    Battle Scars

One winter a few years ago I drove to Gray's Lake National Refuge to get some sunrise photos. The refuge is not close to anything but it is just off a highway that had been plowed. Turning on to the road for the refuge I saw the landscape shot below and pulled over on the wide shoulder to get...

That vehicle was a tried, true and trusty steed. I used it for a couple more years without much problem, then sold it when it was a little over 180,000 miles. My days of driving on really sketchy roads are probably over because I look back at some moments and shudder at what could have happened.

    Battle Scars

This is mostly just cosmetic. I was camping near a trailhead in Southern Utah, planning to start hiking around sunrise. I had driven about 15 miles on a dirt road, most of which was fine for a passenger car, but there were a few washes I had to drive down into an up out that I needed the...

I'm sometimes clumsy and/or absent minded. I've also dropped my Fuji 23/1.4 and 14/2.8. I was once in the backcountry of Yellowstone at a large hot spring and my 23mm went rolling down the hill towards the spring. I made a mad dash and saved it before it went into the water.

Post the wounds you've received in pursuit of photography. It can be damage to your camera gear, yourself, your sherpa, car, bike, dirigible, pack goat... I don't know how many times I've dropped my poor Fuji 35mm f1.4. I've bent the hood pretty badly and had to use pliers to reshape it so...

I don't think we have a thread dedicated to bones. I found this skull somewhere in Southern Utah, but I don't remember which wash this was in.

What are your thoughts on Mastodon? 🐘🤔

Don't for a second entertain the idea of getting one as a pet. You would never be able to eat a meal without finding gobs of hair in your food. You would need contractor trash sacks to clean up the poops in the park when you take it for a walk. If you leave it alone for a night in your house...

Micro 4/3 So what other camera alternatives are there to the OM5?

Welcome Hazwing! I don't think that Nikon can fit your needs. The ZFc would be close in size, but it's dx and the lens lineup for that format is pretty limited. The fx lenses are awesome, but much bigger than m43 lenses.

    Nikon Nikon Z firmware updates

It's really nice that they updated some bodies that are discontinued and a few years old. I'm not sure that I need those updates for my use of my Z7, but I appreciate Nikon doing this.

GAS GAS: Please Share your Latest Acquisitions Big and Small

I'm taking my 100-400 with me and that will give me quite a bit of working room. I think that at 400mm I'd be pretty comfortable with most of the venomous snakes there, except the fer-de-lance. I want to see one, but am also anxious about an encounter.
