    Leica Q3 - 60mp

Does this matter? this lens swipes the floors with every fast 28mm out there, with the exception of Leica's own Summilux 28mm... Depends on what you prefer on a lens, of course. For cinematic stuff, the Q is just an absurdly fine kit. And if Leica runs out of money they'll put up a new line of...

    L-Mount L-mount pictures, open thread

Sounds like the same story with M4/3 Panasonic lenses! The 25/1.7 was a bitter disappointment when the 12-32 could do so well at 25mm. And the 20-60 is also somewhat weather sealed. Not bad at all.

Leica Leica revives the film camera and a classic lens

I don't quite see what M6 offers over current film bodies MP or MA. Just the iconic model recognition? The 35 'lux is wonderful. Preowned 35mm Summiluxes have skyrocketed in price in the recent years.

Wouldn't a title by the lines of "L-mount pictures" be better than singling out Panasonic S? :D

Leica Got an email from Leica ~ M11 teaser?

Impressive base ISO performance, very damn impressive. Such a good landscape camera. It's potentially a camera you can leave at base ISO and just shoot "normal" shutter speeds and push the files at intended exposure at post -- even at night. Of course you lose pic review in the process.

Leica Got an email from Leica ~ M11 teaser?

I noticed yet another M11 opinion piece on DPR. Titled in a way that I first thought was a clickbait hottake, the author Richard Butler has instead opened up some rather insightful points about the new mechanisms and tangents of M11...

Leica Got an email from Leica ~ M11 teaser?

This would work for me. The folks over at LUF named this wishlist item, "Sunny 16 mode". Overall, the fans there have generally started to joke about M11 being aimed to landscapers now. The sensor certainly tolerates it a bit if you make a mistake in your exposure. While everyone assures that...

Leica Got an email from Leica ~ M11 teaser?

Overgaard's text I read this morning and now Jono Slack's review both say the same: "now metering is only via sensor, [full time]" I guess Leica had enough of people who don't understand the classic center-weighted metering and now caved into catering the lower common denominator...

Leica Got an email from Leica ~ M11 teaser?

In less than 10 minutes the announcement should begin at What makes a Legend - Save the date | Leica Camera AG I think at the same time Jono Slack's review will be up. Perhaps some others too? Oh, it's already up. Leica M11

Leica Got an email from Leica ~ M11 teaser?

Overgaard's first page of M11 review is out, unintended or not. A big revelation is that the classic metering is out?! It's all on-sensor now. I don't know what to think about this. At least the battery is supposed to last up to 1700 shots if shot in M-D fashion, 700 with normal LCD usage...

Leica Got an email from Leica ~ M11 teaser?

M10-P - 7777 € (Retailer 1) M10-R - 7999 € (Retailer 1) M10-R BP - 8150 € (Retailer 2; sold out) M11 - 8350 € perhaps? The thing is that since the models are going to be very close to each other, I'd probably go for the older one used for great savings. But M10R is a very recent model...

Leica Got an email from Leica ~ M11 teaser?

Yeah no. Because they slimmed M10 down to film body dimensions, the battery life had to suffer. I also love my M240's battery life. Although my batteries are pretty worn. But now that M11 is here soon, it means only one thing: M11P will be here in two years! Should I start saving now? 😎
  14. mike3996

Leica Got an email from Leica ~ M11 teaser?

Don't forget why they even did the base plate away. To fit a larger battery inside. M10 battery life is poor when compared to what M240 can do. Hopefully M11 can reach the M240's level again.
  15. mike3996

Leica Got an email from Leica ~ M11 teaser?

Not at all. The base plate isn't a big deal. Interesting specs on that leak. Composited from various sources I understand, so not conclusive. The mechanical 1/14000 must be a typo. Electronic shutter sounds welcome. There's a good chance there's also EFCS then, although knowing Leica they...

Leica Got an email from Leica ~ M11 teaser?

https://photographylife.com/reviews/nikon-d850/4 Interesting text about downsampled raw files of Nikon D850. Perhaps this gives you appetite (or lets you manage your expectations) wrt what Leica M11 is rumored to have.

Leica Got an email from Leica ~ M11 teaser?

