Photo books - post photo books or any other photography-related books you've just bought.

Found this one for a 'decent' price online last week, used: I wasn't expecting much, in fact I expected a thin-ish book with a few photos in it, some commentary by Jeff himself, that's all. But nevertheless, I really wanted to see his Widelux panorama shots. It arrived very quickly and is...

Why we should pay for Flickr.

This year is my 10th anniversary is a Flickr member. I've been a Pro member for so long that I qualified for the grandfather clause of having unlimited uploads with my Pro membership. 10 years ago I was just getting into photography and I was enthusiastic. I shared my photos here in this...

This would certainly be a personal milestone. There is a business sense to it too but it's 80% a personal milestone. I currently have a decently paid day job that I am happy to stay in, and in fact it is because I am in a stable job that I feel that I am able to pursue this personal milestone...

Thanks Jock! Time: I will be pursuing this part time while working full time. I did the same thing previously when I completed my LLM/JD part time while working full time so I am prepared (somewhat) for what I'm getting myself into. Because this is a pure research degree, the only...

Thanks! I've just placed an order for the book based on your recommendation. I should add that when I worked as an academic in the medical research field, I worked very closely with PhD students and their professors so I am very familiar with the academic 'system' which includes all the good...

Several reasons: 1. Yes teaching is one aspect of it. It would be great if I could teach (I quite enjoy it) and also be able to indulge in photography and filmmaking as part of my day job. 2. My research proposal is far too big to fit within the scope of an MFA and the university knows...

My alma mater accepted my application into their Master of Fine Arts program. They sent me the email a couple of weeks ago and I accepted the offer immediately. It'll involve a research thesis and also a major practice-based component, culminating in an exhibition that will incorporate both...

I would have thought that there would be privacy and confidentiality concerns though. For eg., if you were, you know, buying a sex toy or something. Not that I've ever bought a sex toy or anything like that....

David Burnett shooting the impeachment hearing with 4x5

As I understand it, battery life is still lacking in the current cameras but these cameras are powerful and ttherefore power-hungry, so I am not surprised. This is why I have said several times - I'd much rather have improvement in power technology than more peripheral features in each release.

Same. Or a Hasselblad H4D/H5D with an 80mm f/2.8. Or a Hasselblad Xpan II. Or a Blackmagic Cinema Pocket 6K with a couple of lenses.

Smack in the middle. $6k... ahhhh too much for a camera that isn't going to be my main camera. Such a beautiful camera though.

Dammit, no pricing provided under 'pricing' on the website. All I wanted to know was a ballpark - are we talking $10k per unit or $2k?

"... so it's just normal for my age?"

We can form a gang if enough of us liberate ourselves of complex fashion decisions and wear reductive clothes like plain black shirts. And then we can make our way back to Coney Island together. Warriors unite!! Can you dig it!!

"... so it's just normal for my age?"

A couple of years ago I gave up having to make complex fashion decisions on a daily basis. So over a period of 6 months or so, every time we went to the mall I'd drop by Kmart and buy their plain black t-shirt for $5 each. I'd grab maybe 2 of these shirts every time we were at that mall. I...

A Hypothetical question on Filosofical Friday

Prob not. I want the tactile and full manual control of an aperture ring, a shutter dial, and the shutter release. I have the latest-ish android phone and the camera function feels sluggish, I'm always fumbling the controls on the touch screen. I don't want to have to swipe to get to the...

Can anyone explain why my photo became popular on Flickr?

I suppose to be more positive, we could look further ahead to the festive Christmas season then, where there's snow, jingling bells, Santa Claus, presents ... ghosts of christmas past ... regrets for things said and done in the past year ... Michael Buble ..... :(:(:(

Can anyone explain why my photo became popular on Flickr?

I suppose if it's near Thanksgiving, the photo will look more like annoying relatives rising from their holes in the ground to come annoy people like they do every year.

Can anyone explain why my photo became popular on Flickr?

Same thing happened to a mediocre photo I took during the morning commute a couple of years ago. I even added a comment under that photo asking what the hell happened.

How to deal with people telling you what you should be taking pictures of or other unsolicited advice?

I was in the middle of a photography gig a few years ago. I was busy shooting the event when a guy came up to me and asked if he could borrow my camera to take some photos of his own. In my best "bro" voice ("naw I can't do that, bro.."), I politely explained I was hired by the client to...

Fiona Lark's self-portaiture blow me away.

Ken Rockwell should include camera rolling speed in his reviews. It's an important factor in camera useability. I'd like to see how a Hasselblad H6D rates on the rolling factor scale.

Fiona Lark's self-portaiture blow me away.

Sean Tucker produces his videos with high production values, they're very well done. And his photography is, without a doubt, very well done also. Fiona Lark I never knew about until this video. Her work is just amazing, especially when you realise that she hadn't done it for that long. She...

    Me and PD.

That answered my question to the T. I was wondering whether you'd been dealing with it since before PD or because of it. People didn't understand depression back then. The community at large still don't understand it today but at least they don't put people through what they put you through...

  38. TraamisVOS

    Me and PD.

Not always. I could probably point you to a number of news articles in the past week where there was simply no good news to accompany the horrifically bad news they've just come out of. Sometimes life just really, really sucks, full stop.

PD is so slow, it takes you little by little each day over a long period of time. I used to work with Alzheimers cases, it's rough for the patient and the loved ones.
