    Pentax K-3 III Monochrome Sensor!

Thanks! Most important - I've already put the deposit down on Husky Season Tickets :) That's funny about Kenmore Photo - I either forgot or didn't know they were there, and I used to live up the hill in Juanita. That's one of the areas we're looking to live in. Most of the Pentax stuff I do...

    Pentax K-3 III Monochrome Sensor!

I feel your pain. I grew up in Bellevue, and took photography classes back in the 80s. At that time, I remember clearly there were the two camps - color and B&W. My photography teacher was B&W, and that's what most of my photography was. I think it's brilliant Pentax brought out a monochrome...

Film Well, How 'Bout This: Ricoh/Pentax Film Camera Development?

Yeah... I hear you. My LX (I think) works (I'll know as soon after I take about 10 more snaps - I'm not going to waste film on an Ektachrome 100!), if not my P30t definitely works, and if not that, I'm pretty sure my K1000 is indestructible. But film is so cool, and we do get a vote. And...

Micro 4/3 Back to building up M4/3 setup.

Really good run down. I have a few of the pro zooms (12-40mm F/2.8 I and II, 40-150mm f/2.8 and f/4.0). For primes, I had the 17mm f/1.8, and still have the 45mm f/1.8, and then Laowas on the wide side (4mm f/2.8, 10mm f/2.0, and a 7.5mm f/2 coming soon). Probably missing some other ones too...

Android Xiaomi 12S Ultra - Smartphone with 1 Inch Sony Quad Bayer Sensor

I am -really- curious how these 1" smartphone cameras perform Raw... If anyone has a sample, please post it here. I've watched a few reviews on the 1" sensors, and the bulk of them seem geared towards what the camera can do out of the box, e.g. how vibrant the colors are, how they compare to...

"Aviation Photo Thread" (Planes, Helos, Balloons, etc)...

So as of right now, it looks cool, cloudy, and with showers for the RIAT -- Lordwilling, the weather will clear up, but otherwise looks like the 40-150mm with the MC-14 might be in order...

40-150mm f/2.8 with the MC-20 and MC-14 for my primary lens. I thought about renting, but I think it's overkill. I'm going to Scotland the day after so I'll have on me the 12-40mm f/2.8 and at least the Laowa 10mm f/2. I work at a military air station near a civilian airport so I'm going to...

"Aviation Photo Thread" (Planes, Helos, Balloons, etc)...

Yeah, and if you stopped down to get the DoF, you'd up the ISO and not get the detail on the bird, right? Physics sucks sometimes :)

"Aviation Photo Thread" (Planes, Helos, Balloons, etc)...

Yeah, the bird is perfect on that -- I was wondering if you were getting some motion blur on the plane, but at 1/4000 I guess not. Wonderful "almost" though -- two flyers :)

"Aviation Photo Thread" (Planes, Helos, Balloons, etc)...

Wow! Oh awesome. I'm going Sunday. Right now I'm planning on taking my OM-1, 12-40 f/2.8, 40-150mm f/2.8 and both the MC-14 and MC-20 (I just got the -14. I'm wondering if getting an extra stop back will be worth it). We're heading up to Scotland afterwards, so I'll probably bring my 6mm...

Those are absolutely gorgeous shots! You're encouraging to me, because I was wondering if the gear I'm bringing to the RIAT air show will be adequate -- looks like I might be alright. I grew up watching the Blue Angels pretty much every year in Seattle. That festival must be one of the...

Just out of curiosity... Anyone going to RIAT this year? It'll be my first, and I'm pretty excited... Just got my OM-1, and trying to decide whether to go with my 40-150mm f/2.8 with the MC-20, or rent a 100-400mm...

    Micro 4/3 Thinking of switching 40-150 F2.8 to 40-150 F4

I just got back from about three weeks in Poland, and I have to admit my opinions have changed quite a bit! As a bit of context, I have a Manfrotto Street CSC waist bag (don't know the rule about product links, so please google if you want to see it). For a guy with back and knee problems it's...

Micro 4/3 What Do You Use MFT For?

Oh yeah, for sure. And this one isnā€™t competition for my E-M1.2. I just donā€™t think the size of the sensor is the limiting factor. Canon was clearly going for the ā€œsomething better than a smartphoneā€ consumer market and priced it accordingly. But it is 16MPā€¦

Micro 4/3 What Do You Use MFT For?

