    Leica Showcase Leica M240

Two exposures merged because of camera malfunction? Strange. I know the CCD's used in the older cameras are made of two chips. I'm not sure about the M240 CMOS sensor. If the exposure is a result of a misfire- could be the "non-uniformity correction" is off?

    Leica Showcase 7Artisans 75mm F1.25

Jan 1, 2020. How did that happen? Time goes by Fast. So I took 3 fast lenses to the skating rink today. This is good practice for focusing a Rangefinder. I use a 1.25x finder, all shots wide-open.

Leica Showcase Canon 50/1.2 in Leica Thread Mount

We went to the Skating Rink today, I brought the Canon 50/1.2, 7Artisans 50/1.1, and 7Artisans 75/1.25. I stopped the 7Artisans 50/1.1 down to F1.2... My general impression: performance on the clean-glass 62 year old Canon lens is very good- perfectly usable wide-open. This and the 7Artisans...

Leica Showcase Canon 50/1.2 in Leica Thread Mount

These arw wide-open, F1.2- also with the hood. No vignetting on the hood. This was a $10 hood, opposed to the $100+ that the original hoods often sell for.

Two pictures of the lens, correct filter, and home-made hacked lens hood. I used an Olympus clamp-on hood for the 35~70 zoom, and an inexpensive 58mm vented hood- took the rubber hood off the Olympus clamp-on ring, and used JB Weld to put the vented hood on. 24 hours to cure, it is solid.

Leica Showcase Canon 50/1.2 in Leica Thread Mount

All wide-open at F1.2. Straight exports to JPEG using all LR6 defaults. Merry Christmas! Well, Santa was good to me- and to Nikki. And I got to use my Christmas present to take pictures of Nikki opening hers. As this is a "showcase" thread- This Canon 50/1.2 is free of the usual damage to the...

Leica Showcase Canon 50/1.2 in Leica Thread Mount

These are all wide-open, "this is just a test". This lens is over-corrected for spherical aberration, which "spreads out" the depth of field. At F1.2, this is an advantage. The 7Artisans 50/1.1 uses the same trick. The 7Artisans 50/1.1 is the lens to compare this one with. Both are about the...

Leica Showcase Canon 50/1.2 in Leica Thread Mount

I just received my third Canon 50/1.2 on a Canon V-T Deluxe. My Christmas present to myself- Camera, Lens, and me- all made in 1957. This Canon 50/1.2 has near-perfect glass. That is rare, both of the lenses I had before had damage to the surface just behind the aperture blades. Canon may have...

    Leica Showcase Canon 50mm F2.2

Splashes of color- wide-open, Overall impression of this lens- center sharp even wide-open. Noticeable vignetting at F2.2, gone by F4. Much sharper overall at F4- like most lenses of the day. Some "swirlies", typical of Planar type lenses. But the Bokeh on this lens is very smooth. Most 50mm...

    Leica Showcase Canon 50mm F2.2

I've seen a number of lenses hacked into Leica mount coming out of China for a lot of money. I figured there was high interest in older lenses there. Lenses that used to be considered "junk", such as the Wollensak 51mm F1.5 Raptar go for more than Summarit 50/1.5's. I'm surprised that more shops...

    Leica Showcase Canon 50mm F2.2

This lens was billed as an "Economy lens". The 50/2.2 is a 5 element in 4 group lens, a 1-2-1-1 layout. The rear doublet of a traditional double Gauss 1-2-2-1 layout was combined to an element of higher power. In 1961 it was 40% less cost than the 50/1.8 (6 elements in 4 groups) and 25% less...

    Leica Showcase Canon 50mm F2.2

This is a rare lens, made from 1/1961 to 6/1961 and sold only in Japan. According to Peter Kitchingman's authoritative book, serial numbers ran from 10000 to 13381. This is the 89th lens produced, and is in beautiful condition. Glass is near perfect, focus is smooth, and there is no play in the...

    Leica Showcase 7Artisans 75mm F1.25

Nikki went skating today, one of my favorite places to try out a fast lens. Leica M9, 75mm F1.25, all wide-open. 1.25x finder used. This lens is sharp enough, and handles well. The DOF at F1.25 is wafer thin. But- with some practice, this would be a great lens for indoor sports.

Leica Showcase Canon 50mm F1.8, later Black version.

