Most serious compact within 250 Euro budget

Hey There, A good friend of mine wants to upgrade his compact camera and (of course) I adviced him the LX5, but that was slightly too much beyond his budget. His applications will be typical family pictures as well as movies of young kids and his wife will for sure only use iA icw out of...

What will your next (photographic) purchase be?

Nice photo's of nicely priced compact camera. Can't they glue a plastic bag arround it and call it waterproof for less than 300 Bucks?

    Samsung Samsung's Big Ambitions

Samsung is indeed a booming company in a booming country: - Nikon and Canon are having serious trouble in a troubled country Personally I foresee Samsung to for example buy Pentax to fight the Japanese camera industry - It will take time, but Samsung has the money to "buy" time...

Which waterproof compact camera can be called (most) serious?

Nice movie!!! I am indeed thinking about a cheap ( / reasonably priced) ultra compact camera that simply can't break down. - IQ is less important (I use K-x for that kind of stuff) and with LX3 experience I am also OK to sacrifice tele zoom (but love to have wide angle). - Less Mega pixels...

Which waterproof compact camera can be called (most) serious?

Funny but technically understandable, that means besides point 4, can you tell us what you mean there? I actually don't understand why it is so diffult to make good water/dirt resistant camera, especially if the lens is not moving on the outside. - start with limiting the external openings...

Which waterproof compact camera can be called (most) serious?

The Pentax W90 seems to be a reasonable underwater camera as well (cheaper and cool macro feature)

Which waterproof compact camera can be called (most) serious?

Would my K-x (icw with smaller lens like the 18-55 mm kit or new 35 mm F.24 lens) fit in such bag? - But it indeed kind of puts an end to a lot of the fun, but so will the TS2 (e.g. no DoF control and noise limiting low light applications without flash). - In case my LX3 dies, it wil be a...

Which waterproof compact camera can be called (most) serious?

I was more thinking about a compact that I always take with me and if we (family with young kids) unannounced (or planned) end up at the beach or swimming pool then I can still safely use it. Taking pictures from within the pool/lake/sea is secondairy priority, to the camera not dying on the...

Which waterproof compact camera can be called (most) serious?

Already owning LX3 and K-x and on the beach in Japan, scared to use my camera's while playing with sand and water, my mother telling my daughter she can get a camera for her birthday, I thought: - Which waterproof compact camera can be called (most) serious? Probably it will be too...

Pentax Why I bought a second DSLR instead of a mirrorless compact

You are a little ahead of my in time, but made a comparable decision. - I already own LX3 for compactness, bought a K-x recently and think the K-5 is a sweet DSLR, but also the GF2...

Leica The Leica look - what makes it, what is it?

To my opinion the top picture as well as the white hat picture in the other thread are both realy great, they create a kind of legendary atmosphere. - Next to BW, it common might be that it is about people "in action" with the absence of modern things, so a traditional setting that talks

    Contradiction

My LX3 is often too deep into my wife's bag, that is why I want a bigger camera. You have to have it with you, but also within reach so you can react on the trigger on time to catch the moment.

    A Wish for Simplicity

May I disagree (to get / keep a discussion going)? - A camera doesn't become cheaper by remove scenic settings in a menu (that has to be developed for Joe average) but a serious compact camera does become more expensive and/or less compact by adding turning wheels especially if Joe average...

    Mirrorless Camera ISO Signal/Noise Shootout: NEX5, NX10, E-P2, E-PL1, GF1, G2, GH1

Amin, Thanks for your extensive explanation, very interesting to read - I agree with you that the 20 mm F1.7 is a great lens and the compactness a nice match with a Panasonic GF1 or any of the Olympus PEN camera's. - My, I want optical viewfinder and notice m43 doesn't have real fast long...

    Pentax Pentax K-7 vs mu43?

Dear All, How to compare IQ of potentially the most serious "small sensor" DSLR (with Pentax lenses) to e.g. GF1 with 14-140 mm and 45 mm F2.8? - Is the only way to try it to try/buy both myself? Note that I mainly look for out of the camera JPG (and very limited RAW manipulation), so I...
