    Panasonic Panasonic ZS-100 Latest Images

I think you're right, the shot at 250mm looks terrific. Now I just have to figure out what to switch out of the camera lineup. Thank you very much for the comparison shots, that was very helpful.

    Panasonic Panasonic ZS-100 Latest Images

Dale that's actually very good news. I understand that the lens will be relatively softer at longer FLs but wow it was soft for DPreview. If that one was a faulty lens as well then this is definitely going to beat out the rx100 iv as my choice for a pocketable camera.

    Panasonic Panasonic ZS-100 Latest Images

Dale how would you compare the IQ to say the rx100 series? I'm curious because I was going to pull the trigger on the zs100 but the sample photos on DPreview looked extremely soft. There was even a discussion about whether or not the images needed to be reshot (they never were). Thanks

Nikon some food for thought on d5500

Good point on the liveview, it is slow turning on in the Nikon. However, I had a chance to play around with a friend's Canon 70d with the dual pixel focus and found liveview to be much more accessible not to mention the accuracy and quickness of the AF. If they had that on the 7dII along with a...

Nikon some food for thought on d5500

Yes, you're exactly correct. Also, having cycled through a number of cameras recently I've begun to appreciate a flip out screen. I know the d750 has one but I still don't like shooting in Nikon's live view. I'm 'assuming' that since the d5500 has a touch screen shutter like the one found on...

Nikon some food for thought on d5500

I haven't seen a dx that's a 2.8 constant, which is what I was comparing in the links. I think the Tamron will do well though. The Nikon kit lens was OK but not stellar imho.

Nikon some food for thought on d5500

That is some food for thought. I haven't given Pentax a gander in quite some time. But, once you stick a 2.8 zoom on there, it's back to Nikon size. Compact Camera Meter I realized that I'm not familiar with Pentax glass at all. I'll check slrgear and see how it compares IQ and price wise...

Nikon some food for thought on d5500

well, none of them are pocketable but the d5500 is lighter than an x-t1 with the new fuji 2.8 lens. Granted, if you keep the kit lens on the fuji it's smaller and lighter than the nikon. Point is, once these guys start increasing in quality glass then the size differences diminish. I shoot...

Nikon some food for thought on d5500

Yeah, that's where Nikon is lagging. I would end up using the tamron for a normal range zoom and the tokina for a wide.

Nikon some food for thought on d5500

If you want fast AF and small size, this may work: Compact Camera Meter I've had a lot of headaches with Nikon lately but if you can find a good DX lens then this model may have what I'm looking for in a travel camera. The ideal would be the Olympus but I don't like the IQ. Love the fuji but...

    Ricoh argghh my GR rant

I'm curious if they'll let themselves really innovate with the next coolpix A model or not. It could be amazing or they could take the cannon approach of incrementally improving existing tech. We'll see but I'm betting their starting price will be around the original Coolpix A price so it'll...

    Ricoh argghh my GR rant

Glad I got my d610 as a trade for a truly defective d600. If I payed full price for it I'd be pretty ticked off about the discounts and the consumer image that follows the D6xx series. Gray market d750 is going for $1799.00. I wouldn't buy gray market nikon but man, the price is dropping...

    Ricoh argghh my GR rant

Ricoh GR on order. For street photography it simply can't be beat IMO. I considered the coolpix A after it's price dropped but with the AF firmware update, one handed operation and the fact that I already have a charger and spare batteries I'm going back to it as my street camera. Thanks for all...

Sony TheCameraStoreTV: RX100 III and Canon G7X...terrible Canonitis disease

True on Kai buuuuuuut at least he is comical and more than occasionally helpful. TCS is helpful but rarely comical IMO. Their G7x review was neither helpful or comical. Alas, I missed my opportunity to become the youtube camera thrashing sensation lol

Sony TheCameraStoreTV: RX100 III and Canon G7X...terrible Canonitis disease

I'm finding the x100s odd control wise (at least for me) since I have my dslr set up to expose to the right, literally. Shutter speed, aperture and exp comp all set to turn right to under expose. The opposite of fuji

Sony TheCameraStoreTV: RX100 III and Canon G7X...terrible Canonitis disease

Could be early production issues. I know that in the video they were focusing on a field. Saw the camera labs review and it seemed fine to me. Who knows. How many times can you return defective cameras to amazon before they flag your account?

