Leica Leica Q Product Life Cycle

Curiously enough, I've found the 28mm focal length excellent. I have the X-U as well (which I still use for underwater shooting), but decided to get the Q when I realized that I loved the Leica style of shooting but wanted a faster camera. The Q has turned out to be ideal for this purpose. If...

Leica Leica Q Product Life Cycle

Well ... I love shooting Leica style so much with my X-U that I just feel I have to get the Q. I tried it in the Leica Store Miami. It's fantastic. I love how much better the focus magnification and peaking work compared to the X-U. However, my brain wonders about a practical matter. I know...

Leica Request: Let this be the SL & T Forum

Shouldn't the T deserve its own space? They are pretty different cameras ...

Leica Leica Q Shutter Speed vs Exposure Compensation

I'm curious ... I think a lot of you here are Q owners. Everyone seems to love the Q. You've probably read some portion of DPReview's review, which says that strange control analomies damage usability. I was particularly surprised by the shutter speed dial not moving in thirds, as it does on...

Leica FlashAir with Leica X series

Has anyone tried the Toshiba FlashAir memory card with any Leica for which it's compatible? What I'm learning is that a lot of the time I want to have my X-U underwater, but don't want to join it there. For example, if I'm on my kayak in a lake, I want to hold the camera underwater. If I join...

Leica X-U (or X Type 113) Focus Aid

I think Dale has somewhat different ideas about the English language than we do. At first I thought it was really strange for him to talk about the cameras he obviously loves (for, why else spend so much money on them?) as primitive, but then I realized that what he really means is what we say...

Leica X-U (or X Type 113) Focus Aid

Understandable, since people tend to use wide angle lenses with Leicas, and IS isn't all that useful for wide angle.

Leica X-U (or X Type 113) Focus Aid

Is it just me, or is it hard to use the focus magnification in the X-U because the magnified portion of the image is simply blown up from the viewfinder, and therefore highly pixelated and without much detail? I think I've been missing focus targets because of this. And I'm curious, for those...

    Leica Leica X type 113

Using my X-U, turning the focus dial to the Infinity setting definitely shows distant subjects more in focus than slightly before infinity. I happened to be shooting a sunset yesterday, which made me curious about that question, so I tested it out. This is different from many cameras with zoom...

    Leica Leica X type 113

Interestingly enough, the Leica S and SL both have a really cool software scale on the top LCD. It reads out the focus distance and the front and rear in-focus measures based on depth of field. Perhaps they can add something like this to the X-series in a firmware upgrade.

    Leica Leica X-U Underwater Photo!

I believe I did but am not 100% certain. You should be aware that conditions on my lake are very different from ocean conditions. The lake water is very dirty (i.e. filled with dirt particles – it's not unclean or insanitary but it definitely lacks clarity). I tried the ocean today and the...

    Leica Leica X-U Underwater Photo!

Well, I have my X-U, and I really love it so far! As you may know from my earlier posts, I vowed to be one of the first people not connected with Leica to shoot underwater with the X-U, so I come to redeem my promise :). I'm not going to say this is a pretty image, but to my eye it shows an...

    Leica Leica X type 113

I have to admit, I find it very curious that nobody except that nice girl from Leica Store Miami seems to have taken it underwater. I've seen a few X-U shots on Flickr, but few of them seem to do anything underwater in anything deeper than a puddle. By the way, I visited Leica Store Miami...

    Leica Leica X type 113

I'm intrigued by the X-U, which is the X but with a ruggedized body for underwater and tough condition photography. Might that be a good fit for your upcoming trip, especially considering your name? :)

Leica Travel to the third world

Mijo, thanks for such a detailed response. I daresay an insurance policy for my equipment is in my future. Do you have a recommendation for a company that specializes in high-end gear? If you don't mind my asking, I am new to Leica and don't know the acronyms - what's a MM, MP, SEM? Are...

    Leica Leica SL

I suspect this is simply about different kinds of shooters. I do things differently than what you're used to. And I don't think there's anything wrong with that, it just seems odd for you to firmly deny that photographers like me, who handhold D4/5 class cameras, exist. I do not doubt your...

    Leica Leica SL

Yes, it is. This should not be too surprising to you, since Nikon has sold thousands of D3/D3S/D4/D4S/D5s for the purpose of high-speed shooting in tough conditions. I would say very few D5 cameras are used with a tripod. If people had difficulty shooting handheld with it, it would have been...

Leica Travel to the third world

I'm interested in undertaking a trip to the Philippines or Africa in the next year or so. I have a Nikon D5 and am considering the purchase of a Leica X-U. I'm curious to know how much of a risk there is of theft of very expensive cameras if you take them on trips to lower income countries...

    Leica Leica X type 113

Interesting camera. I liked the EVF but it and its lenses have such a toylike feel I dismissed it. It only cost me $399 for the camera and the wide and telephoto zooms. I still have it floating around somewhere.

    Leica Leica SL

Absolutely. I'm not thrilled with losing f/2.8, but I do like the additional focal length range to 90mm. It's an interesting tradeoff. I think the comparison from the top actually understates the difference. If my memory serves from seeing the SL a week or so ago at the Leica Store, it is...

    Leica Leica SL

I thought you guys might enjoy a totally different viewpoint, from someone who will definitely consider a SL or its successor next time I buy this class of camera. From the viewpoint of a Nikon D4/5 user, the Leica SL is a small and light camera, with small and light lenses. And yet it has...

    Leica Leica Record Profit

I wasn't really interested in Leica until I checked out the SL and X-U. The SL seems to give Nikon's D5 a good run for its money, with a smaller and lighter camera which is attractive to me. I wound up buying the D5 because it would have been staggeringly expensive to buy the SL with its 24-70...

Leica Buddhas of Wat Sisaket with the trusty Leica X1

I find it an absolute joy to shoot and am attached to it in a way that the Buddha would have advised against. Just wanted to tell you this made me smile. Really nice photos, too :).
