    Canon Dynamic range of G1X

You are absolutely right. I did think you guys were talking about the Panasonic GX1. That clears something up for me. There was talk about the 2nd edition of the camera. I didn't think there was a 2nd rev of the GX1 and googled but couldn't find anything. That's because I was thinking of...

    Canon Dynamic range of G1X

I was recently in Japan and considered buying a used GX1 there. They are going for about $75 for the body. It's Japanese used otherwise known as mint in the rest of the world. The same $75 will get you a G5. GF2s are still strangely selling for $200 but GF5s are under $50.

Canon Stupidly perhaps, I'm going to try the EOS-M

The EOS M, the X100, the Coolpix A and the new Ricoh are all APS sensored cameras. The X10/X20 are definitely not in that league.

Canon Stupidly perhaps, I'm going to try the EOS-M

That's the thing though. It's not the first time Canon has done it. They've done it countless times. This algorithm isn't exactly new and complicated. It's the imaging world's version of hello world. It's not exactly a grand challenge. There is no reason that it wasn't this fast when it...

Canon Stupidly perhaps, I'm going to try the EOS-M

I've had a NEX 3 since they came out. It's never had a problem with AF. While the current NEX models are a little faster, I wouldn't call the difference a struggle. Also, I don't think that sensor size has much to do with it since larger sensor cameras tend to focus faster than their smaller...

Canon Stupidly perhaps, I'm going to try the EOS-M

Is it hard though? Afterall every P&S camera does it. Seems that the problem is the exception and not the rule.

Canon Stupidly perhaps, I'm going to try the EOS-M

The EOS M can be worth it depending on your intent. I don't think it competes well against other CSCs. It still isn't that cheap since you can get M43 and NEX cameras right around $300 as well. But if you think of the EOS M with the 22mm as a fixed lens APS P&S camera, then that's another...

    Canon $399 EOS M+22mm f2 Ebay DoD

I read that the Canon M has really slow AF. I always take reviews with a grain of salt since many times it's not as bad as it's reported to be. In this case, I think they understated it. I played with one in store yesterday and it is ridiculously slow. The Canon M should only be use to take...

    Canon Canon G1X in Tasmania

I remember when I was in Tasmania. When I first arrived, Hobart seemed like a decent little town. After a few weeks driving around Tasmania where most towns are a gas station and a general store, Hobart felt like a metropolis when we got back.

    Canon G1X instead of a RX100?

Too expensive, might as well get the RX100.

    Canon G1X instead of a RX100?

I lust after the RX100. The problem is price. Now that the G1X can be had for half the cost of a RX100 I'm wondering if I should get that instead. There are pluses and minuses for both. In terms of IQ, I think of it as a wash. This would fill the role of go anywhere travel camera for me...
