Those are sediment layers. The sediment was once on the bottom of the ocean. Thicker layers are sometimes marked by thinner layers of a different material.

I have never had a X100. I preordered the VI. I did not stay up all night waiting for preorders to open. I got up in the morning, made coffee and then preorder it. So I should get mine in about 18-months if I am lucky.

It is a super lens. Light weight, sharp across all focal lengths, compact. Not as popular as its big brother the f/2.8 version but also much less expensive and much more compact.
