I found your problem under the menu for ISO you cant be in multi frame wich is iso auto, you can be in auto, but not iso auto.

G o into your menu and turn off all noise reduction settings.

I did what you just said, hit the left rear control dial and was taken to the drive menu and can select any setting, I also use the 2 second mode a lot. Maybe there is a way of resetting your camera, because the MIII can do this, as mine is.

I can select drive mode on my Rx100 mIII, I am in manual, I hit the FN button and I can change the drive mode to all the given settings. So, something isn't quite right with your camera.

I agree, this drab, dull, lack of color and no sharpness of a camera really sucks, Sony shafted me when they conn'd me into the Rx100 mIII, Hate it. I'll force myself to live with it for awhile until I can sucker some fool into buying it from me.

I find my Rx100 mIII has a shutter button. I press shutter button and image shows up. I love it, and I love the wide 24mm, more Rx100 mIII for me.

I always shoot my Rx1 in manual as I want full control of all settings, and I can quickly change aperature, shutter speed and iso as light conditions change, I have NEVER missed a shot due to having to change settings, the Rx1 is a extension of my hand...for me, it's always full manual control...

I have never encountered this Nasty jpeg engine in my rx1, not even 'at times', after many thousands of shots, my son whom is darn good at photoshop and loves raw has battled with LR and PS trying to get a raw file to match the jpegs we see. I'll take this a step further, they are the best...