Oh, on the question "Should mFTs be considered the smallest of the large sensors, or the biggest of the small sensors?" Interesting question. I know Iā€™m speaking to the choir here, but it seems to me thatā€™s like asking ā€œis this car the biggest of the compacts or the smallest of the mid-size?ā€...

Micro 4/3 What Do You Use MFT For?

Yeah, @John King that's what I love about hanging out with you, and @Petrochemist and all the old MU-43 gang... You know the math. Micro 4/3 What Do You Use MFT For?

I think where the challenge is at... Not too many, even from the biggest of M43 advocates, would argue that our smaller sensors are "better" than full-frame. And frankly, a challenge we as photographers have -- physics is a thing. There's no power on earth that can change the fact that the...

    Birds Show Birds

You know, I think I've been a bit unfair about the (M43) 40-150mm f/2.8+MC20. This is not a good picture, because Sicily is not cooperating on the weather (and our lady here dumped a bunch of ash on us), but this is a 68% crop at 300mm, and I think it's decently sharp at f/5.6. Someday when I...

You're very welcome. One of the terrific things I love about Photography is that it is a means of artistic expression - you're capturing a moment or telling a story - that is accessible to people like me (stick figures are about as artsy as I get!). The very best puts your audience in the...

You should really like that. I have the 10mm, and it's a great, easy to use lens. I also recently picked up the 6mm fisheye for 360 panos. Laowa's seem to be a good value, overall.

You should definitely do it. Most of my travel is for business, but Poland is just gorgeous -- everywhere I've been. Film Well, How 'Bout This: Ricoh/Pentax Film Camera Development?

I'm watching this with interest - my Dad gifted me a whole slew of Pentax film-area lenses, and now four Pentax bodies (including 2x LX). I love the fact that you can change your "sensor" as easily as changing your film... Or go to true B&W (vs. colorized). I would buy a modern film camera -...

Film Any other pure film forums

Yeah... So part of me, the linguist part, should say that if one wants to define "analog" as not digital, that's the way language works. The photographer part of me, that realizes that light is analog, and analog isn't a bad (or old) thing wants to cry a little bit inside. But, this usage is...

    Micro 4/3 Thinking of switching 40-150 F2.8 to 40-150 F4

Yeah, I am absolutely certain that the weakest link in my bird photography is the photographer. :) I see great pictures taken at 150mm, let alone 300mm, so I think I just need to wake up early, go to some good spots, and shoot more. Diffraction at the moment might be a thing here in Sicily...

Y Yeah, that's true enough :) Mr. Bird, you have the rest of your life to start flapping... One thing I love about photography - we as enthusiasts / pros know how hard it is to nail a shot like that -- outsiders just think, "wow looks cool!"

    Micro 4/3 Thinking of switching 40-150 F2.8 to 40-150 F4

Yeah, when I got the 40-150mm f/2.8 I didn't know a whole lot about teleconverters and the MC-20 just came out, so I thought I'd go for the latest and greatest. I'm sure most of it is my skills, but between the loss of an extra stop, and general softness at the wide end, I just haven't really...

    Micro 4/3 Thinking of switching 40-150 F2.8 to 40-150 F4

I am in the same boat. I currently own both lenses, and I got the f/4 primary because of the weight, and I don't regret it. It sits in my "light" kit bag. I particularly love the fact that it shares the same filter size as the 12-40/f2.8, so I have one set of filters for my two main lenses...

Well, I'm convinced. This works. My light table came in, put together as controlled an environment as I could, and frankly, I'm super pleased with the results. I'm going to: - Replace the 3D printed extension tube with real tubes - Buy a 49mm-82mm filter adapter (3D printed screws are less...

Pentax Pentax Macro mode (Pentax-A 70-210mm or Pentax-F 35-70) for negative scanning

Well... Curiosity got the best of me :) On the Pentax Forums, a gentleman did a test of the 35-70 in Macro mode with extension tubes (36mm total) on a Pentax APS-C camera. I'm waiting on extension tubes, but in the meantime, I thought I'd print one. This is far from what the final quality...

You definitely should. I'm going to be getting some extension tubes soon, and I can't wait to try out the K-1 with this. Considering I got good results even with a 2x crop sensor, I can only imagine how much better the K-1 will be. In fact, I'm navigating getting a Macro just for the purpose...
