Sony huge price jump on RX1R II

It's no mystery. It's simply currency adjustments. The Yen is up against the Dollar 20% in the last year. Correspondingly, the price is up 20% in the last year. Similarly, the Yen is also up against the Euro. I guess it took 2 mins for this explanation to sink in from when we discussed it...

    Sony Sony RX100 IV announced.

Drives are cheap. :) I've been there for years already. I shoot 3 brackets RAW. So every time I snap a shot, I think of it as 100MB. I can easily hit the shutter 10 times a minute. I do think continuous photography is the future. There have probably been discussions like this every time...

    Sony Sony RX100 IV announced.

Sony does a variety of things with stacked sensors. Everything from increased sensitivity, to PDAF support to full RGB processing like Foveon. In this case, I think it only increased sensitivity. I think of it as BSI 2. Video is very important to me. So 4K is big. But even if you don't do...

    Sony Sony RX100 IV announced.

It's a monster. 4K video, upgraded EVF and a stacked sensor. But $1000 for a P&S camera.... Whew. Sony RX100 IV compact records 4K video, uses a stacked sensor

    Sony RX100 III or G7X?

I think Canon did try to differentiate itself with the lens. But there are compromises. It's not just that it doesn't cover the sensor, it's also that the distortion at the edges seems to be more than the RX100. Cropping the sensor to extend focal length is something Canon has done before...

    Sony RX100 III or G7X?

I would go check the PowerShot forum at dpreview. There are a lot of threads talking about the G7X right now, many comparing it to the RX100. One that stands out for me is the one that shows that the lens on the G7X doesn't cover the entire sensor. So the G7X crops the center 18MP and then...

Sony Sony Canada jumped the gun, they already have the RX100M3 on their website.

DPR has put up it's studio shots. I didn't think it would be, but the RX100M3 has decidedly better IQ than the original RX100. It's all about the lens. In the center, it's not all that different. As you move off center, it becomes more obvious. It's been an evolution. The RX10 is better...

Sony Sony Canada jumped the gun, they already have the RX100M3 on their website.

You need to login and add the item to your cart to see the lower price. That DPR thread I posted earlier talks about it. I didn't know that the RX100M2 was also $299. That would have been a really good deal. Re: Just got a refurbished rx100 from the sonystore: Sony Cyber-shot Talk Forum...

Sony Sony Canada jumped the gun, they already have the RX100M3 on their website.

You know, once you look past the flashy new features like the EVF and the faster lens. There are actually some other very nice things. The M3 has 5 axis IBIS and full sensor readout video. That video is now at twice the bitrate of the older models.

Sony is selling the RX100 refurbished for $250. The stock is spotty. Whenever it becomes available, it sells out quickly. As reported on DPR, it was back in stock yesterday. Just got a refurbished rx100 from the sonystore: Sony Cyber-shot Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review I already...

Sony Sony Canada jumped the gun, they already have the RX100M3 on their website.

Everyone was saying that they didn't see how it could have a builtin flash and a popup EVF. But they sacrificed the hot shoe and used that space for the flash. Also that popup EVF looks like it pops out too.

    Sony Rx100m3

The form factor is what makes the RX100 a hit. Otherwise people can get a CSC for the same amount of money or less. There's too much unknown about the P8000 like the spec of the sensor. It could be the 14MP sensor they recently announced or it could be a clone of the Sony sensor in the RX100...

    Sony Rx100m3

I don't think the texture will be different from current ones, that's why they are also releasing a new handgrip sticker to go with it. To me, size is king if it was so much bigger as not to be pocketable, then I might as well carry around a NEX. I really don't think that will be the case...

    Sony Rx100m3

From what we know from the manual diagrams right now, it's basically a halfway zoom RX10 shoved into a RX100 sized body. No word on how good the EVF is yet. We'll know for sure on Thursday. Sony has gotten really good about keeping a lid on these things. It's like Apple levels of secrecy...

    Sony Rx100m3

It appears not much bigger at all. Basically the same size. Some of the Sony manuals already have diagrams of it. The telling one is for the new handgrip sticker. The current sticker is not supposed to fit anymore, but the new sticker is supposed to fit the M3 and the older models. From the...

    Sony Rx100m3

I'm surprised no one has started a thread about this yet. Supposedly it will be announced this Thursday, May 1st. It will have a new 28-100mm F1.8-F2.8 lens and an EVF. Those are significant upgrades. Some people have even speculated that it would have the new curved sensor. But Sony has...

