Advice Wanted Anyone using RVNA insurance for their gear?

State Farm offers a personal articles rider you can get for your homeowners to cover virtually anything. https://www.statefarm.com/insurance/home-and-property/personal-articles-policy I had one for about 5 years to cover replacement on my cameras. I never had the opportunity to file a claim...

So, I'm on a kick to become more fluent with ART. If for no other reason than to have a backup for Capture One in the event they do something even more stupid than their current commercial stupidity. There is a good bit to ART and much of the terminology is different than what I've become...

    RIP "The Literate Lens"

Sigh, We have lost another one.... I had only last month stumbled across the website The Literate Lens. I've been watching this discussion with a bit of interest since it emerged. Maybe it's just us "old farts" but I'm decidedly on the side of Irene and John in this discussion. Typically, I don't comment about the technical features of an image, but will comment about something in the image. You...

    Lost (or found) in translation

I used to work with a guy who was from Micronesia, so English was definitely not his first language. Gene would read the dictionary at night and come to work the next day with a passel full of new and interesting words. He could curse you out 57 ways from Sunday, and you wouldn't have a...

Does better PP software mean you can buy a cheaper camera?

Looking at this from a slightly different perspective, modern software can make make images from older cameras look very good. When I adopted Capture One a couple of years ago, I was amazed how good imagery from my Olympus E-10 looked, even at a blazing 4 mega pixels.

LOL! Well, seeing as we have revived this thread from the dead, let's pull the string a little bit. Like most, my scheme have evolved over the years. I've been shooting since '99. Until 2006, my management scheme was, less than optimal. Grab some shots, read them into whatever storage media...

How Did You Begin Your Photographic Journey?

Around 1977 I saw a B&W photo exhibit at the university I was attending and was hooked. Shortly thereafter a used Minolta SRT-102 with a 50mm f1.8 was sourced via a local newspaper advert. The rest, as they say, is history...

Well, time will tell. Trumann Prevatt posted some generic financial info about Gear Patrol, and at first glance, they aren't the most well funded entity in the world. His words were it seemed to be quite a stretch for GP to make this "acquisition" and he hoped it all worked out. I...

As much as I hate HP products in general, I've had good luck with their monitors. I've got three of them at this juncture. All were inexpensive, all now 5+ years old. As a result of their widespread business with US government, when it comes time for new products, the older product lines can...

I'm done as far as hardware goes. I "traded" my X100s for a XF16-80 right before Christmas. That get's me back to 3 cameras (one fixed lens and two interchangeable) , and 6 lenses.
