Advice Wanted Refurbished laptops - Thoughts?

The biggest issue I have every time with a laptop is to make sure the screen is somewhat ā€œcalibratableā€. (Calibratable is the wrong word - since Iā€™m not actually calibrating it. Itā€™s more to get reliable/repeatable viewing settings in order to be somewhat consistent in color work). My current...

Software Camera Profiles in RAW Processing Software

When I bought my first Ricoh GR ten years(ish) ago I was taken by surprise that the manufacturer-supplied raw converter (Silkypix at the time) didnā€™t produce results that were even remotely close to the in-camera jpgs. Coming from Canon, Nikon and Olympus cameras, I just assumed that it was the...

Haha, thank you! :) Iā€™m actually trying to work more towards photos that work together as a set - and maybe even tell a story - or a mood. Iā€™m still not very good at it - but itā€™s something Iā€™m trying to get better at :)

    Keeping it together

Hang in there, Ovi (and everyone else) :care: I also don't have any wisdom to share - other than that sharing your experiences hopefully helps you, as it does others... It's good (and sad) to hear other people share their struggles - it makes ourselves feel less like an outlier. (Especially in...

Micro 4/3 Debating the Olympus 75mm VS Sigma 56mm

You could test either focal lengthsā€™ perspective with one of your zoom lenses to see whether you have a preference. The 75mm might flatten the faces too much - certain focal lengths look more pleasing with certain facesā€¦ Might not be a very noticeable difference in the end, but worth testing :)

Conflicted. Adobe looks better than Capture One's edit

If I were at this stage in editing on a bunch of my own photos, Iā€™d hit the ā€œresetā€ button in C1 and use the Lightroom result as a visual guide, to see whether I can achieve the same look with a few basic adjustments. Once you went too far overboard on a photo-edit, itā€™s best to start over. :)...

    Micro 4/3 OM-1 Mk2

While the 2400USD make it ā€˜less attractiveā€™ to me as well, it sounds ā€˜less outrageousā€™ once I looked up the initial MSRP of the EM1 mk2 - which was 2000USDā€¦ Itā€™s only the original EM1 that was released at 1400USDā€¦ (which would be a ā€˜very attractiveā€™ price today ;)
  13. T

    Micro 4/3 New rumors

Like everyone, I'm disappointed by these announcements... The OM1 mk2 makes an already expensive camera even more so... the 150-600mm's price difference to the Sigma versions is also tough to swallow... I don't think they would have met this level of meh/disappointment had they priced the mk2...

News Digital Cameras: A 2024 "status symbol"? šŸ¤”

My initial impulse to be snarky aside :) - maybe some of this trend is a reaction to phone cameras that are more and more (over-) processing by default these daysā€¦ (especially features like ā€œsmartHDRā€ can create really unnatural looking results) And I am someone who still likes dedicated...

    A digital panoramic camera.

A Sigma fp L might be a better alternative to this product? (I think it allows to preview digital crops on the LCD too? including, I believe 21:9?) Itā€™s an equally minimalist camera, but from an established lens (&camera) makerā€¦ and allows interchangeable lensesā€¦

News Digital Cameras: A 2024 "status symbol"? šŸ¤”

Totally - but the weird thing about this current fad is that theyā€™re ā€˜focussingā€™ on the most basic point and shoots from back when those were churned out in the thousands/millionsā€¦ Guess the ā€œstatusā€ part comes in when you pay the inflated prices these cameras demand these days on...

    Micro 4/3 Olympus E-PM2

Iā€™ve used the E-PM2 with the Panasonic 20mm and got some really nice results. But that 14-42mm looks really nice too! ah, interesting! I returned a lens or two for being overly harsh and contrasty in the transition, say from sky to dark tree trunks... I like a bit of blooming to soften these transitions... Haven't thought about getting a very light mist filter for that - will keep that in the back of my head :)

Nikon Let's Talk Nikon 1 For A Minute...

I think that's the crucial distinction... If you can find a nice camera/system locally or through a friend/acquaintance, it's probably a worthwhile start into the new (old) system... If you're starting out from nothing and have to get a few lenses plus camera via dealers/ebay, then I think the...

I absolutely love the 50mm f2... (I even bought a spare for that one - they're amazing value for money :) ) When I tested the Panasonic 25mm 1.4 - 43rds vs m43, I preferred the 43rds one (and got rid of the m43) I also still have and use the PanaLeica 14-150mm which is a really nice...
