Gorgeous. The tone is perfect, not too much color, just right. And the shapes and shadows are stunning.

    Leica Leica X type 113

The X type 113 is a wonderful camera. I guess you either like the limited controls or you don't, but I do. It puts out files that are reasonably malleable in my opinion. Yes, you have to be careful with highlights, but I had to do that shooting kodachrome too. It's not an issue for me. Shot...

    B&W: Words/No Words

I've heard that Fuji is going to release an updated version of Acros 100 this Fall. I hope it is a good as the original. This was shot 5 years ago with my Olympus 35 SP loaded with Acros 100. Nice film. I no longer have the SP (though I may get another one), but if this new film is released...

Thanks. I like it enough that I broke down (went for broke, in other words) and got a used EVF for it. It's true that it is easier to blow out highlights with it, but that was true of the X1 sensor too. I just meter highlights with the spot and expose accordingly. It's how I used to meter slide...

Out after dinner. Lovely light, making ordinary things special.

    B&W: Words/No Words

I've been thinking about taking a film camera on my next trip, in fact a rangefinder. Since I foolishly sold my Bessa R and have nothing for my Leica screw mount lenses, my choices, unless I spend money I shouldn't, is the Hasselblad 500CM, which is too big, since I'm going to take my Pen-F and...

Went to largely neglected cemetery nearby that never fails to move me. There is something heroic about it. Despite the fact that "Time says nothing but I told you so..", its tributes to those who have been loved endure.

Yes, my black and white are all from raw files too, some with additional processing in Silver efex, some just tweaked in Photoshop. But the files I get from the 109 seem to lend themselves to very satisfying black and white. In any event, yes the camera is "punches above its weight".

Nice shot. That little D-lux 109 is a nice little shooter, and I love the black and white that can come out of it..

Walking the dog at sunset. Usually this time of day looking out at the west mesa is a definite color shot. But tonight there was less color and just more interesting light, shadow, haze. It said black and white to me, though I confess my hearing ain't what it used to be.

Out walking the dog when I saw this. I blew the whites out and only partially recovered them, but I still like the shot.

    Film Minimalist Monobath Development Workflow?

I always found loading steel reels simpler, unless the reel was bent. And the Hewes 35mm stainless are even better, get you started with two prongs instead of a clip, so you start straight. Unless the reel is bent, starting slightly crooked is usually the problem with a steel reel. I loaded...

GAS: Please Share your Latest Acquisitions Big and Small

I mentioned this on another thread, but I got a used Leica X 113 this past week. I've wanted one for some time and couldn't afford it, but found a good deal I was able to snap up. I'm more than satisfied with the files from it, and perhaps more importantly, I enjoy shooting with it. I just find...

    Leica Leica X type 113

I'm starting to think one of my purposes in life is to revive dead camera threads because, not being able to buy them new, I have to wait until the price matches my pocket book. Anyway, I got a very nice brown and silver X type 113 for $800 in very nice condition except for some light marks on...

    Olympus Stylus 1

It seems as soon as word got out that there would be no more of them, the price shot up. I used to grab them used to give as gifts to people overseas, but I can't afford to do that now.

    Olympus Stylus 1

These are great little cameras. I'm sorry Olympus decided the market doesn't warrant keeping the line going. I may take my Pen-F, my Leica X, or other cameras on a trip, but this is always in the bag. I don't like traveling with lenses that look (and weigh!) like field artillery, and this...

Still in Laos. I couple from the Plains of Jars, one from the bombed out Wat Phia wat in Muang Khoun, and a couple of window reflections of a 7/11 in Udon Thani in Thailand a couple of weeks ago during a school break when it filled up like a play-ground.

In Laos again now, visiting adopted family. Five shots taken with the very capable little Leica D-lux type 109 (Leica naming conventions are nuts), one a shot across the Ou river taken from the balcony of a primitive little place we stayed in Muang Ngoi, and the other 4 from a trip to sites 1-3...

