    Micro 4/3 The Fisheye Question

Itā€™s not in the same optical class as the other lenses mentioned, but the very inexpensive BCL-0980 isnā€™t terrible, and the ā€œcheapā€ plastic construction let me insert a cardboard shim to allow focusing to about 10cm. Maybe not quite the look you want, but hereā€™s an (iso 12800, so only useful...

    Micro 4/3 Olympus E-PM2

Great place, mid Sept through end of October are my favorites times, followed by March. The state park doesnā€™t allow dogs, so we go to the federal campground with our dog until she ages out. The ponies just walk through the campground freely, ignoring us, other than mares with foals who would...

Micro 4/3 Advice on really portable M43 for street and travel shots

Iā€™m late to this thread, but I think youā€™ve made a great choice and hope you are enjoying the m5.3 . I have both a pm2 and an m5.3, and I love them both, but if I had to choose only one, the m5.3 is a better camera in every way.

    Micro 4/3 Olympus E-PM2

Yes, I agree that the pm2 has this advantage if its rotary wheel ever dies. The pm1 still is a great beater camera for me, but the pm2 is better in almost every way (save its disagreement with the p20f1.7 lens). Itā€™s really a nice camera, for my Italy trip I married it with my p45-175 lens and...

    Producing Moire

Very interesting experiment! A few additional ideas (that I havenā€™t tried), a high pass filter should emphasize moire that is already there , but may take some tweaking to get the gain and band pass frequency to useful values. Try very strong values of sharpening maybe (but unsharp mask would...

    Micro 4/3 Olympus E-PM2

John, I hope for you that all of the hospital and treatment craziness are past, and that youā€™ll be on the mend moving forward. You definitely have to be your own advocate, and it sounds like you are!

    Micro 4/3 Olympus E-PM2

@John King , great shots, hope this means you are starting to get out and have some fun! I was thinking about the gear I own now, available alternatives, and the gear Iā€™ve owned over the decades, and for my purposes of travel and backpacking, I donā€™t see anything Iā€™d rather have than the pm2...

Camera histograms - are they useful?

@doady Iā€™ve never considered downgrading contrast, saturation and picture style to muted to get a feel for what the raw may be capable of, thanks for pointing that out. You will still have the problem of color channel saturation that the WB hides, thus the use of uni-WB. I think the two ideas...

    Micro 4/3 Olympus E-PM2

A few with the red pm2 + p45-175. Experimenting with how bad is bright sunlight with no EVF (really bad), how long/large of a lens might work on this body (this lens is my limit, the p35-100 is a better match), how well does the body focus using CAF+tracking +BBF (about like my old pm1...

I had a stroke last night

I know this has been hard, and some of the work for recovery is just starting, but youā€™ve been inspirational and Iā€™m convinced the time will fly by and youā€™ll be enjoying life again, starting with time with your neice. Best wishes for you and your family!

    A very bad 6 months

I just saw this, I know that random things , including bad random things, happen in clusters, but this is over the top. I wish you the best, and hope time will soften the pain, leaving the good memories.

    Micro 4/3 Olympus E-PM2

I was just thinking yesterday ā€œwhereā€™s the magnification, why donā€™t I have that assigned to a button?ā€ Lol. So yes, thatā€™s a great thought.

    A digital panoramic camera.

My iPhone adds pixels as you make panoramas, my Samsung did not. This gives decent resolutions for panoramas from the iPhone. I have always wondered about cobbling together a diy fixture to control the pivot better to emulate a Widelux for the iPhone. Has anyone tried that?

    Micro 4/3 Olympus E-PM2

I donā€™t have good photos to share yet, Iā€™ll spare you photos of my feet and a star target. But a couple of other observations, the IS is at least another stop better than the pm1ā€™s with my hands, and I havenā€™t found a range of shutter speeds with obvious shutter shock like the pm1 consistently...

    Micro 4/3 Olympus E-PM2

Here we go, the red pm2 will replace the silver pm1. I havenā€™t decided what to do with the Fn button, how does everyone use theirs? Maybe a magnification since I donā€™t have that assigned anywhere? And a few extra menu items to explore in the setupā€¦ The pm1ā€™s battery is a 2011, and the pm2ā€™s...

    Your experiences with traveling light?

Since I used this thread to note my Camino gear setup, here are my 2024 changes in preparation for this summers trip to Italy, which includes a nephewā€™s destination wedding and a couple of extra weeks of touring. There are many great ways to skin the travel camera cat, Iā€™m sticking with u43...

    Micro 4/3 Olympus E-PM2

I may be joining yā€™all soon, my ancient pm1ā€™s touchy control wheel seems to have finally given up, so maybe itā€™s time for an upgrade for the newer sensor. Interestingly I have figured out how to control the camera with just switches that all work, so I can still take photos, but I haven't...

Micro 4/3 Small 2nd body for street/walk around Pen or Em10

As a previous owner of an m10.3, and a current owner of a pm1, I would probably get an m10 of some sort if I thought moving subjects would be common, and any of the p bodies otherwise. I really like my pm1 even with ancient 12mpx sensor. Although with practice I have taken pics of flying birds...

    Your experiences with traveling light?

Back from 3 weeks in Europe (part of which were walking the Camino Portugues da Costa, 280 km, 170-ish miles over two weeks with all camera gear on me), my TL;DR is to not over think it, and take gear you enjoy using. 1. Of the many hundreds of pilgrims hiking the trail, I counted three with...

    Micro 4/3 Showcase OLYMPUS M.ZUIKO 12-50mm F3.5-6.3 EZ

This lens isnā€™t as small as some (o14-42 EZ, p12-32) or quite at the level of some (o12-40, o12-45, p12-35), but really has good features, including close focus and WS. This flower is smaller than 1 cm diameter: Hello Slug: Obligatory cat shot:

Micro 4/3 Good first zoom lens?

My m5.3 menu may be a little different, but on mine you press the ā€œmenuā€ button, select the spanner wrench, select ā€œRec Viewā€, and change that to an amount of time you want your image displayed. And a second vote for adding the Panasonic 35-100 f4-5.6 if you ever desire a little telephoto...

Camera histograms - are they useful?

Yet another for team blinkie, they have been much more useful for me. Having said that, I do use the histogram to check my general exposure in very dim lighting, where Iā€™m using manual modes. The EVF boosts the lighting enough to fool me into thinking the exposure is bright enough sometimes...

    Your experiences with traveling light?

One lens for travel can be fun, especially if you allow a cell phone to be part of your kit. I visited NYC with the Canon STM 40 pancake on an aps-c body as a mild telephoto to complement the 28mm equivalent cell phone, and was happy. I could use Hugin and stitch panorama to get something in...

    Your experiences with traveling light?

Likewise, my wife and I have a spring time Camino Portugues starting from Porto planned this year which will likely have some rainy days, so the m5 with 14-150 II is my plan for most days. Iā€™m taking an old Olympus 12-50 as backup for even rainier days. Both are good enough performers for me...
