Micro 4/3 PanLeica 25 vs Olympus 25 vs Panasonic 20

I appreciate the thoughtfulness and detail of your comparisons, David. I only have one thought to offer. I owned the 20mm and loved it - and also shot briefly with the PL25 and found it very very good. But some time ago I read a fascinating technical comparison of mu43's 25mm lenses which was...

Went on a longish hike today on a beautiful section of the Pacific Crest Trail in southern Oregon, and I brought along a camera + lens combo I haven't used much lately: my Lumix GX8 + the Lumix 12-35mm zoom. I always forget just how compact the lens is - and how nicely the combination of the...

    Micro 4/3 Pan 14mm / PanLeica 15mm / Oly 17mm / Pan 12-32mm (IMAGE HEAVY)

Great post David - and your images and comments have been quite illuminating for me. As were Matt's observations as well. It (your post) also almost made me rethink my love for and fascination with my 15mm PanaLeica - to which both the lowly 14mm pancake and the faster 17mm Olympus really...

This shot was originally taken as a in-camera jpeg from the Color Profiles on my Pen F - but looking at it, somehow it seemed like it might be better in monochrome. So I processed the color jpeg in Silver Efex - which gives it much more of the feeling I had in mind originally.

Micro 4/3 I’m sure there is something wrong with me - dipping back into m43

I had the f/2.8 version of the 30mm Sigma prime for several years and found it to be a brilliant and underrated lens. It was one of the sharpest lenses I have ever had or used on any camera, and in spite of the relatively slow aperture compared to the f/1.4 version, it was significantly more...

In every group there are the misfits, the outsiders, the wild bunch. At my local Oregon organic food market, I found them huddled in a corner--- No question in my mind, these animals were the ones who must have inspired George Thorogood's classic lyrics: B-B-B-B-Bad to the bone ;)

This was taken using one of the Pen F's built-in 'Color Profiles' - color profile #3, which supposedly is the one which semi-mimics the extreme saturated colors of some slide films (Fuji's Velvia comes to mind), but which has its own interesting characteristics. Considering the bright two-tone...

A close friend of mine and fellow photographer has been hyping the virtues of his Pen F to me for a few years and finally I got sick of hearing how great it was and decided to do my own first-hand verification of both the virtues and the vices of this camera (when one came up for sale at a...

    Micro 4/3 A bit of a quandary

Well, I understand the quandary of not wanting to run 2 different systems alongside each other. And I honestly have no words of advice whatsoever to offer you because...I am in the same boat myself. Although, I finally did resolve my quandary by telling myself - yes, I am using 2 different...

Micro 4/3 Help me bond with the Sigma 30mm f2.8.

I owned this lens for quite awhile and found it to be one of the most splendidly sharp lenses I have ever used, on any camera. It is obviously slightly more telephoto than the FOV of a classic 50mm perspective, but in spite of that (or maybe because of it) I used it often on one or another of my...

Nice shots, Jock. My favorite is the first one - your stitched-together pano of the clouds with the semi-silhouetted dark landscape beneath. Really nice. Incidentally I am a fellow GX8 user, I was converted initially by the large and (to me) wonderful EVF - the best (bar none) viewfinder I...

TOTALLY agree with you. I briefly owned an E-P1 - with the underrated 17mm f/2.8 pancake lens - and I think it was a remarkable combo. And it had a wonderful way of rendering colors and tones. Its own unique visual signature I think. Film-like in some ways - and especially at lower ISO's...
