I just came across a website called Shotkit today where various photographers covering different types of photography discuss what gear they use, why they use it, and provide a little background about themselves. For the gear porn lovers, the photographers also post a photo of their gear (along...
Greetings everyone. It's been a while, again! I hope everyone is doing well.
I'm starting to use continuous auto focus + high speed shooting more as the kiddo is getting faster and faster. In most cameras, we get to choose zone area auto focus where we use a portion of the AF points, instead of...
This sub-forum seems a bit stale. Anyone get a Fuji XE3 yet? Or pre-order one? The camera has been calling my name recently. Fortunately, I haven't seen it "in stock" anywhere. So I haven't had to stop buying baby food in order to finance the new camera. :)
I do find the omission of the keypad...
Hey everyone! It's been a while. Decided to poke my head here and see what's going on. Downloaded the SC app onto my Android phone and fired it up. Finally gave up on the iPhone, which is simply way too pricey for me nowadays, after carriers decided not to subsidize the phone.
So I've been a...
Greetings film lovers! I'm a veteran of all of Amin Sabet's forums. Happy to be here, although I may not be contributing too much to the forum. My film fetish seems to have passed, because digital is so much more convenient. My only film camera is an old Leica M7 with the 0.85 viewfinder. Last...
What is the ideal focal length of lenses for portraits - head only, head and shoulders, and full body?
For the purposes of subject isolation, is focal length more important or aperture?
Thanks!
Today is the first and only time I've even seen a medium format camera in person, much less, have it used to take photos of me! I started work at a new firm, and was asked to go to a studio to get my photo taken for the firm website. I was totally surprised and impressed when the photographer...
I finally ordered a XT1 + 18-55 (used) kit from BH. Woohoo!!! It arrives next week.
Other than the light leak issue, are there any other known issues that I should be examining the used camera for?
What is the serial number range for XT1's with the light leak issue?
I vaguely recall reading...
I've seen the Fuji X100 twice on TV here in the US. The X100 shows up on an AT&T commercial, where this artsy looking bloke uses the X100, and then has the camera next to him on a table top, while he's doing his artsy stuff.
Yesterday, the Fuji X100 showed up as a prop in the Travel Channel...
Faster AF and phase detect support.
Nice!!

Fujifilm XT1 | Cameralabs
I like Gordon's reviews - always fair and balanced. Good discussion comparing XT1 with Oly EM1 and Sony A7.
Regarding the XT1's C-AF abilities:
- X-T1 is the only mirrorless camera with a decent sized sensor that can actually keep a subject in motion in sharp...
Amazon has been watering down the perks of its Amazon Prime membership. First, it replaced the $3.99 flat fee per item for overnight shipping with a variable fee. Now, third party items that are fulfilled by Amazon (which are eligible for Amazon Prime shipping terms) are no longer eligible at...
XF1 v. Sony A7.
XF1 photo was with the pro-low-light mode which makes one single image composite from 3-4 frames to reduce noise at high ISO. It works very well in my opinion.
First, XF1 at 100mm:

Some of my observations. Sorry, if some of it sounds chauvinistic or stereotypical!
Photo related stuff
- Asian tourists used a lot of mirrorless cameras -- primarily NEX. Saw 3-4 Olympus, a couple of Panasonic, one Samsung, 3-4 Nikon 1, and two Fuji X's
- Majority of Asian tourists still...
Panasonic GM1 is SMALL! When I made comparisons with the EPM2 in Camerasize.com, I didn't think the GM1 was that small. Now that I am holding one, wow, it's REALLY small. The body of the GM1 is actually less wide and thinner in depth than the Sony RX100. I definitely need a grip for the GM1...
I get so irritated when I'm on Flickr (or other photo websites), and photographers hide the EXIF info.
Being the gear head, all I want to know is what camera and/or lens was used. Plus, sometimes I also want to know the focal length, f-stop, and ISO.
Are photography trade secrets or...
I'm hoping that we can create one thread with our evaluations on what adapted lenses work and do not work with the A7 and A7r. Hopefully, it will facilitate access to such information, and folks won't have to go to multiple threads.
Perhaps the folks with experience can just write up a...
Okay folks, I'll get this started! Fishing in cold weather with family!
All photos taken today with the A7 and as Luke said, the "garbage" kit lens (28-70). Larger versions on Flickr.
I've been playing with focus peaking in the XE1 and X100 since their firmware upgrades. I find that the shimmering is not sufficiently pronounced even when set on "high."
For the owners of the X100S and XE2, do you find the split prism a better or worse way to manually focus vs. peaking...
The better half and I had the chance to celebrate year one back in San Francisco, the site of our destination wedding. We relaxed and had a blast with a professional photographer, who took "post wedding" photos for us. We didn't have an "engagement" photo session last year, because of budgetary...

