It's a shame Nikon doesn't make something like that anymore. With a modern sensor and autofocus performance it would make for a nice alternative to the Leica Q's or Richoh GR's with that same field of view.

A hot shoe adapter with PC connector, to enable off-camera flash with my old Minolta 200X flash and the Leica Q3. I also used a Nikon AS-15 adapter on the camera, a PC extension cord and a male-male PC cord. Had to try several before I found a combo that actually worked; these PC connectors are...

Totally agree. I think it's the smallest lens available for Sony E-mount (APS-C), ideal for street photography. I rebought it after the first sample's focusing mechanism broke, I now mainly use it for infrared photography on a full-spectrum A3000.

I read that too. I have experimented extensively with f/2.8 at ISO 100 and it just doesn't work. At shorter distances the picture is almost completely dark with these settings. I tried if any of the other settings (manual output, S1/off/S2) made any difference, they didn't. Edit: meanwhile, on...

Yes, it's a nice little flash. The Auto setting is indeed supposed to be the ancient type where a sensor on the flash reads the output and cuts off the current through the flash bulb once the exposure is correct. Too bad it doesn't work correctly. At shorter distances (somewhere below 2 m) it...

A small Godox flash, the Retro Lux Junior. It features manual settings for output 1/1...1/64 and also an Auto setting. Can be synched to another flash on its first or second flash. A cord for sync, enabling off-camera use as well. I instantly would fire the moron who designed the Auto circuit...

I still have the Contax 2.8/28mm and I use it when I want this focal length on my Sony FF cameras, as there are no native high-quality options IMHO, though I didn't try the Viltrox FE 1.8/28 yet. I've long given up hope that Zeiss would bring a Loxia 28mm .

A Leica USB-C dual battery charger, shown here with the Anker power bank and its USB-C cable. Leica also offers a matching cable and a mains power supply as separate products, at Leica prices of course; fortunately I already have loads of compatible chargers and cables. This charger allows me to...

An angled USB-C adapter. Got this one to charge the Leica Q3 while sitting in the bag. A normal USB-C plug sticks out and would be prone to damage itself and the camera if under pressure from something. This adapter fits nicely on the Q3's USB-C port and has the appropriate Power Delivery...

GAS GAS: Please share your latest near acquisitions - a.k.a. "what did you ALMOST buy"

One month ago I made a bid on a Voigtländer FE 1.4/35 because I wanted to experience the character of the lens. The seller didn't pay attention to my message until now. I told him that other purchases depleted my budget for now. In reality I don't know that I really want it besides my Zeiss...

Just curious: your most fun DSLR to shoot?

I moved from Nikon DSLRs to mirrorless with the Panasonic G1. I was over the moon with joy to find that the G1's autofocus was so reliable that I didn't feel the need to check sharpness after a shot. The Nikon D200 and D300s frustrated the hell out of me. Some lenses would misfocus with the D200...

A USB-C tester, to check on voltage, current and capacity of powerbanks. Only € 15 on Amazon. Happy to...

Didn't see the point in getting the Q2 instead of the Q3. Either way it's a boatload of money to spend on a camera, so I figured I should go for the latest and (hopefully) greatest.

I bought a Pentacon 3.5/30 in M42 mount recently. That thing is sharp in the center and the left half of the frame; the right half is really unsharp. Totally unuseable in my book. But hey, if you like imperfect lenses, that Pentacon 2.8/29 may very well fit the bill ;).

My latest acquisition. Made by Komine according to the serial number. Wonderful mechanics, image quality seems OK judged from a few test shots; lots of purple fringing at apertures wider than f/5.6.

A Pentacon 3.5/30, just for the fun of trying out a 30mm prime with range focusing. First test shots show a fairly pronounced amount of sharpness asymmetry, much less sharp on the right side.

    GAS Dear Giary!

After experimenting a lot with films and developers, I ended up using Microphen with Ilford FP4 and HP5 in my B&W film days. And Microphen is so resilient that I could keep it in 1 litre glass bottles, taking out 125 ml each time until the bottle was empty and that could easily take several...

    GAS Dear Giary!

In my B&W film days I bought yellow filters for all my lenses and they were on them by default. I'd sometimes switch to orange or red for more dramatic effects. Problem was, in my home town skies were hardly ever a clear blue except in the Philips holidays, enough to prevent dramatic sky...

Fuji PRF-49S Protector Filter. Fuji recommends this filter to ensure weater-resistance of the X100V, in combination with the filter adapter AR-X100. Another Sony 2.8/20. My first one broke: from one shot to the other the autofocus suddenly stopped working and buzzed for seconds after switch-on. Picked up an L-plate annex hand grip for the X100V, the JJC HG-X100V. Probably won't use it much, but it came cheap. When mounted, it allows opening the battery/SD-card door, unlike the generic Arca-Swiss tripod plates I have. Hmm. Maybe I should have blown off the dust on the filter...

Boring purchase: used battery charger Fuji BC-W126S for the X100V batteries. Well, not really "used", it came totally unused in its pristine box for half the price when new. It's my second external charger for the X100V, I easily go through two batteries on a somewhat extended trip.

The Voigtländer FE Apo-Lanthar 2/35. Excellent lens, but I didn't use it much. If I took a manual-focus 35mm lens on an outing, it would be the Zeiss Loxia despite its lesser performance at wide apertures; I actually like what it does there. So out went the Apo-Lanthar. Lens gallery

You can always add a neutral density filter to the lens. A 8x (3 stops) should do the job and the 49mm ones aren't very expensive; I often buy these used.
