    Then there was light

Thanks everyone for your kind words. It was indeed a spectacular sight. Glad I did not have to use the Australian word for eraser. Would have resulted in some confusion in the other English speaking countries. (forgive me if I am speaking Martian; That story was told to me many years ago by a...

Beautiful series, Nick. When we go back to Tasmania, we'll include the track in our plans! What is the name of the white trees w/o the leaves?

    Animals Tasmanian Devil

I used that word based on a discussion with one of the keepers in the sanctuary. Indeed, she also said that it was possible that animals got used to each other which would make mating easier. But...this was only a 2 hour visit so I fully believe. Thank you for adding your remark and the link...

    Animals Tasmanian Devil

Tasmanian Devil If you are like me, you may have heard of the Tasmanian Devil but are wondering what kind of animal it is. So I thought to do a little write-up based on a visit to a TD Sanctuary in Cradle Mountain National Park. A nice hairy animal or a devil? If you see this photo, you...

    Bugs Butterfly Garden (image heavy)

I went to the butterfly garden this morning to check if on-camera flash + softbox would work (a macro flash kit is pretty expensive!). Camera: Nikon D750. Most shots were taken with 105mm. A few with 70-200 f4. Postprocessing: primarily standard or vivid camera profile - some clarity - s-tone...

First shots with Zeiss APO Sonnar 135mm f2 I got my new Zeiss 135mm APO Sonnar lens today together with the serviced X-T1 and took the opportunity to take a few quick shots to get a first impression. A descent report will follow later but I am rather pleased.

Desert in the Spring, our time to shine. NEX-6 and 45mm Rokkor

Just saw it in your location data (couldn't see it it in the SC app on the ipad. That's why I asked the question. Sorry for asking the obvious) I love Arizona ever since my daughter went to school there. Your photos tell me to go back during this time of the year. It is very beautiful.

    sadness of the trees

Cool thread! Thought to add some of my favorite "mood tree" shots: an old one taken with a little compact many years ago expressing sadness and hope (to me, at least): I believe the official term is "sad tree" (a literal translation of the Dutch word "treur wilg".

    Fall's last hurrah.

Nice set, Carl. #3 is my favourite. I think light, color, contrast, lines, compositional balance, subject (isolation) and the idea align very well in this photo. A good idea to take only half of the first tree because this way it draws attention to the colourful tree. The lines in the land...

    Scottish highlanders in the Netherlands

Thanks, Ruby! Perhaps I should buy a kilt. It wasn't possible to focus on the eyes w/o focus peaking and I just did not have the time/patience to do that. I used f/8 to get sufficient DoF so the eyes would probably have been sharp in #3, if they would have been visible. The cow just did not...
