The new Amazon offices in downtown Vancouver. The building on the right has another identical tower behind it and the sliver of a black building is the third tower they will occupy. The glass and white tower on the left isn't part of the Amazon occupancy AFAIK. There will be 7,000 employees...

Micro 4/3 What Do You Use For OM Workspace Sharpening Settings?

Thanks for this but I have a question: Why did you use an image made at ISO 800? I understand that this is the requirement for OMWS AI Noise Reduction. I'm not aware of an ISO requirement for sharpening per se. I use sharpening on a variety of images with all sorts of ISOs.

    Show "Remarkable Car(s)"

Old friend of mine bought 2 of the convertable GTOs like this around 1982. He used one for parts to build the other up with a scratch built 389 done to his specs by a Can-Am race engine builder and a custom 30+ coats candy apple red paint job. Fast but didn't handle as well as a modern econobox.

Cross posted in the Architecture thread, the Sylvia Hotel is a little over a century old and a landmark in the downtown Vancouver West End. If you get a room on the South side (this street-facing side) you have a view of one of the plentiful beaches around the South and West parts of the area...

Micro 4/3 the big boy - 150-400 pro

The fabric cap that covers the front element but has to be used in conjunction with the hood is a pain. I use an aftermarket lens cap with some Sugru added to give it a broader support surface. You'll get used to handling this 'big' lens pretty quickly. I use the hood as a front element...

Micro 4/3 the big boy - 150-400 pro

You're both going to go nuts; it's sharp wide open at every focal length, focuses really close and the 1.25x built-in teleconverter is so useful and doesn't degrade sharpness at all. Even with the MC-14 added to the stack everything is still amazingly sharp. It is reasonably tough to hand hold...

Micro 4/3 What Do You Use For OM Workspace Sharpening Settings?

I've posted this on the other site but know a lot of Micro 4/3 folks have permanently migrated to Cameraderie. On properly exposed images shot with moderate to low ISOs I have been using Unsharp Mask 64% to 80%, Radius of 0.9 pixels to 2.0 pixels and Threshold of 0 to 3. Sharpness is set to Off...

Instead of drilling holes for velcro to hold power bricks, cable runs etc. I simply use small screws right through the velcro strip and to the desired place on the underside of the table top or the apron (the vertical boards under the edge of the top). If I need to move them it's a matter of...

GAS GAS: Please Share your Latest Acquisitions Big and Small

It's now a purchase from a couple of weeks back. I bought a Giottos MM 5580 monopod on clearance. It's heavy as Hell but really rigid and has a groove in each extension so tightening the telescoped segments can be done in any order. It has a non-removable fluid-damped tilt head. I won't...

We caught a break in the hot sunny weather in Vancouver. It rained some on Sunday night, rained a lot on Monday and is raining a bit this morning. It's only 14 degrees C right now and we'll have rain showers until midday tomorrow. This is the first rain since the 3rd week in June...

    Advice Wanted Lens conditions

A few dust particles won't have an impact on image quality. a lot of dust indicates the lens has been heavily used in dusty/windy environments. Moisture is an invitation to mould forming on the elements, creating degraded image quality over time.

    Advice Wanted Stuck lenscap

If you can't get a firm enough grip on the cap, put a wide rubber band on it (like the blue bands you get on vegetables) so your fingers don't slide on the plastic. If you're willing to sacrifice the cap put a set of channel lock pliers on it, get a really good grip on the lens and twist.
