The clearest night of my life in Leavenworth, WA

Went to a cabin about 5 miles East of Leavenworth, WA. Obviously the long exposure exaggerates the effect, but this was the clearest, brightest night of stars I've ever seen (and I've had some good ones) Got a funny sensor error or something in the upper right corner of the second photo...

From a march.. to a protest.. to a riot

It's Anarchists. They've been around Seattle since the WTO stuff way back when. Mostly just anti government stuff. There's a real protest all day which is mostly peaceful, then these guys come out and raise a little hell.

From a march.. to a protest.. to a riot

Well, it's May 1st, so Seattle gets to go through "Anarchists breaking shit" day. Basically 300-400 cops get a bunch of overtime for babysitting would be revolutionaries. It starts out as a peaceful march through the city and always (ALWAYS!) ends with these folks doing some petty mayhem and...

    A most beautiful superfund site!

It's actually not bad! I still have my RX10 and an A6000, but this is my "I believe this to be a picture worth the time" camera. BULLET LIST! I think it's more ergonomically friendly than the Merrill. The shot-to-shot performance and the screen are vastly superior. The focus in low light...

    A most beautiful superfund site!

Sigma DP2 Quattro. Harbor Island near West Seattle, WA. 15s, ISO200, F/8. The export has a lot more noise than the original. Need to work out how to handle noise with the Quattro. Very little post, even though it looks very painterly. The Quattro long-exposure is fickle as hell. Sometimes you...

A spring morning down by the water

Good call. The mkii is super cool, but I came to realize that videography is a whole separate skill set. At $500, the RX10 is HANDS DOWN the best deal in cameras IMO.

Wow! Where in the world did you get that deal? Average used price is 800-900 usd

A spring morning down by the water

Thanks. Honestly the much cheaper mki has identical photo quality and can be had for under $500 on eBay. I've sold most my gear as the rx10 is just so good and versatile.

A terrible camera that produces singular images

So, after owning (and mostly loving) the Sigma DP Merrill cameras, I decided I would create a camera dichotomy: 1) A Sony RX10 mkii which is likely the most technically sophisticated, easy-to-use, compact, and multi-purpose camera ever made. It produces detailed, clinically accurate files with...

Portraits are perhaps not my strong suit...

A friend of mine needed some publicity shots for her new book, so I grabbed the GX7 and the Oly 25/45/75 lenses and headed into downtown Seattle on what could easily be described as the crappiest day of weather I've seen in years. Cold, rainy, windy. Ugh. Anyway, we shot a bit in the massive...

A cold and foggy morning on the water

It was 29 degrees and foggy as all hell this morning, so I got up MUCH earlier than usual and headed down to a small park across the water from downtown Seattle. All taken with RX10 or RX100 IV. Amazingly, the first shot is pretty much OOC. The others are various levels of processed in LR. 1)...

Sony RX10 mkii high speed footage

Yeah, for non-HFR stuff the original RX10 is the bargain of the century! Can usually get one under $600 used. The 120fps mode on the original RX10 is... not great. Very grainy and kind of dull. It's totally usable, but after seeing the mk2 footage I was done. I have both (and the RX100 mk 4)...

Timelapse of a lenticular cloud around Mt. Rainier

I believe it was 240 images at 15 second intervals, so about an hour. The battery gave out as I hadn't fully charged it. It's cool it just autosaves what it has captured if the battery dies. The setup of the PlayMemories store on the camera is a LIVING NIGHTMARE and Sony should be ashamed.

Timelapse of a lenticular cloud around Mt. Rainier

Hi all, I don't know the forum rules on this as it's technically a "video". Let me know if this is acceptable. thanks! Taken with Sony RX100 mk4 and the PlayMemories time-lapse app If that doesn't work, here's a still of Mt. Rainier I took with the RX-10:

    A new beginning

I started editing photos on my iPad, I ended up processing a little more than I usually do. I actually liked it this time but I could see falling into the trap of doing this on every picture. Also, the RX10 may be the greatest all-around camera I've ever used. In engineering marvel! created by...

    Monotone Market

Got a bit stir crazy today, and decided to go down to Pike's Place Market. I hate this place. I really do. It combines my two strongest hatreds: overpriced "artisanal" goods and bus loads of tourists. However, it was better than sitting on the couch staring at my stupid dog. Enjoy...

Sigma Embracing the cliché (or: the day I pretended to be a "street shooter")

Yeah, #2 is pretty good. I was in a mood yesterday. I stood in that alley for a very long time waiting for a geometrically pleasing alignment of people to line up. I almost started dragging people around to place them.
