    Landscapes with Canon G9

I bought lens adapter tubes with almost every A series Canon PowerShot I had (A95, A620, A640, A590 IS, A 720 IS) and the G9 and used them with polarising filters on many occasions for water and sky shots. My old film era linear polariser works perfectly on a Canon A590 IS! What a pity Canon or...

    Landscapes with Canon G9

Thanks again for your kind comments. A polarising filter makes a huge difference to outdoor shoots, particularly landscapes and I would hesitate to do a serious outdoor shoot (with a compact) without a polariser. In fact, I have not come across too many discussions on the internet about using a...

    Landscapes with Canon G9

Hello again, friends. I've not been active here for sometime; not active as a photographer actually owing to work demands. Last week, when I went out on a birding outing (main agenda) to Sambhar lake (Rajasthan, India) with some friends, I took my Canon PowerShot G9 along. We were lucky to...

    Canon Canon Powershot S100 Announced

I like the S100 a lot and am waiting for sample images (RAW) to turn up! With the G series facing stiff competition from the mirrorless segment in terms of both (physical) size and price, I wouldn't be surprised if the S100 becomes the Canon flagship compact for now, this (physical) size has...

    Fuji X10 Premium Compact Announced

For many years I've dreamt of owing a camera like this and can't believe someone actually made it! Hats off to Fuji for taking the bold step. And using Ken Rockwell's lingo, suddenly many compact cameras have started looking 'dinky' by comparison; this looks like a real photographers tool!

Web site Builder software for Mac

I'd highly recommend WordPress as well, the TwentyTen theme is very powerful and using the 'pages' functionality one can build very capable websites. Another great thing about WordPress is that it works on the server and is therefore OS independent. It requires a learning curve which is totally...

    Sensor Size Doesn’t Matter

Dan, an interesting point of view, I agree with it entirely. In fact, if we focus more on the image and less on the camera (or technical specs for that matter), small sensor (pocket-able) compacts become fantastic picture making tools!

Seeking advice on a compact for concerts

I would recommend Canon PowerShot SX130 IS (costs about $240), it'll help you zoom closer to the performers and also shoot HD video with a very sharp and quiet, image stabilized lens that also zooms (optically) in video mode. Here's the trick: set the resolution to 'M1' (6 megapixel), shoot in...

    Collecting Digital Compacts

Lovely writeup, Dan, thoroughly enjoyed going through it, thank you very much! I shot...

    A Wish for Simplicity

I agree, I too find most current cameras too complicated for my liking. In fact while I have my sights firmly focused on the new Nikon D5100 DSLR, its complicated button arrangement is something I have not been able to digest! Last year I purchased a Canon PowerShot A495 and enjoy shooting...
