    Pentax Pentax image thread

Out and about today with my rather ancient K-S1, and my lowly manual-focus Vivitar 24mm lens. This particular shot was heavily cropped - but I'm still rather pleased (and borderline impressed) with what this old Pentax can do with an even older inexpensive film era lens.

    Pentax K-3 III Monochrome Sensor!

Good luck on whatever you decide, Andrew... and knowing you, it WILL be the right decision... for you. As a fan of your work which I've seen you produce with a variety of different cameras, I will only say that, no matter what you decide vis-a-vis keeping the Kiiimono or not, I hope you will...

Half-full or half-empty? Optimist...or pessimist? Taken with one of the thinnest pancake-style lenses I've ever had, the DA40, which in spite of its tiny footprint...renders nicely.

    Pentax Pentax MX-1 First Impression

I love these images, Andrew - and your words about them are compellingly to the point - and, in fact, echo some comments I've heard in the past from some fellow Pentaxians who said more or less the same things as you, in describing their fondness for this small camera. Looking forwards to seeing...

    Pentax Thinking about Pentax again...

You're definitely not mad if you ditch the M43 stuff. I'll echo what a few other people have said, also - the prices of some of the DA Ltds, especially the DA 21, might be much more reasonable than you suppose...especially if you are patient, and willing to wait for a good copy to turn up within...

    Pentax Pentax image thread

I find the SOOC jpegs from the KS1 somewhere between adequate, decent, and occasionally good - but never truly spectacular. They always need some work - either adjusting contrast, or exposure, or whatever. That said, the K-S1 was introduced 6 years ago and had a relatively limited selection of...

Another photo taken with my newly acquired vintage 24mm Vivitar lens. The one tricky thing to remember when "close-focusing" on subjects near to the camera lens is how narrow the depth of field becomes. I'm posting two versions of the same photo as I rather liked them both. First, the color...

    Pentax Pentax image thread

I shoot both RAW and jpeg but in my experience most Pentax RAW files are gorgeous and malleable, while the jpegs never quite measure up. I use a relatively ancient version of Lightroom - LR 6.14 - which was the last standalone version that you could install on your computer and never have to...

Based on this image, I'd say the K70 may be a keeper. It's really very good. And the 18-135 isn't too shabby at all, quite the opposite. All in all, looks like a superb small Pentax... and an excellent lens. Congrats, Jason!

Another book photograph - this one of the truly tiny (maybe 2 inches x 2 inches) book of Audubon bird paintings, that sits in a windowsill in my house, where it makes for easy reading if one is sitting nearby. Not so much reading actually, since the point of the book is looking at beautiful...

I know its my own eclectic and quirky tastes probably, but in this outstanding series of images, Andrew, my favorites are in your third post - and almost all of them have the old tunnels or relatively ancient stonework (from the late 1920s that you mentioned). Pentax The Pentax K-7 experience, so far

Congrats on the whole thing, Jens. And a minor note-- I think the DA21 is one of the finest prime lenses for ANY camera system, Pentax or otherwise. I'm liking the shots you are taking with it quite a bit, so far -- and am looking forwards to seeing more from the K7 + DA21 combination.

    Pentax Pentax K10D or K200D?

The problem as I see it is, most of the Pentaxes you mention on your relatively short list, are (almost) all beautifully built cameras, with a very very nice "in-hand" feel, and all are capable of taking relatively superb pictures. Among my best images over the years, were a handful taken with a...

Pentax The Pentax K10D experience (so far).

Do you have a follow-up report on the focus problems that you experienced earlier with your K10d, Jens? I'm simply curious... And - a related question - did your "inbound" DA 21mm lens arrive? And if so, have you tried it out with the K10d - and what are your impressions?

Pentax The Pentax K10D experience (so far).

I'm puzzled by your focusing problems, Jens, and also by the 'softness'. I shot for some time, years ago, with the 18-55 kit lens, on the K10d's sibling, the K200d, and in general the pictures I got with it tended to be much more than acceptably sharp. My biggest gripe with the lens was the...

    Pentax Thinking about Pentax

    Pentax Thinking about Pentax

With its relatively superlative CCD sensor, the K10d has a reputation among Pentaxians for being one of the great older cameras. Plus, though they seem large, they somehow seem to fit surprisingly well in a photographer's hands. (As do many Pentaxes.) Wouldn't be a bad camera to pick up, at all.

Pentax Pentax KP (and the system) from fresh perspective

If you find the viewfinder small, there is one accessory that may help - the Pentax Magnifying eyecup (Pentax part # O-ME53). It magnifies the viewfinder image by a factor of 1.18 - which results in an image which is slightly larger - but, in my admittedly subjective opinion, one which is...

    Pentax Pentax KP

I no longer have it, Mike - but during the time I did have and use it, it was and is a phenomenal camera - both in terms of build, of feel - and also the quality of some of the Pentax DA Limited lenses. In terms of my subjective ratings of 'build quality', it is and was one of the two best-built...

    Pentax Thinking about Pentax

I'll echo what others have said about the K-70: it metaphorically punches far above its weight, and everything about it seems to fall into a phtographer's hands, nicely. Surprisingly, its cheaper sibling, the K-S2, also is a great (and generally underrated) camera. If my memory serves me right...