Agreed. It definitely feels on the side of overhyping the whole release when they're known for conservative, incremental upgrades.

Leica The battle of ultrafast Fifties: TTartisan 50/0.95 vs Summilux 50 ASPH

One final unfair comparison. Leica Summilux wide open at f/1.4 vs TTArtisan wide open at f/0.95. Heavy crops around the focused object. A little straightening, a LUT to turn things B&W. Nothing else done. Here I think the Karbe design really shows his genius. The Leica lens somehow is...

Leica The battle of ultrafast Fifties: TTartisan 50/0.95 vs Summilux 50 ASPH

Yes with this latest batch of photos I noticed the magenta cast. Funny I didn't before. Maybe it was because they were shot in dark conditions mostly.

Leica The battle of ultrafast Fifties: TTartisan 50/0.95 vs Summilux 50 ASPH

Another set of samples. TTa at apertures 0.95 and 1.4, Leica at 1.4. Which is which, I let you decide. Here the extra stop has a little something to show.

Leica The battle of ultrafast Fifties: TTartisan 50/0.95 vs Summilux 50 ASPH

New stroll, new battleground, new battles. This is between TTArtisan 50/0.95 (shot at f/1.4) and Leica Summilux-M 50/1.4 ASPH (wide open at f/1.4) as before. Lots of snow that may hide imperfections but light was otherwise perfect for conducting studies. I was able to shoot wide open and it...

Leica Got an email from Leica ~ M11 teaser?

Some leaked photos of the M11 offer very little new and exciting over the M10. This is to be expected of course, from Leica. Eagerly waiting for the release and the usual early reviews from Jonathan Slack and others. For me, maybe the most important thing about M11 over M10R is that M11 will...

Leica Digital Darkroom Derby #004 (Closed - Winner Announced)

Darktable 3.8 finally opens CR3 files. That feature arrived in the Christmas release a week ago. Just in the nick of time! Darktable, my "silver bw" approach and then local spot highlights. The composition itself has all the leading lines needed, this is just extra gravy.

Leica The battle of ultrafast Fifties: TTartisan 50/0.95 vs Summilux 50 ASPH

And another scene shortly after where TTA shows some flare it didn't exhibit before. But like said, the flare doesn't occur very often. Maybe it's just a far corner issue? I haven't shot much but this behavior has been far more common (also shot at f/0.95 and not f/1.4).

Leica The battle of ultrafast Fifties: TTartisan 50/0.95 vs Summilux 50 ASPH

Breezy -10 C weather (14 F) and a little bit of powder snow falling. Black ice. Supper slippery at places. Didn't want to make a single step before securing my precious cargo in Billingham and fastening the straps. My own freezeproofing has gone with the age. Or I am just out of practice. Move...

Leica The battle of ultrafast Fifties: TTartisan 50/0.95 vs Summilux 50 ASPH

Request acknowledged. Spring is 5 months that a-way but naked birches are more torturous anyway. Pine evergreens should be doable. Thanks to Christmas break, will be at least two weeks before I can get more results, but I welcome suggestions and wishes.

Leica The battle of ultrafast Fifties: TTartisan 50/0.95 vs Summilux 50 ASPH

I made some quick shots around the house with the TTArtisan 50/0.95 choked to f/1.4 and the Summilux 50/1.4 wide open. The results may impress you. In the bokeh department it is difficult to force the lenses render differently! In some results not pictured, the TTArtisan lens may suffer...

Leica Got an email from Leica ~ M11 teaser?

I'd also like it very much if the M11 came with a 24-megapixel chip. But it is also a fact that with other variables kept the same, having more megapixels doesn't exactly hurt the image. This subject was thoroughly explored by reviewers when the 40-megapixel M10R came out. If the camera indeed...

Leica Got an email from Leica ~ M11 teaser?

I find the rumors about 60 megapixels hard to believe. The another bit of rumors about Leica offering reduced raw sizes like Canon once did in their cameras, reads much like wishful thinking. Would be cool to have both 20 and 60 megapixel cameras all in one. :)

    Leica Leica SL2 - s

Would that be so? Is the Sony something you can't part with? If not, perhaps get the Q2 and decide over time which to keep.

