Went to the Sacramento Zoo and ran into this guy again, but I had my long zoom on and it was a bit too long to get him in one shot, so this is kind of a "parts panorama" lol

Visited the Sacramento Zoo yesterday. Here's a giraffe family with a newish baby. The baby was giving me side-eye, but the momma was watching me really carefully (not shown). Maybe she carries genetic memories of hunters pointing other long things at her kind 😿

I was going to refute this claim, because I happen to know the closest DNA relative to the elephant is actually the rock hyrax...until I looked it up and found that "dassie" is the South African name for rock hyrax 😺
