Micro 4/3 What Do You Use MFT For?

My MFT (Lumix GX9, 12-60mm f 3.5-5.6 Lumix) is my one and only. I use it for all my picture taking, except for in-store pictures of soup cans, etc, that I have to message to my wife.

Micro 4/3 Talk me out of the LX 100 ii (or D-Lux 7)

Reading about your dilemma is interesting to me because your concerns are the same as mine. But my perspective is that of current LX100 user. What would I buy if my LX100 died? It would be an exercise of entwined constraints: 1. budget, 2. portability, 3. susceptibility to Lens Envy (a special...

    Micro 4/3 LX 100 ii

Well Martin, as I age and find myself gathering more accoutrements (or prostheses) related increasing ā€˜maturityā€™ the adage of "less (no pun intended) is more" rings ever more true. Thanks for the suggestion but bifocal lenses with flip-up sunglasses is not in my future. Of course, in a few...

    Micro 4/3 LX 100 ii

Iā€™ve not had a touchscreen camera. I bought my LX100 mostly because it has an EVF and I use it about 99% of the time. I disliked using the screen (on previous cameras) because I had to put my reading glasses on, and I had to hold the camera away from my eyes to focus on the screen at reading...

    Micro 4/3 LX 100 ii

Iā€™m happy to see that the essence of the LX100 has been retained. Everything that makes it my ideal camera is there. The improvements are interesting, but not enough to make me jump; I'll be sticking with my LX100 for now. Had weatherproofing been added to the new feature set I would have been...

As Iā€™ve written earlier, the LX100 is not a perfect camera ā€” the perfect camera doesnā€™t exist! Iā€™ve been using this camera exclusively for about 2.5 years and Iā€™m still enjoying it and learning about it. Yes, there were times when I would have liked to have ā€˜moreā€™, like longer telephoto reach...

Micro 4/3 LX100 and the Night Sky

It will be interesting to see how the FZ1000 does. The LX100 has a larger f-stop, but astrophotography is as much about duration as lens aperture. Also, perhaps you can try a variety of settings (mono, high contrast mono, etc.) on both cameras. One thing for sure ā€” amateur astronomy is...

Micro 4/3 LX-100 Video - How to Change Settings?

I would like to help you with this but I very rarely take videos with my LX100, and when I do I donā€™t make any adjustments. But, I would suggest that you experiment with a variety of settings and see if the photo adjustments work for video also. I donā€™t know if the filters work in video mode but...

Do you see anything on the LCD at any time? After you have taken pictures, and then press the playback button, do you see the pics on the screen? Have you explored the DISP button? I use my LX100 exactly as you describe. I use the EVF to shoot, and look at the result on the LCD display...

Micro 4/3 Dust -- explicative deleted dust -- in my LX100

I have had my camera for about a year and half and I do not have dust on my sensor. It doesnā€™t mean that it will not have that problem tomorrow. Micro 4/3 No too happy with the camera

It's not just the physical size of the sensor that's important. M4/3 (1.33") is larger than a 1" sensor. Pixel density (the inverse of pixel size for a given area) is another factor, along with several others. The LX100 only uses about 12 mp of the 16 mp 4/3 sensor. The Sony has a higher pixel...

Micro 4/3 No too happy with the camera

Looking at the picture of the dog again, it seems to me that the area around his eye is sharp and clear. You didnā€™t provide exposure details but it looks like it was shot with full aperture and sufficiently high shutter speed. The lack of detail on his snout and beyond the eye is a result of...

Micro 4/3 No too happy with the camera

I agree with the comments above. The DOF seems shallow, perhaps try again with f5.6 or smaller aperture. You wrote ā€œauto mode." Did you use autofocus or manual focus? Did you use A, P, or S Mode, or iA? Either way, try confirming focus using Focus Peaking. I enjoy using the camera in full...

    Micro 4/3 LX100 - lens hood or step-up ring

Iā€™ve been using the LX100 for over a year in a wide variety of settings from in-home macros to cliff-top vistas and I have not encountered flair issues. I donā€™t use a lens hood nor filters. However, I tend to not shoot when the sun is in the viewfinder. Found that this was much more of an issue...

Micro 4/3 Got a new to me LX100, now what?

ā€œā€¦ tips ... right away.ā€ I suggest that you not use the camera in Program mode (shutter speed at A, and aperture at A). Always check that the the exposure compensation dial is at 0 before you adjust it yourself. On page 8 of the Custom settings menu, select iA as ā€œPress and Holdā€ to preclude...

Micro 4/3 Useful trick the LX100 can do

Hi Jock, If you havenā€™t done so yet, also activate focus peaking (in the custom settings menu), which enhances manual focus precision. I learned a while ago that AF usually focuses on the closest object, sometimes even if the object is not in the focus frame. By using MF, or AF + MF, and focus...

Micro 4/3 When Will Micro Four Thirds Equal Medium-Format Film?

I canā€™t understand pixel count comparisons with different film formats. I donā€™t see much discussion about the pixel density, rather than total number of pixels on a sensor. In the darkroom, I was able to get a grainier image by altering chemicals and processing times and then manipulating...

Oh yes, I see hundreds of stars now. Itā€™s nighttime, and when I turn off the room lights, after cleaning my screen, ā€” there they are! And so are the trees and power lines. I wonder how this would compare to a 20 or 40 sec. exposure?

Micro 4/3 Better auto focus options for two situations

Perhaps you can specify what numbers you used. I assume that the focal length in these tables are not ā€œequivalentā€ values. Hereā€™s the specs for focal length for the LX100 (from Panasonic): "Focal Length f = 10.9 - 34mm/(24 - 75mm in 35mm equiv in 4:3, 3:2, 16:9)/(28 - 88mm in 35mm equiv. in...

Micro 4/3 Better auto focus options for two situations

I suggest that you experiment with the camera's many features. Using DoF tables with the lens set at f1.7, and set at wide angle (24 mm equivalent), set the camera focus at 5 m. The Depth of Field will be from 2.4 m to infinity. Check out photopills.com, one of many online calculators available.

Micro 4/3 Better auto focus options for two situations

I rarely use my LX100 for video. But, perhaps you can set the aperture at f5.6, change focus to manual, and focus the camera at the hyperfocal distance, about 10 m. Theoretically, everything from about 8 m and beyond should be in focus. Auto focus usually focuses on the closest object, and...

Micro 4/3 Will the real LX100 please stand up?

The LX100 is as unique as every other camera. I've had my LX100 for a couple of months and it's been fun learning about it and how to use it. At first, I would say that this is not a beginner's camera (although I know someone who only uses it in iA mode), and certainly I'm not a beginner, having...

Micro 4/3 One thing I donā€™t like about the LX100

Hi, New member here. I can invoke HDR in A, S or P mode by first activating HDR in the main menu. I have assigned Fn1 as my HDR activation button. Once activated, the camera takes 3 shots, then combines them into one image. This is different from iHandheld Night Shot in iA mode, which is only...