    Sony Who doesn't have a RX100?

I was out snapping today. I noticed that someone else was using a RX100. I see people using one all the time now. She was in a group of 4 people. So I said "Hey, you have an RX100 too." She said it was a great camera, who doesn't have one? 3 other people in her group of 4 had RX100's too...

Sony Saw my first RX1 out in the wild.

Yesterday, I saw the first person to actually use a RX1 in the wild. It was even a RX1R. I told him it was a great camera. He said the Alpha 7 is better. My informal survey of what cameras people use while travelling has changed. NEX is way up. As in way up. About the same number of...

Sony what camera bag do you use for your RX?

I use a Lowepro Newport 10. It fits the RX100 and HX20V like a glove. I can even still wedge it in my pocket. A nice thing about this case is that it's semi rigid in the front. There's a panel of plastic there. It's flexible yet offers more protection. A problem is that the zipper is...

Sony How would you best describe the Rx100's IQ?

I thought we were talking about Panasonic sensors. The Olympus E-PM2 uses a Sony sensor. I posted earlier that Sony sensored M43 cameras have a 1 stop advantage on the RX100. Otherwise, they are very similar with the RX100 having the advantage in resolution. DR wise the Sony sensored M43...

Sony How would you best describe the Rx100's IQ?

I thought we were talking about the latest Panasonic sensors. Compared to the older Panasonic M43 sensors the RX100 devastates, particularly at high ISO. Those older Panasonic sensors are not very good by current standards.
  34. L

Sony How would you best describe the Rx100's IQ?

Take a NEX and subtract 2 stops of ISO performance. Or take a Sony sensored M43 camera and subtract 1 stop of ISO performance. I consider it the equal of a modern Panasonic sensored M43 camera.

    Sony Best compliment to RX100ii?

That's the way I went. My compliment to the RX100 is a HX20V. I thus have a wide focal range covered. The HX20V is my long lens.

Sony Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX50V Review - Not Too Shabby :-)

Sue, to be clear, you're talking only about the LCD display on the back and not the pictures it takes right? I've tried the HX50V and I am very impressed by it. You will not get a better superzoom in a package that small. It's only a little bigger than the RX100 and has a 30X optical zoom...

    Sony RX100 II review

Anyone looking to buy this, Rakuten is giving back 30% in Rakuten points. Those points have to be spent at Rakuten within 60 days but it's worth over $200 if you buy the RX100M2 there. So if you are planning to buy something else too, it's not a bad way to go. If the GX1 comes back for $199...

In some markets, like Canada, the M2 shipped a while ago. The US is lower on the delivery schedule now for some reason. Here's another user sample of the IQ. There's a pattern setting up. The M2 has lower IQ at low ISO than the classic. It's high ISO IQ is better. It maybe simply that...

Sony High ISO comparison between RX100 and RX100M2.

The ISO 25600 multi frame shot from the RX100M2 is the clencher. It's usable. The RX100 shot isn't. Since it's mostly software, I hope Sony provides an update to the RX100 with the new JPEG engine used in the RX100M2...

    Sony RX100 II review

I think the desire for for a small body and a brighter lens are mutually exclusive. The tilt LCD only makes the body 2.4mm thicker, if that makes it too big.. I don't think Sony will be able to make the lens brighter yet keep the same body size.

Sony Sony RX100M2 MSRP is $750.

But that's always been the case. Best Buy sells the NEX 3N for $450 side by side with the RX100 at $650. Yet the RX100 still sells like hotcakes. It's the same reason people buy an OMD for more than a Canon t4i. It's all about size. I don't think $750 is too steep. It's only $100 more...

    Sony RX100 II review

Depends on the price. For the price I got my RX100 for, no. If I was in the market and the RX100 is $650 and the RX100M2 is $750, it's a no brainer to pay an extra $100 fo the M2. As predicted, the new sensor is twice as sensitive as the old. "Sony's claims of a full 1-stop improvement...

Sony Sony RX100M2 MSRP is $750.

Maybe Sony will be selling both the RX100 and RX100M2 at the same time. It's very un Sony to have a "Mk II" and a replacement model at a different price than the model it replaces. Generally a replacement model will have a new designation and at the same price point as the old model. (SR5)...

You'll love the RX100. I would definitely get something to improve the grip. Otherwise, it's a slippery little thing. I use a leather skin now. Before I used a piece of electrical tape.
