Still in Bottesford, trying out my 10 stop ND filter with the Fuji 8mm lens, so this is a 30s exposure to try to blur the clouds. There was vignetting due to the filter (it is a 67mm magnetic filter that I attach via a 62mm->67mm stepping ring, which does still allow the bayonet hood to be used).

Today, a picture from Derby in the East Midlands. This is Prince Charles Edward Stuart who spearheaded the Jacobite Rebellion in 1745. He and his army made it as far south as Derby before turning back and heading to a crushing defeat at Culloden near Inverness.

This is superb, really marvellous range of tones and a great composition

Nucleus and Keiss are as-was (with some levels adjustment). Castle Sinclair Girnigoe was on a day with strong haar (sea fog) and I replaced that with a gradient fill

A companion picture to yesterday. This is Castle Sinclair Girnigoe which faces Keiss Castle across Sinclair’s Bay. The Keiss part of the family were better off that those from this castle and had to bail them out. Cromwell’s army occupied this castle for about 9 years too.

This is old Keiss Castle in Caithness, a stronghold of the Sinclairs. It was built sometime around the end of the 16th century, and fell into ruin sometime in the 18th century. If you have a few million pounds to spare, it (along with the newer castle and the estate) are currently up for sale.

This is Nucleus, the Nuclear and Caithness Archives, located near Wick Airport in the Highlands of Scotland. I was visiting Caithness last week (as we do most years, to see my remaining family) and I had a little time to find and photograph this new building.
