Peyto Lake is a breathtaking surprise. In contrast to green and grey-on-grey mountainous vistas, the glacier fed blue lake (no colour enhancement!) is stunning.
Near our home is a prosaic suburban park with a small lake (about 2 km circumference). However, as the autumnal colours emerge the ordinary becomes extraordinary, especially in the early morning sun.
My MFT (Lumix GX9, 12-60mm f 3.5-5.6 Lumix) is my one and only. I use it for all my picture taking, except for in-store pictures of soup cans, etc, that I have to message to my wife.
Iāve moved on (Lumix GX9). In addtion to the dust issue, the control for the focal length, at the base of the shutter relase, was not working reliably. It could have been electrical (but everything else worked well) or perhaps dust in the lens extension mechanism. As a bonus, the two batteries I...
Bois de Liesse, mid-spring. Large puddles and ponds form after the snow melt, and some aquatic birds populate them for a few weeks before they disappear.
24? 36? It was a different kind of arithmetic back in the day. Yes, every shot was precious, taken with care and time (except for shots of my young children). Going on vacation meant anticipating the film load, since many of my destinations were far from photo stores or other sources. Colour...
Lunar surface, indeed! That is precisely what I thought when I looked at the patterns on the snow in my backyard. I used some processing to give the picture a more ālunarā look.
I often export photos from Apple Photos to a temp folder. I then open the images with Preview and then save them in a different format (e.g., jpeg to png) and then print the pictures. Works all the time.
Sometimes, when I try to edit an image in Photos, I get a message that the original cannot...
We went to a Monet exhibit earlier today. Iām not a fine art aficionado but I am familiar with impressionism. I thought of todayās quest in photography to capture the most accurate detail possible in our digital images. By contrast, Monet used dabs of paint to give rise to objects and colours in...
I bought my LX100 in 2015. I had diligently cleaned the lens barrel before closing the camera. Also, I reasoned that dust could enter the body when the lens was extended via a vacuum effect, so I carefully examined the lens barrel before turning on the camera. All of this worked well; for up to...
Goodbye LX100. I loved this camera for its controls, picture quality (jpegs) and versatility. It was dust on the sensor that did it in. I had contemplated getting the LX100M2 but when the dust levels in the LX100 became too much to clean-up or ignore I decided to go to an interchangeable lens...
Yes, indeed. Even with the kit lens (12-60mm, f3.5-5.6) it is a reasonable carry. Having access to the sensor for cleaning is the main reason for my decision to return to an interchangeable lens system.
No escaping addiction. Bear with me, this is a story that stretches decades. Prior to abandoning SLRs in 2002 I spent too much time obsessing about additional lenses for my camera (there was always a better lens than the ones I owned). Reading magazines with comparison charts, fabulous news...
Each winter the ālakeā in Centennial Park progressively freezes except for one area on the west side. Of the aquatic birds, ducks remain almost all winter; people feed them with seeds and grain tossed on the snow.
It was a remarkable experience. I didnāt have my camera with me, but, as is said, the best camera is the one you have in your hand. Best place, best time, best camera. I donāt expect this to happen again.