Black & White, monotone and sepia

I've been shooting a lot of color since going digital, but my first photographic love is black and white. I discovered the Leica D-lux 109 is a superb black and white camera. I'll be off to SE Asia inn a couple of weeks, and for the first time, I am going to shoot the entire trip in black and...

Or as the mother of a friend of mine has it, "Just because someone has decided to call me doesn't mean I have to drop everything I'm doing and answer." Good point. An invitation. I like that.

    Film Minimalist Monobath Development Workflow?

There's nothing complicated about developer, stop, fix. The hard part is getting yourself a dark spot to do it, (preferably with water, but that can wait until you are out of the fix and can go light if it has to). Loading a reel is hard for some people, but in all honesty, I'd go with good...

    Your experiences with traveling light?

I considered the Sonys, but I have used them and find them fiddly. Very nice cameras, but I don't enjoy using them. I will sacrifice a little there and there for something that gives me joy to use. Since the D lux 7 I ordered had pre-release firmware, I returned it and may well get the Leica...

    Your experiences with traveling light?

The lightest kit I've traveled with is the E-M5 i with the 14-42 pancake lens, and and E-P2 for a back up body. In June, I plan on taking a D-lux 7 and, for telephoto reach outside, the capable Stylus 1s. My last several trips have been the Pen F with the 12-40 and the Stylus 1, but I need to...

Cut the apron strings today. Quit Adobe

My CC subscription is cheap enough to continue, but I have until the end of the year to decide whether to renew. Truth is I'm too lazy right now to switch to new software. After my summer trip, when things settle in the Fall, I'll give some of these a try. I'd miss Photoshop, which I've used for...

Damn! If I'd seen it a week ago, I'd probably have jumped on it. As it is, I bought an open box, sample D-Lux 7 for $950. I miss the RX-1 I sold. Are you sure you want to get rid of it??

    Abandoned Cameras

I've gone back and forth deciding between Fuji and Olympus. I loved the optical hybrid finder in the X-Pro, but finally, because of my investment in m43, I stayed with it. If my Pen-F bit the dust, I might well migrate to Fuji; I do love an optical VF, and the new electronic RF makes the Fujis...

    Abandoned Cameras

It appears Olympus is set to abandon the Pen-F line after one shot. It's my main shooter except when I need weather sealing, when I use my 1st generation E-M5. Olympus also gave up on the Stylus-1/1s shooters, a camera I've loved since the first moment I shot with it. Maybe the small sensor did...

I took to progressives easily many years ago, although going down steps was weird for a day or two. The last time I had any trouble with glasses I had been written a bad Rx (because my insurance paid for the visit). Once I went back to my regular optometrist everything was golden. I hope you...

    Chrome has gone dead

My go-to browsers are Opera and Vivaldi. Been using Opera for years, when it had stuff other browser didn't. Now I'm just comfortable with it. And definitely duck duck go. Opera has a built in VPN that you can switch on and choose the general world location of the server. I don't use it much...

    Leica Leica Q2 - Released March 7, 2019

I don't at all hate anything about the camera, and would love to have one, but, yes, I can make 6 round trips to S.E. Asia for what I'd have to pay. If I could have the camera and the trips, that would be great, but I can't, so I'll take the trips. A decision that has nothing to do with hating...

Olympus to exit, or at least scale back, from the digital camera market?

I have a Pen-F, an EM-5, and a Stylus 1s, so I hope this isn't true. I still have a bitter taste from the abandonment of the OM system many years that left a lot of us hanging, though God knows there was plenty of used stuff to keep one going. Maybe I'll take the plunge and just go with Fuji...

Leica Is anybody else out there wanting an M10?

I still wish another digital rangefinder would come out (not rangefinder style). The Epson RD-1 is too old for me to justify paying $1000 for a used one. Right now if you want to shoot a real rangefinder that is digital, it's Leica or nothing, and I can afford neither the bodies nor the glass...

Is it really a new work if all you do is apply different processing?

He just put the original into black and white and employed a contrast mask over everything except the kids. That's changing the photo processing, not re-creating. If photographers in the digital age are going to have any kind of rights to their work this has to be viewed as a clear-cut case of...
