News Digital Cameras: A 2024 "status symbol"? 🤔

"Vintage" computers are back. The prices on old tech, including old high-end PC systems for use by "retro" gamers, have jumped in recent years. Old working CRT monitors in particular are going for outrageous prices in some markets. 😳

News Digital Cameras: A 2024 "status symbol"? 🤔

Who knows, maybe this will help spur some sales this year. 🤷‍♂️ Apparently a predicted "status symbol" trend for 2024 is to use an actual (digital) camera instead of your phone. From Business Insider...

Sorry to hear about the broken ribs; hopefully your recovery is speedy & not too painful. iPhone creates fascinating photo

It makes me wonder if we're heading down a path where eventually instead of an "original" photo being accepted as a legal matter-of-fact that instead only photos from specific authorized gear will be accepted. Dedicated 'dumb' digital cameras might become a niche that survives going into the...

    iPhone creates fascinating photo

I'd be curious as to whether this would be considered a manipulated image or if it would be accepted as an original unaltered image. In light of stuff like winners of photo competition winners being contested for having manipulated the winning image, how would something like this be handled?

    Images sizes on the board?

Everybody is right. ;) Just about any size image can be uploaded but it will be resized to 1600 along the biggest edge. For that reason for our members concerned about image quality (IQ) resizing we recommend that they resize to 1600 or less prior to uploaded so that the file they they...

For the 'Birds in Flight' shooters, a few questions. 🐦

There have been some absolutely amazing shots in the 'Birds in Flight' image thread.... https://cameraderie.org/threads/birds-in-flight-photos-post-here.56436/ The wide variety of birds and shots have made me start wondering if the area I live in is devoid of variety or if I really need to get...

    Baseball vs. $12K Lens

The announcer had the same question I did.... "Did he get the shot?" :D I didn't see mention of whether he got any shots from it. Did they change something over there? Looks like the footer got wiped out. For a brief second I forgot that was one of Amin's old sites.

Are you really texting or using email? If actually texting then the SMS & even MMS protocols can vary wildly in regards to image sending limits by both devices (iOS, Android) and carriers (Verizon, AT&T, etc.) If you're using email, what are some of the errors that you're getting bounced back?

What is the best way of displaying images on this Forum?

Honestly, that may be overthinking it a bit because using the post edit function to resize the image is only regards to the current device viewport size. What I mean by that is that a really wide image, for example, will never cause a left-to-right scollbar to show because the image display...

What is the best way of displaying images on this Forum?

Yep, 1600x1600 is the current max resolution so any image with either H or W greater than 1600 will be scaled down. All images get compressed but hopefully not to the point that it's noticeable.

Opinions on .photo for website domain?

When grabbing .photo, don't forget that .photography also exists. If grabbing any domains that might be used for branding and/or commercial stuff you'll likely want to grab both. There's also .camera for anybody wanting to cover all the bases.

Opinions on .photo for website domain?

The newer TLDs like .photo are great for branding and online SEO but still not well known enough for offline listings. If you do any type of offline ads and will be going with a newer TLD then also grab a traditional com/org/net TLD, even if it is not ideal, and then use that in your print ads...

Be careful with you explosive "vintage cameras"

Jay-Z Files Lawsuit Against Photographer Jonathan Mannion for “Exploiting” His Likeness

In the linked article the statement from Mannion indicates that he is just selling prints, is it known if he is selling other stuff with the images? The California law being invoked seems to be more directed towards somebody's likeness being used on merchandise or in advertising.
