Leica Showcase Canon 135 F3.5, Late version

The differences between various lens formulas goes well beyond the number of elements and groups. The relative strength of the elements and groups is more important than the number. The Sonnar has a telephoto lens as the front section, followed by an anastigmat for the rear section. The focal...

    Leica Showcase Leica M9/M9P

I did another set of pictures of a UV light to demonstrate a point on RFF. For the Leica M9, M-E, and M Monochrom: I have Good news and Bad news! The Good News: the camera uses a scientific grade CCD and can be used for UV Photography. The Bad News: If you want to shoot Visible Only, use a UV...

Leica Showcase Minolta Chiyoko 8.5cm F2.8 in Leica Thread Mount

This is a nice lens. The optical formula is "just Different", a suped-up Cooke Triplet. Minolta lenses of the late 1940s were "just different" optically, well worth looking for if you like unique.

    Leica Showcase Jupiter 8

1957 was a great year for me. Don't remember too much, but before that- absolutely nothing. I'll have to pull out the very special 1957 J-8 that I have, one converted from Contax mount- predecessor to the J8M.

    Leica Showcase Jupiter 8

I'll probably modify the J-8 early next year- and will document the process. This one-off was done trial and error on the fly, required some longer set screws to hold the focus ring on after re-indexing it.

    Leica Showcase Jupiter 8

I modified this one for 0.65m RF coupled focus. You intentionally misassemble the Helical so that the near/far stops are exchanged. Them re-index all the scales, and file down the threads for the RF Follower. I sold this one to someone that used it more than it would get with me. I built another...

Leica Showcase Minolta Chiyoko 8.5cm F2.8 in Leica Thread Mount

I've restore the images to this thread, and am updating it with some pictures from the M240 with this lens, all wide-open. Cooke Triplets have a renewed interest. Meyer Optik Gorlitz brought back the Trioplan for $999. TTArtisans has the 100mm F2.8 Triplet in M42 mount and Leica M-Mount for much...

Leica Showcase Voigtlander 50mm F1 Nokton

. On the Leica M240. All Wide-open, focus using the rangefinder. I have the EVF- used it for some shots, but focus is easier with the RF.

    Leica Showcase 7Artisans 75mm F1.25

7Art 75mm F1.25, wide-open on the M240. This lens is perfect for fast, low light scenes with a Leica Rangefinder. All using the Rangefinder, not the EVF. Easier to frame and follow the subject with the optical viewfinder.

All wide-open. It has an aperture ring. I used it. But not for these. Medium Yellow for all pictures.

    Leica Showcase TTArtisans 50mm F0.95

At 1m, Good resolution test, all shots at F0.95. I use a 1.25x magnifier for this lens, as I do with most of my Fast optics.

Resistance is Futile. I like fast lenses. This one was $550 from Popflash, one of the best camera dealers in the country. I've bought and sold on consignment through them. This is the "Titanium" finish version, which has a 62mm filter ring- as opposed to the 67mm filter of the standard lens...

    Leica Showcase 7Artisans 50mm F1.1 M-Mount lens

I caved in. Popflash had the TTArtisans Titanium version for $550. That is cheap- 50mm F0.95, Aspheric design and RF coupled. I will post back on the 50/0.95 and the 90/1.5 Speedmaster- the two lenses for under $1K.

Leica Showcase Leica M8 and M8.2 Using M8Raw2dng

My friend has an M8, and has been using the Button Dance and M8RAW2DNG. Discovered he had a hot pixel and a hot column. I modified the code I use for the M Monochrom to correct the .DNG file as output by M8RAW2DNG. I also left the Gamma Curve option in, not knowing what it would do to the colors...

    Leica Showcase Leica M8 / M8.2

I use M8RAW2DNG and the button dance whenever shooting low-light, the color noise present in the native compressed DNG files is greatly reduced. ISO1250 equiv, shoot at ISO160 and push 3 stops. ISO2500 equiv- shoot ISO160 and Push 4 stops in post.

    Leica Showcase 7Artisans 75mm F1.25

I like this lens. On the Leica M9, all shots wide-open using a 1.25x magnifier. I focus as the subject is moving, pan with the subject through the exposure. ISO 2500, 1/60th second. This lens is surprisngly easy to focus on a moving subject. A "medium" focus throw. This lens is ~$450, 75mm...

Things will come back down again. Not sure what the bubble is. Prices dropped 40% as soon as the M9 was introduced. After that- dropped to $1500 and $1250. I guess there was no problem with the cover glass corroding, and the CCDs did not have the cracking problem of the M9. Then- CCD cameras are...

I picked up another 1952 KMZ 5cm F1.5 J-3, this time in Contax/Kiev mount. I bought a 1964 ZOMZ that turned out to be in a LMZ LM mount, and the focus was way off. So I switched them. This is ont of the best Jupiter-3s that I've ever seen, and I have seen hundreds. Wide-Open on the M8, UV/IR Cut...

Leica Showcase Voigtlander 50mm F1.2 Nokton Aspheric

Lesson Learned on this lens: DO NOT CODE AS A LEICA 50/1.2 Noctilux! The Noctilux suffers from pronounced Barrel Distortion. The Nokton shows slight pincushion distortion, corrected using "-2" of Lightroom for manual distortion correction. If you apply the Noctilux Profile: You get Severe...

That will require you to unscrew the barrel from the focus mount; remove retaining ring that the shims sit on- 1 screw. Be sure to Mark the orientation of the ring, I use an arrow. Unscrew the retaining ring, then take out the screw that links the aperture ring to the underlying mechanism...

I kept my M9 at firmware release 1.176 until it needed to go to Leica for CCD replacement. It came back with a clean sensor and crappy firmware that about 1 in 5 shots hangs up cocking the shutter until the write buffer had flushed. Leica originally used an Aerospace company to develop their...