The Black 50/1.8 is about 2/3 the weight of the chrome lens. It's a bit smaller as well. This lens would be perfect on the Leica CL film camera. I'll have to try that.

It finally got sunny- took a walk in the neighborhood with the Canon 50/1.8 on the M9. All wide-open, last one is pointed into the Sun.

Leica Showcase Canon 50mm F1.8, later Black version.

I'd like to see a showcase thread posted for that lens- I see from the thread in "Manual lenses" that you are on a Biotar kick! For the Canon 50/1.8, I learned that the early black lenses have 13 aperture blades, went to 11 blades, then 8 blades. Mine has 11 blades.

Leica Showcase Canon 50mm F1.8, later Black version.

Now I know why this lens is claimed to be the sharpest of the Canon 50's in Leica Mount. It is. The 50mm F1.8 Serenar was introduced in 1951, replaced the 50mm F1.9 Serenar. The 50/1.8 Serenar is much sharper than the older F1.9. The Black version is a new lens, even though it retains the same...

    Leica Showcase 7Artisans 75mm F1.25

This lens is a bargain at under $500. I find it to have plenty of contrast, sharpness, and light-gathering power. If you are using it with the rangefinder, as I do on the M9, calibrating the cam to the specific camera is going to be necessary. This is easy to do- takes a little time and a couple...

    Leica Showcase 7Artisans 75mm F1.25

We went up to Skyline Caverns in Front Royal, VA today. A cold/cloudy day is a great time to get a tour of the caverns- it stays about 50F all year round. I took the 7Artisans 75mm F1.25 with me, on the M9.

    Leica Showcase 7Artisans 75mm F1.25

This lens is sharp enough wide-open across range. Getting it calibrated perfectly for your camera will take a couple of tries: but it is worth the effort. $450 for this lens is 1/2 the price of the Voigtlander 75/1.5, and less than the price of the 75/1.8 used. It's less than the Tax in Virginia...

I made it to the Marine Museum at Quantico today, shot with the 75/1.25 on the M9 and Canon 85/1.5 on the M Monochrom. I have the focus of this 7Artisans 75mm F1.25 spot-on with the M9. Some very careful tuning for the M9: looks good from 0.8m to infinity. This lens pushes my ability to focus. After a lot of re-assurance using the display after several shots, I'm leaving it set for the M9. I'm also noting the lens does much better at F1.4, sharpens up and has more contrast than...

    Leica Showcase JUPITER-11 f-4 - 135mm on Leica M9

The mirrorless full-frame cameras have made incredible advances, some days I'm tempted to get one just for the "dead-end mount" lenses that I have. Konica, Canon FD/FL, M42, Minolta MD/MC, etc. These lenses used to be "dirt-cheap"- have seen revived prices with mirrorless cameras. But for...

    Leica Showcase JUPITER-11 f-4 - 135mm on Leica M9

For $25 BIN on Ebay, could not resist this 1954 Jupiter-11. This one most likely has German glass in it. Condition is much better than described. It had been calibrated for Leica- but the aperture ring was not re-indexed, so is off 180degrees. I can fix that. All wide-open, a partially cloudy day.

Leica Showcase Minolta Chiyoko 13.5cm F4, Leica mount

This is an obscure lens, very little written about it. The 4-digit "3xxx" serial number puts it around 1948. Hard to tell production numbers, but probably a couple of thousand. More than the Nikkor 13.5cm F4, many less than the Canon 135 F4. One of the best resources for Minolta Chiyoko lenses...

Next up will be this lens on the M Monochrom. I ended up calibrating it for the M Monochrom with an Orange filter. I marked the original position. The Canon lens often comes up for much less than $2000, with some patience you can get it for much less. The availability of the new 7artisans and 75/1.5 Nokton will drive the price of other lenses in this range down. I've seen several on Ebay in the last year under $650. I had a lot of...

There are several fast short-telephoto lenses for Leica, going back the the 8.5cm F1.5 Summarex. Nikon made the 8.5cm F1.5 Nikkor in Leica mount in the 1950s, and Canon made the 85/1.5 Leica mount lens into the 1960s. https://cameraderie.org/threads/canon-85mm-f1-5-super-speed-telephoto.39291/...

Yes, that is correct- the tool is included. There is a video on the procedure. The focus is perfect across range on my M9.
