    Show "Remarkable Car(s)"

I arrived at a Father's Day car show at a shopping centre car park just in time for the rain to set in and the cars to leave! With my waterproof camera in hand, I took this shot of a Ford Zephyr and a Murray Magpie. Yes, those are raindrops!

    Scenic Show: Clouds

That's a proper Franklin Booth (classic ink illustrator) kind of cloud! I've been trying to draw clouds like his, but I don't think we get them in my part of the world.

My Visual Diary: turning my photos into art

When I began this drawing, working the sky first, it looked for all the world (ha!) like a map. Now that I've drawn the land, it's more grounded (double ha!) in reality. I took the reference photo in 2013 out the window of the car with my little Olympus XZ-1 premium compact camera, using the...

My Visual Diary: turning my photos into art

Two more in the Illustrated Northanger Abbey: 1 is a detail from an historic woolshed taken over a decade ago, selected to make use of the chapter heading; 2 was from a shot on the road in New South Wales earlier this year.

    Small sensor challenge

Same boardwalk as previous photo, taken at the beginning and facing opposite direction. I keep looking at this photo with some amazement, as it was taken with a not-especially great small sensor! Post processed from JPEG in Snapseed.

My Visual Diary: turning my photos into art

Not my reference photo, but I specifically wanted something for a 60th birthday card, so a 1964 VW seemed to fit the quest.

Random Musing - The Nikon DL Series

@gryphon1911 at the time, I recall being very excited about the anticipated release of that series. I found this thread when I came to see what was on the forum about the P7800, having been interested in what that can do. I was sure you'd reviewed it, but didn't find one here...

My Visual Diary: turning my photos into art

It seems that I like drawing over the text in a classic novel much more than on pristine paper! Here's this week's efforts. This was the first time using colour (Derwent Inktense pencils) in the Illustrated Northanger Abbey, and for once I'm glad I did it! Here it is, uncoloured. I've...

Fuji From 2011 - I bring to you my first outing with the Fujifilm X-S1

I've always been curious about this camera, sharing a sensor with the X10 which I did love, so I'm very happy to see you giving it a review here 👌

Animals "Wild animals in the wild"

On an outing via a southern village we saw a creature up ahead, walking oddly across the road. It took a moment to recognise it as a koala - creatures of the treetops, which look very out-of-place on the ground. He headed past the houses, heading for the taller gumtrees; reaching the nearest, he...

    Sports Harrow Vinduro 2024

You may notice that some riders cross via trailers towed by 4-wheelers - a necessary service provided, as all bikes in the event are pre-1988, and often break down!

    Sports Harrow Vinduro 2024

The Harrow Vinduro was held last weekend, drawing over 200 entrants from around southern Australia. Dry winter conditions made for freezing nights and sunny days, and the traditionally challenging water crossing finale was handled with ease, compared with previous years. I didn't have as much...

My Visual Diary: turning my photos into art

Thanks Richard. I've avoided drawing for many years, because photography is much quicker! Now that I'm finally drawing regularly, I've discovered that it's easier - but also just as challenging! - than I expected, with willingness to risk it going wrong. Yesterday I sat down to try drawing in...

My Visual Diary: turning my photos into art

A few more from the completely irrelevant Illustrated Northanger Abbey: 1. Butlers Beach, South Australia, reference photo taken in 2022. 2. The Star Hotel in Walhalla, Victoria, visited this year. 3. My ginger tabby, from phone photo. All drawn with Pilot Desk Pen and Platinum Carbon Ink.

Oops, I did it again, I took it too far, Got lost in the game... The problem with art is knowing when "that'll do". I wish I'd stopped after adding colour to the camera, and not painted the leaves. Ho hum. Anyway, this is the first of what I hope will be a series of "cameras I have owned"...

GAS GAS: Please Share your Latest Acquisitions Big and Small

Documentary This or That? Help me choose gear for a car show

Some nice cars there, John. I love my PL12-60, but feel like going for something different. Actually, I was hoping the TG-870 I just bought online would have arrived, and I'd have gone with that for fun. That starts at 21mm wide, hence considering the UWA option.

That'll work fine for this event as the vehicles will all be parked, not cruising. Also, I don't use CAF, just keep pulsing the shutter instead.