    Leica Leica SL2 - s

I reckon, at least speaking for myself, shooting moving targets Leica M wins any manually-focused mirrorless camera. How do you think you do better with? M or SL, shooting action?
  34. mike3996

    Leica Leica SL2 - s

Are these out-of-camera JPEGs? :) Congrats on the acquisition. I've been eyeing the same model, not to replace my M heaven forbid, but to perhaps replace a more expensive upgrade within M lineup.

    Leica 50mm woes

It was described as being "modded" so perhaps someone took extra steps ensuring the adapter won't come off or they changed the mount.

    Leica 50mm woes

Now there's a Canon 50/1.2 LTM-modified-to-M-mount in my neck of woods. The ask isn't bad but I don't know. :) Add: it sold quickly.

    Leica 50mm woes

How's flare? A lot what you describe seems to apply my 50 Heliar which has the sole fault of having pretty bad flare resistance. :) Would be interesting to arrange a comparative shootout.

    Leica 50mm woes

So, is the Leica 50 Summicron suddenly feeling threatened or what? :) You mentioned in the other post that it finds a new place on a secondary camera but do you think, based on these initial impressions, that the Apo will provide enough features, opticala performance and character to take over...

Leica Leica M9P in the eyes of a M240P shooter

Tripod's the right way to go. Inspired from a shot, I got myself a new tripod and a nice Arca-Swiss L bracket for my M. But I knew before receiving the tripod that I'm not the kind of person to stroll around with a tripod. Just doesn't fit my style and as much as I appreciate the reasons...

Leica Leica M9P in the eyes of a M240P shooter

Yes, focus is no different but framing is. There's often talk about how M9 framelines are calibrated to be accurate at 1 meter distance and M240 went (back?) to the 2 meter standard. I've grown with the M240 framelines and they feel natural to me. I'd go quite often to 6400 and possibly up...

Leica Leica M9P in the eyes of a M240P shooter

One of the slight issues with M240 is the poor-ish high ISO capability. The banding that gets visible by ISO 6400 or equivalent. Would be nice to have banding-free sensitivities up to ISO 12500 or equivalent. I reckon M10 gets around to that point? The M10R might be able to sustain banding-free...

Leica Leica M9P in the eyes of a M240P shooter

My manual metering technique is clumsy and relies on fluent picture reviews. In this regard the M9P's older tech caused a bit of a slowdown. Another way the camera requires more deliberation are the framelines that are calibrated differently from M240/M10. Maybe the framing could be learned over...

Leica Leica M9P in the eyes of a M240P shooter

Many people get into Leica M when they want to slown down their photography and study the moment more carefully. I didn't quite take my MP240 that way. I noticed how fast it is to focus through the rangefinder and the Leica suddenly was my speed demon, for a well balanced combination of focus...

Leica Leica M9P in the eyes of a M240P shooter

I have held an M10P in my hands. Fired the shutter a few times but haven't walked with it or anything. So unfortunately can't say I have any real experience on the camera. I have a new friend in town who owns one but is covid-shy at the moment. It's nice. Very nice. But it's definitely not...

Leica Leica M9P in the eyes of a M240P shooter

The beginning of September marks the time when hundreds of thousands get their tax refunds. The extra bit of money is extra income for many. Fuel to power distant dreams. The buyer of my Leica M9-P was one such man. A very joyous fellow who like me tasted the red (dot) apple with Leica Q and...

Leica Leica M9P in the eyes of a M240P shooter

So far it's been quiet on the markets. No worries. Today on a stroll I started to suspect that the vertical alignment on the rangefinder patch might be a smidgen off. That would explain how the viewfinder seems so hard to read sometimes, compared to M240. Something to do the next week...

Leica Leica M9P in the eyes of a M240P shooter

I feel so terrible about thinking about making hasty decisions... But maybe I'll put the camera back for sale. Might be a while before someone comes and buys it. There is no honey moon period for M9 simply because the experience is all familiar to me already. It's a good experience to be...

Leica Leica M9P in the eyes of a M240P shooter

I realize that M9 is a special camera to many. It has a 2016 sensor with paperwork so it should be set for a long time. But I have my reservations still. A tad cheap feeling in hand compared to M240 and the ISO performance at 2500 is worse than I hoped. These are still my early impressions...
