GAS GAS: Please Share your Latest Desires Big and Small

The original LX100 was a camera I thought I’d love, but never did. I liked many of its features, but the slow startup time, the power zoom and the dust sucking nature of the latter killed my pleasure in using it. Now with the GRIIIx I have no zoom and a fast startup time. The dust sucking is...

I traded in my Olympus E-M1 mark III with a few bigger lenses today. As much as I like MFT, the bigger MFT system never really gelled with me. And I don’t seem to shoot long lenses much, where there can be a real size benefit. I can’t remember the last time I shot with the 40-150 f2.8. I did...

So this happened. I’ve traded in my larger MFT system (EM1 III and assorted lenses) for an even larger system. Keeping the Pen-F and GX9, since that’s where MFT still shines for me.

That’s the issue: of all the Z’s, the Zf is the only one that apparently doesn’t park the sensor when turned off. Someone on the Z mount forum at DPreview quoted a message by an employee of Nikon Australia (the official line is to have it serviced when a blower doesn’t help enough), that if you...

My problem with the LX100 was that it was a dust magnet. The retractable lens sucked in dust, just like it does with the GRIIIx. Both cameras were sent in for service, Ricoh did it without a complaint, while Panasonic stated that this wasn’t covered by the guarantee. Legally this might be true...

I have a bag or two (or three) for every occasion. That doesn’t keep me from looking for the better bag…. Hopefully going to China this year gives me an excuse to look for a dual body (Z fc (in possession) and Zf (about to order) and quadruple lens (18-140, 24-120, 28, 40) lens bag. The Wandrd...

Actually, I bought two grips for a camera I don’t own. Ran into good deals on both the GR1 from Japan and and the Smallrig locally. If by the end of the month there isn’t a deal on the Zf I’m afraid I’m going to have to pay full price. How else do I get to use those wonderful toys?

I bought a spare battery, a charger and a grip for the Nikon Zf. Not that I own that camera…. yet. Using the accessory sale until May 7 on the Nikon website. Now waiting for a deal on the Zf. Patience, young grasshopper.

Jens, thanks for sharing. I use the BYOB 9 inside my EDC backpack. I even have the accompanying foldable PacLite bag. Just curious: your most fun DSLR to shoot?

I’ve had only two: the Olympus E-1 and the Olympus E-3. I now only have one: the Olympus E-1. Just completed my fast prime setup for the E-M1mkIII. I already had the 25 1.2 for a few years, but got the Panasonic Leica 42.5 1.2 and 12 1.4 second hand in good condition and for a good price. I was always curious about those, but found them a bit expensive new.

Congrats, It’s a great lens. I’ve used it on my E-1 on safari with the EC14. in the end: I didn’t take it. I had my E-M1III with 12-40 in a bag on the handlebars and the GRIIIx in my pocket. But I regularly use the G5X mk II. Funny that you’d say that. I have both the GX9 and Pen F. The Pen F makes a great set with the metal premium lenses (12, 17, 75), with the plastic (alas…) 45 in the mix. Strange thing: I bought the GX9 as a camera to use the 20 on. That lens has decent behavior on Panasonic cameras but is too sluggish to my taste on Olympus cameras. Next I bought the PL15 to use on the GX9 (in a multi lens setup with the PL25 I have had since ages and a P42.5 I wanted to try...

As you can see in the April 2020 Challenge, it has arrived. On my v1 I had a cheap form fitting L-plate of which I left the bottom part always attached, offering a resting place for my right pink. The cheap version for the mark III was not very form fitting and wobbly. So RRS to the rescue...

I have the 17 1.8 as well. I do like it, especially on the Pen-F (my main body). Even when it renders a bit more clinically than the 2.8, it's still not overly sharp. I also have the 15, which is a nice lens on the GX9. But still, I almost always grab the 20. I guess normal is more my thing than...

In my experience, the 20 1.7 behaves much better on Panasonic bodies than on Olympus ones.