Sony TheCameraStoreTV: RX100 III and Canon G7X...terrible Canonitis disease

Yes, I've found their reviews to be increasingly nitpicky although I do have to credit them for me going toward the GR instead of the Nikon coolpix, although the price factor also had a lot to do with it. Having said that, I just checked amazon and the Nikon is at the same price as the Ricoh and...

Sony TheCameraStoreTV: RX100 III and Canon G7X...terrible Canonitis disease

Ray, why do you think they had such a bad experience with the AF on the G7x? I'm very curious because 1. I remember when they compared the rx100iii it's AF was significantly slower than the GM1 and 2. The G7x was going to be my go everywhere pocket cam. Any insights are welcome, thanks!

Fuji Great sensor but slow, any advice

Ray, that's a good point about the baked in NR. I should have specified that in my original post. I've been using the x100s for jpg shooting only, mainly because I'm looking for something with an easier workflow that doesn't require much time in post. After reading the reviews of fuji's jpg...

Fuji Great sensor but slow, any advice

Thanks for the advice, I'm taking a long weekend biz trip to S. Korea at the end of the month and will most likely have a new GR with me. Fuji Great sensor but slow, any advice

I absolutely love the images I'm getting from the x100s but, for street photography it's way too slow when compared to the ricoh gr. I've tried all the different AF settings as well as zone focus and zone focus is really the only way I can get any satisfactory images. I see that if I changed my...

    Nikon J3 deal

Just thought I'd pass this along since I'm in my testing GAS stage and just bought one. It's for a refurbished J3 in black. Last time it was in white and sold out by the time I checked the site. I'm figuring it's a relatively safe purchase in the sense that if I really don't like the camera...

    Ricoh argghh my GR rant

I'm borrowing an x100s for a bit. I can see why people like it and I feel as though I've missed out on two years of great photography with the fuji sensor but for street shooting I can also see why the ricoh has the following it does, handling and functionality. The iso 6400 doesn't blow me away...

    Canon Canon G7X shooters impressions

Ray, Canon is good about registering and servicing gray market hardware. They'll even let you sign up for their pro membership using that gear. If I was going full frame with canon I wouldn't hesitate to go gray market even on a $3k camera. The G7x should be covered.

Gents thanks for the great recommendations. Ray, you're right and I probably should have started by looking at what to do with my dslr. Ricoh argghh my GR rant

Gentlemen and Ladies, thank you for the helpful posts. Ray, you actually hit the nail on the head. Ideally I would keep the GR and get a pocket zoom camera. I think that's why I went with the used GR - great lens but damaged motor. (FYI lensauthority was great to deal with on the return. The...

    Ricoh argghh my GR rant

I just sent back my second Ricoh GR. This time it was a used body from lensauthority (they were great to deal with by the way). News Canon G7 X

Is that all? My wishful thinking was hoping for more. I was also hoping for Ricoh to do an update on the GR but that probably won't come until next summer. I did see their patent for a 24mm f2 lens. If they put phase AF on the crop sensor thereby remaking the IV in crop format then I'll be...

I found writing the essay and sharing the photos to be very helpful. Like John, I find my cameras to be my safety blanket in those times and I wish I had taken some photos inside St. Paul's church when the rescue workers used it as a resting area. I actually didn't have those rolls of film...

    Unobtrusive cameras

How usable is the GM1 in comparison to the GR, in terms of changing shutter, aperture and exposure comp on the fly. I don't expect it to be nearly as street friendly as the GR but is it at least 50% of the way there?

    Unobtrusive cameras

You and me both will have to wait to see how it works once it comes out. According to amazon the x100t with electronic shutter will be out before the new X-T1, but I don't know when they'll roll out the firmware updates. Until then, it's hard to say. I don't know if it'll have the same issues as...
