and form; light and dark. *My better half informs me it’s pink Himalayan salt. Apparently it has some kind of magical properties or something…

Sixteen days in and I’ve learned something very important. I really don’t like 2:3 frame ratio. I pretty much already knew that, but with daily shooting it’s become very annoying. I’ve shot micro 4/3 and 4/3 before that for a long time and find that ratio very easy to work with. In January I put...

Yesterday when I posted a picture of an egg I joked that today might be a potato or banana. Well here’s an homage to Andy Warhol and one of the best rock and roll albums of all time!

Yep. It’s an egg. Tomorrow, who knows. Maybe a potato. Or a banana.

Edited to add: This is much closer than the Summaron will focus on it's own. I used an adapter that has about 4mm of extension available. This is almost as close as I can get using all of the extension.

I could be happy shooting the rest of my life with a 35 and an 85-90ish. The longer lens is like home to me. Definitely my comfort zone. But the 35 is always there for when I need for in the frame. I'm very comfortable with the 35 but I'm already finding that I need to use it differently because...

I spent a large part of Sunday in the ER for my mother in law. I shot exactly one frame that day and I don't like it. I posted it anyway because not every frame I shoot is a success and that's OK.

The lens I'm using for this challenge is an old rangefinder lens that only focuses down to .7 meters. Quite often I want to go closer. One of the adapters I have has a helicoil that provides a few mm of extension allowing me get closer. I'm wondering if anyone feels that would be cheating. I've...

    Apple IOS is so frustrating!

The thing is, there’s no system level file system open to all apps. Apps handle their own files. For a few years there’s been an Apple supplied Files app. It is basically a database, which is what a file system is, that can talk to other apps and they can talk to it if they’ve been coded to use...

I’ve got this crooked Buddha out behind my house. Every time I get new equipment I end up going out there to photograph him. I’ve had is lens since the 80’s but this is the first time I’m trying it on this camera. I want to get a feel for the lens so I shot it wide open at f/2.8 and didn’t do...

    Dell

Just order one that's meant for content creators. I have one from the Latitude line at work. It's pretty powerful, has horrible battery life and literally the worst display I've ever used. We use them with a hub and multiple monitors in the office, but can take them home.

    Sorting/Culling Conundrum

I don't use it. I was waiting for the database feature to be added but now would prefer a solution that's cross compatible with iPad. I know it's a favorite among sports and news photographers specifically for sorting and picking from thousands of photos at import time.

    Sorting/Culling Conundrum

I would use a single word but I suppose 100+ words would be hard to keep track of. No matter how you approach it, it's still a lot of photos to sort out. Photo Mechanic is designed specifically for high volume. The new Photo Mechanic Plus has now added a database. If you're planning on selling...

Film Help with my B&W processing

IF it was exposed correctly then it is overdeveloped or a bad scan. Do you pay attention to your developer temp? Higher temp develops faster. Are the highlights on the film actually blocked up? If not you can change your scan settings for a better exposure.

    Sorting/Culling Conundrum

You need to cull AND sort. What I might try is a first pass to cull obvious bad ones and add a keyword that identifies the car. Later you can search by the keyword to gather all the instances of a particular car. If Darktable supports keywording.

The Elmar 50 is just too hazy for me to use. It’s interesting but I think the challenge would become more a chore than a fun activity. I’m going to follow Matt’s lead and ask for suggestions. I have an Elmar 90/4 that’s almost as old, 1937 vs. 1936. A Summaron 35/2.8 that had goggles. I took...

    Sony A7C vs. A7 iv

I'd go with the a7iv but, I'm left-eyed so the viewfinder in the left corner doesn't work well for me. My right eye is totally blocked by the camera and my nose is all over the touch screen.

Advice Wanted How big will these print?

I've been happy with printing around 200 ppi with a good clean image. Unless noise was an element of the image, then clean wasn't important ;)
