    Nikon Z50 - a couple of niggles

I've had the Z 50 for 2 weeks or so now and I think I made the right choice. However it has a couple of quirks that are annoying me and I don't know whether they are down to user error. 1 - I have energy saving disabled, but the screen and viewfinder both go dim after about 2 or 3 seconds...

    Documentary Jodrell Bank Radio Telescope

The famous radio telescope dish of Jodrell Bank has been a landmark of the Cheshire countryside for 67 years. I last visited it about 28 years ago, since when a lot of money has been spent on the 'discovery centre' which explains the history of the dish and what it is used for. But the chief...

    Pentax Thinking about Pentax again...

I am seriously considering trading in my M43 gear (not that I have a huge amount these days) and getting back into Pentax. I always loved the colours and the handling of the cameras, and there are some serious bargains to be had now. A K5 for Ā£150 for example, and many lenses at or below Ā£100...

    Feedback Slow image loading?

In the last week or so, images have been taking longer and longer to load. Quite often my browser gives up and just shows a blank rectangle where the image should go. So, we had our week and a bit in Scotland. I drove 1100 miles and we ate a lot of haddock! I also took quite a few photos...here are a few of them. First stop - Stirling where we visited the Bannockburn memorial and the old town Next stop - the county (sorry, "Kingdom") of Fife. Culross...

Apps Kultcamera on Pixel 3A XL

I took a stroll around the village to stretch my legs, in a gap between the showers (first rain for 17 days!) this evening, and revisited the Kultcamera app on my phone. I had a blast! I can't remember which combination of camera, film and lens each photo used, though.

Documentary Hornsea Biker Event 2021 (image heavy)

As a companion piece to my evening at the seaside, here are a few shots from the titular event, restarting after last year's enforced absence. I'm not really a bike fan but I do like to see fine machinery and interesting people. My weapon of choice was the E-M1.1 with the Olympus 14-150 II.

    Stroll A walk around Wells

A walk around Wells, England's smallest city with one of its most impressive cathedrals. NB city in England historically meant a town with a cathedral although this has been relaxed a bit in recent years as more towns have been awarded city status. Anyway I digress... the front of the cathedral...

    North Wales trip (image heavy)

We spent a couple of nights away in North Wales, on the island of Anglesey. The weather for the first day and a half was glorious and the scenery matched it. En route we stopped at Bodnant Gardens near Conwy. The holiday cottage was in the little village of Cemaes. The walking around there...

    Micro 4/3 7 Artisans 60mm f2.8 macro

I've just got this lens so these are very initial comments. Firstly, wow, it's a solid, heavy beast of a lens. It must be milled from solid adamantine, I reckon. Here it is next to the 35-100 (admittedly tiny) lens that came at the same time. Second comment - as you move the focussing ring, it...

    Why not a digital XA?

A question that often strikes me is: if a 35mm film camera can be made as tiny as an Olympus XA, then why can't a "full frame" digital camera with a fixed lens be equally small? And in the same vein, can't a micro four thirds ILC be as small as a Pentax Auto 110? The electronic gubbins can't be...

Film Showcase Lomography Tiger 200 (110 format)

Latest scans back from Silverpan (and edited in Luminar 3). I think the Orca B&W is a nicer film, plus the little Auto 110 shoots 200 at 100 so they get a bit overexposed, and there isnā€™t the latitude to correct completely. That said, given the size of the camera these arenā€™t too bad.
