Leica Long story and a question re lens selection in the menu.

Light meter sometimes gets it right but generally is still over-exposing by one or two stops.

Switched lens coding off, and also tried it on auto. That vignetting is back with a vengeance.

Leica Long story and a question re lens selection in the menu.

There's two issues - the vignetting issue, hence I am compensating for it by setting it to the 28mm lens profile. And there's the over-exposure issue.

Leica Long story and a question re lens selection in the menu.

I could but I only thought about the lens setting possibility right now, and I really don't want to unpack that finely packed box because I put a lot of effort into packing it in the first place. I probably will have to unpack it and try it out this weekend but I wanted to see what people's...

In that case, I 'm out of ideas what might be causing the light meter problem.

Leica Long story and a question re lens selection in the menu.

I mentioned previously that I'm sending my M10 for a warranty claim to adjust the light meter - it seems to be overexposing by about 1-2 stops. I've had this camera for over a year, and during the early months I was also messing about with a Black Pro-Mist filter. I noticed from the...

    Leica 50mm woes

Speaking of which, I'm sending in my M10 because the light meter seems to be over-exposing by two stops. Luckily I'm still under warranty.

I don't suppose your M10 is still under warranty? I've never had my M10 (or any Leica) lock up like that.

Tripod schmipod. Also, I use Leicas but never encountered the problem because I take a lot of photos of moving subjects, so I'm continually focusing on the fly, but very seldom adjusting f/stop on the fly.
  13. TraamisVOS

    Leica 50mm woes

I honestly don't get it. It seems that if I was using the Sonnar, I wouldn't ever experience this problem because I very seldom play around with the f/stop on the fly, is that right?
  14. TraamisVOS

    Leica 50mm woes

I don't think I've ever had this problem. I never I usually pick an f/stop suitable for the lighting and/or requirements of the circumstances, and then I generally stick with it. How are all of you doing your photography where this is a problem?
  15. TraamisVOS

    Leica 50mm woes

I just looked it up - so the focus will shift if you've focused under one f/stop, and then readjusted the f/stop?

I bought an Xpan, promised myself I'd sell my M9P. I've been putting it off. :(

    Leica 50mm woes

It comes from the factory calibrated at f/2.8. I never understood why, because f/1.5 is where it needs to be accurate with all that shallow depth of field. The more you stop the lens down, the deeper the dof, the more latitude you have to get things in focus.

Have you checked out the old Canon 50mm LTM f/1.4?
  21. TraamisVOS

    Leica 7Artisans 75mm F1.25, shipping next month.

    If they released a 90mm f/1.4 or a 120mm f/1.4, I'd jump on those in a heartbeat.

Leica What is the provenance of this "Sonnar" (Leica-Sonnar 58mm)

I'm far from being an expert on this. But my layman's perspective tells me that "sonnar" is a Zeiss term, not Leica. Also the zone-focusing numbers and the graphics(?) on the lens looks ... 'fake'. I don't know why it looks fake, but to me it does. Also, the metal chrome doesn't look genuine...

    Leica 50mm woes

I vote very strongly for the Voigtlander 50mm f/1.2 because of the quality + price. Also a vote for any of the Zeiss lenses, and of course any of the Leica lenses. I also have the Canon 50mm f/1.4 LTM, it's almost a perfect lens for the price and quality BUT it does produce some strong crazy...

  28. TraamisVOS

Leica New Leica M-E (Typ 240)

You know what, fine wine isn't the right analogy. Ok, an iPhone. It's like buying an iPhone but only using it for its camera, nothing else. There's other stuff that it does too, really well.

Leica New Leica M-E (Typ 240)

Using the LV is fine. I have some R lenses which I occasionally use with an EVF. But if the LV is a dominating element of your needs, then the M probably isn't the right camera. It's like buying a really expensive 500 year old fine wine and using it to cook your Tuesday night pasta. I...

Leica New Leica M-E (Typ 240)

Ain't that the truth. For me it was Steve Huff ten years ago. He got me good on this Leica thing. I don't really see the "slight" lack of pixel-peeping accuracy in framing to be a big deal. Yes it's not pixel-to-pixel accurate but it's well and truly close enough. I know that if the...

Leica New Leica M-E (Typ 240)

I just realised that that the photo specs are showing up under each photo. The ISO and shutter speeds are accurate, but ignore the f/stops, they're wildly inaccurate. I use Voigtlander lenses on my Leicas and they don't communicate the correct aperture readings.

Leica New Leica M-E (Typ 240)

Ahhhh don't let the M8's ISO performance put you off too much. I took that shot above with an M8.2. Here are some other shots I took with my M8.2 in the middle of the night, handheld:

Leica New Leica M-E (Typ 240)

IS is less of an issue in RF by a long mile. I would shoot at the extreme slower shutter speeds, handheld. This was intentionally shot handheld at 1/8 because I wanted to get that exact effect of people walking past in a blur. Get an M and try it for yourself. Don't analyse it too much...

Leica New Leica M-E (Typ 240)

I get the impression that the young and hip street photographers these days are being young and hipping on to the Ricoh GR compacts or the Fujifilm X100 cameras. Especially the GR III with its AF and snap focus functions.
  38. TraamisVOS

Leica New Leica M-E (Typ 240)

It felt really weird to be able to take a photo with one hand, and holding it willy nilly away from your eye. It didn't feel like I was taking a photo anymore.

Leica New Leica M-E (Typ 240)

I still can't believe the number of times I've seen people insist they own a rangefinder via their XPro or X100 cameras, and that they are equivalent substitutes for Leicas. They clearly don't even know what rangefinder means, they've never used one, and they're basing everything on Leica's...
  41. TraamisVOS

Leica New Leica M-E (Typ 240)

I agree with what Moonmind said above. And I repeat what I said earlier about the initial surge in sales but also the eventual loss of interest when people realise they'd rather have AF, zoom, and all the other auto functions that you won't get on a rangefinder.
  42. TraamisVOS

Leica New Leica M-E (Typ 240)

I don't get it though - RF focusing is exactly the same irrespective of what lens you have on it. As long as your camera and lens are calibrated, just ensure that the focusing patch lines up, it'll be in focus every single time. It's far, far easier to focus with a f/0.95 lens via RF focusing...

Leica is doing fantastic but for a completely different demographic and for completely different reasons.
  44. TraamisVOS

Leica New Leica M-E (Typ 240)

If you're using it via the live view and the other bells and whistles, it wouldn't be a rangefinder anymore, notwithstanding that it still wouldn't have autofocus or zooms. It's easier to just buy a Fujifilm or DSLR by that stage.
  45. TraamisVOS

Leica New Leica M-E (Typ 240)

I'd be interested to see how popular rangefinders would be if the prices came down. I'm sure there would be the initial surge in sales, but I also think that it will come down again when the majority of people realise they prefer something easier to use with zooms and autofocus and...

Leica New Leica M-E (Typ 240)

I have The M8 is reasonably workable in low light, I find that it's a combination of knowing the limits of the camera plus a bit of post-processing. With the M240, I kinda feel that ISO 1200 is the highest I'd go, with 1600 is the extreme fallback plan. I'm happy with ISO3200 on the M10...

Leica Advise, opinions... Which lenses to take to Tokyo?

I am a 50mm photographer through and through. In my every day photography I don't see very well in 35mm or wider, I am very happy with my 50mm for almost everything. A year ago I went to Japan for the first time for a whole month, I spent 2 weeks in Tokyo, at least one week in Nagano, and...
