What books are you reading for pleasure these days?

I got this one a while back and enjoy the art of Joey L(awrence). I am currently set to read The Paranoid Style in American Politics by Hofstadter, one of the few historians of American History who knew how to write. Most are just plain awful.

What books are you reading for pleasure these days?

Our Civil War general, William Tecumseh Sherman, is famous for coining the phrase, "War is Hell." I did three years active service and, gratefully, never heard a shot fired in anger. Fellows I served with who had seen action in WW II or Korea were just grateful to have survived. During the...

What books are you reading for pleasure these days?

I would like to point out that while the US did not actively participate in WW II until after 7 December 1941 it was a passive participant. The US contributed much through Lend-Lease in armament, ships and supplies. The US is plagued by a naive nativist belief that it is "Fortress America" and...

Leica A little Pixii Dust sprinkled on the Leica Forum

You have probably all heard that Pixii is making a 24+MP sensor full frame now. I am due for an update in September. Upgrade, shipping, etc., all paid for. David Barth at PIxii did an extensive interview about Pixii on YT with Happy Snappin': and JL Willams did a vid on the Max, too...

    How's weather at your place?

We have beaten 80F here for a few days running. Very rare. I am on the Columbia River and can see the Pacific from my porch. These are thermal flywheels but they could not keep it under 80. It would have been worse without them. Sunlight is so rare that some locals thought the city had left...

Further thoughts on PIxii. I am guessing that they may assemble parts but do not manufacture parts. This would be similar to Polaroid. They were marketing and R&D. I seem to remember that Timex made some of their cameras. Polaroid just cooked up and implemented the great ideas. This may be...

Pixii is perplexing. It cranks out a nice image, a little goosed up but not enough to annoy. Usually it is not a problem. And I have to test the color profiles and find one that reminds me of Agfachrome which I preferred over Kodachrome. The color it does produce is closest to the X2D. And...

What you say is absolutely true. I have some old Leicas which offer up fine images with some good glass hung on them. But that X2D really shows what a good image is. The color and subtle gradations are noticeable and enjoyable. It can make a good picture better. But it cannot make a bad...
