That's a good price and yes, that would be a very good option.

The older models such as the GH1 or GH2 would work just fine for this. The GH1 even came with an AC adapter and records to MP4. My old Canon HF100 camcorder has a mic input, but records to AVCHD, as do many similar camcorders, so that's not a good solution either.

Plenty of them do, except you didn't want 1\8 input, and they're all 2.5 or 3.5mm plugs. Every Panasonic GH series has it, as does my FZ1000, FZ200 etc. All of my video capable Canon DSLRs also have it. But none of them have RCA or XLR plugs.

I still use my GH2, and other than low light, it's still very good. For FB, it'll be good enough. Shoot in MP4 rather than AVCHD to cut down on transcoding time, and learn to shoot for the edit.

I have both the FZ200 and FZ1000. The FZ200 is a great little camera for sure, it's half the size and weight of the FZ1000. The biggest advantage I find for the FZ1000, is that it's fast, much faster than the FZ200.

The FZ1000 is f2..8 at the wide end, f4 at the long end (400mm), but with a 1" sensor. The FZ200 is the constant f2.8 25-600mm equiv, but a much smaller sensor.

The EVF makes a huge difference for travel, especially since bright sunshine is often a factor. It also helps to stabilize the camera at the long end.

Both the FZ1000 and LX100 have the 4K photo mode.

I agree with the article, my FZ1000 has been very capable. Throw in other pluses like the 4K video, 120 fps 1080p mode, and it's nearly unbeatable for travel/vacation.

Try the video mode next time for mist, or longer shutter speeds. Your eye notices the motion, the camera will freeze the droplets/mist instead.

Consumer item that requires YOU to register the product, where once you do so, there's often a survey to go with it. Compared to a product that requires maintenance for the life of the item. Honestly, I'd rather not be spammed with satisfaction surveys for every little thing.

I have the 24-105/4 'kit lens' for my 5D, which is probably the nicest one out there. The 14-140 that came with my GH1, and was in fact not even sold separately at the time is also a very good 'kit lens'.

75-300 or 70-300, both are still the cheap ones, not the better IS model. For it's range, the FZ200 is a bargain and hard to beat. I started will a DReb + 70-300 a long time ago, got great shots from it in good light but you definitely need better glass to up your game. That will not be cheap...

Most of the bundled 70-300's are of the lower quality variety, but stopping down to at least f8 helps. As already mentioned, the default sharpening on a dslr is set very low compared to any p&s. Also doesn't hurt that the deeper dof of the fz200 makes up for focusing errors, and built in IS/OS...

For a birding cam, I don't believe the A6000 is a good choice. There just isn't a good choice of long tele's in E or Alpha mount. There's some good tele's in Alpha mount but they're more expensive, harder to find, etc.

Most if not all of the current Panasonic m43's have this feature. Especially in video mode is this useful. It's the main reason why I use the GH2 and GH3 for nature videos.

Just came back from vacation and the camera list was 5Dm2, 7D, GF3 and FZ200 plus the GH's for video. A 400mm is always mounted to the 7D, 9-18mm on the GF3 and 24-105 on the 5D. Just use what each is best suited for.

I just picked up a FZ200 recently, even tho I already have the GH2 and GH3. It's a fine little package and very fast for a bridge cam. Doesn't hurt that it uses the same battery as the GH2. It's great for random birding. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

For bird photography m43 is good for reach and size, but a little short in the IQ dept. In the bird videography dept, it can't be beat. The GH3 is a big jump up from the GH2 for photography, with faster AF, better handling. It's almost as fast as my 7D but the 100-300 doesn't quite match up...

I'm wondering about that comparison. I have a number of those cameras including the OM1, the 1Dm2, 1Ds and 5D, and I'm wondering how they measure the OVF's, because there isn't that much of a diff btwn the OM1 and the FF dslrs.

Very cool, I just finished watching that before I saw your message. That's a very useful comparison, I learned a few thing I didn't know about those two cameras.

I love my GF3 + 20/1.7, and I've even used it to supplement my 5D for a wedding, but even my GH2 is just too small to handle a large flash. Even my 5D or 7D feels a bit unbalanced with a 580ex flash, the 1Dm2 and 1Ds feels more balanced, but with all that weight, even the 70-200/2.8 feels balanced.

The Canon S-95, S-100 and S-110 all have the multi-function ring around the lens barrel that can be set for manual focus. I don't have any of these models, but it sounds like what you're looking for. It's also extremely compact.

Interesting, but the problem has come back on both iPads, and the solution is not only to kill the app and restart, but you have to start the app in portrait mode before switching to landscape. Otherwise, the right side of the app is not active, basically the app still thinks the screen is in...

Fixed by killing the app, and restarting it. It's amazing how often 'shut up and reboot' works :)

Something that has interested me, is tin types and wet plates. The image is typically flawed in a very obvious way due to the manual process, but that's all part of the charm.