Ever since Flickr decide to do the new photo experience, I've been having problems grabbing the BB or HTML code. I'm still using the "old" experience. But the little icon at the bottom of the page that allows for grabbing the BB or HTML code is "greyed out." Anyone else encounter that problem?
I just bought an used XE1 with 18-55 and also an used 35/1.4. With the latest firmwares on the XE1 and the lenses, the 35/1.4 is chattering like it did when I was an early adopter of the XPro1. I can hear some chatter on the 18-55, but it's nowhere nearly as loud as the 35/1.4.
Didn't Fuji...
I was reading DPR's preview of the XE2, and the writer was lauding Fuji for vastly improving the AF performance of the XPro1 since its launch in early 2012. And how Fuji's support for its product builds customer confidence.
I was chewing on those statements for a little bit. But I can't seem to...
Sometimes it's nice to have a long telephoto and just snipe away unnoticed. I try not to think myself as paparazzi. Or stalker. Or worse.
EM5 + 14-150
Posed Candid by Armanius, on Flickr
Photo from more than a year ago with the trusty EM5 + PL25/1.4. Cropped parts of the right and bottom to chop out most of the car on the foreground (which I found to be distracting).
Wife (fiancee at the time) and I were in San Francisco planning for the destination wedding. This gentleman did...

An old video from Jordan and the good folks at TheCameraStore. Came across this for the first time today. Apparently not as popular as the original battle scene.
Well worth watching!! Imagine the last battle scene in the movie "Glory" ...
Anyone else encounter errors when posting messages? I get an error message every time I post something through Safari. And I get double posts at time.
I'm also encountering problems posting photos that I uploaded into the FujiXspot gallery. I can see the photos only if I'm logged into the...
Matt Granger's video review of the XA1. What a lucky bloke to run into a hotel maid that willingly models lingerie for him.
Turns out she's a model. LOL! :laugh1:
I have idea why Amazon's price on the XM1 is all over the place, but the silver body is listed at $503 now. The brown body is listed at $699, and black body at $645.
Silver kit is also cheaper at $727 vs $799 for black and brown kits.
It's for the silver and black with the 16-50 kit lens. I believe it used to retail for $799. Priced at $684.79 straight from Amazon.

Making my first trip with the wife to Rome and Paris during the holidays. I'm stressing over: gear; what to do; what to photograph; where to stay; how best to avoid pickpockets; etc ...
As far as gear is concerned (my favorite subject), I'm struggling with whether to go as light as possible, or...
I've used Google Maps and the "street view" feature many times in the past to find directions here in the US. I bought a Google Nexus 7 recently (straying from the Apple world), and while playing with Google Earth, I decided to "visit" my home country of Brazil. I thought the "street view"...
Amazon has a coupon that can be applied for camera gear (and just about anything else including tablets).
It's for 10% off up to $100 for the items purchased. If the item(s) are more than $100, all you get is $10 off. But still better than nothing!

DigitalRev's review of the Leica M(240)
Leica M 240 - Hands-on Review
I recall watching DigitalRev's review of the Leica M9 a few years ago. Along with spending way too much time at Steve Huff's website, Kai's review of the M9 inspired me to crazily purchase one.

Okay, so the Sony RX100 M2 is not just "any" PS ...
I've been wondering if I can justify paying $750 for one to replace my wife's Canon S90. When prices get that high for a PS, I invariably start thinking about ILC with larger sensors, but then, it would defeat the purpose of having a small PS...
A woman was stabbed to death in Hollywood after she refused to pay the panhadlers $1 for taking a cell phone photo of one of their signs.

I have an Epson Artisan 700 multi-function printer. I apparently don't use it enough, and now the printer head/nozzle is clogged just enough to create all these vertical lines. I finally received the wedding photos from the pro photographer, but can't print them, because of the lines.
