B&W Black & White, monotone and sepia

IMAGE HEAVY I am never quite sure where to put travel photos, not that I travel all that often. Anyway these were shot at and on the way to the Pak Ou caves in Laos, at the confluence of the Ou river and the Mekong. Pak (actually pronounced with a consonant more between b and p, and unaspirated)...

B&W Black & White, monotone and sepia

I've been in Laos about 26 days now, but have had time only recently to work on some photos, in this case those I shot at Wat Phu Champassak, a fascinating place with a history going back to the 5th century, though the visible remaining structures date mostly from the 11th and 12th centuries...

B&W Black & White, monotone and sepia

I'll soon be back in Laos for two months, leaving L.A. on March 1. Here's a couple from Nov./Dec. 2019, right before covid made going back impossible. With the trusty Leica x113. I sure do like that camera.

Tonally beautiful. Have always loved HP5. It was my main film in all formats for years.

B&W Black & White, monotone and sepia

Thanks. I try to keep in mind that in the real world I'm not shooting test charts. Thanks. No I'd never put the 12-40 and the 14-150 side by side. The 12-40 is my go to lens on the Pen F for daily shooting most of the time. It's an extraordinary lens. I will probably throw in the Panasonic...

B&W Black & White, monotone and sepia

I'm going to be taking a trip in March/April and because one of the events toward the middle of April will be Pi Mai Lao (Lao New Year), a festival with a lot of water being thrown around, I'll be bringing my E-M5, the only water resistant body I have, along with the Olympus 14-150 f4-5.6 ii...

B&W Black & White, monotone and sepia

The light was gorgeous when I walked the dog around 4:00 PM. I managed a couple of quick shots with the Leica X113. The dog had her own agenda that I needed to pay attention to..

B&W Black & White, monotone and sepia

I haven't been to this thread for a while. A lot of very nice stuff up since then. In the following shots, I was using the old OM G. Zuiko 35mm f2.8 lens, not a legendary lens, but a perfectly good optic.

I think you'll like it. It's hard not to.

B&W Black & White, monotone and sepia

Ii love mine; small, sharp, and a focal length I love. I haven't used it for night photography, where I have read it can produce ugly purple fringing at light sources. Right now it is the manual focus lense I use most on the Sony FF camera.

This is really an exceptionally beautiful b&w photo. Tonally gorgeous with a bit of mystery.. Well done!

B&W Black & White, monotone and sepia

A few shot in my sister's back yard in Colorado Springs. I'm using a two year old Dell XPS 13 to edit the files, and though I love the laptop in other ways when I travel, notably its weight, going from the 27 inch desktop monitor I use at home to 13 inches traveling is a tricky adjustment. I...

Red #2 in Pen-F jpegs. Sometimes those jpegs filters on the Pen can be a lot of fun. I usually process raw files from the Pen, despite it being spurned as a "jpeg shooter"". But in point of fact it's jpegs are very very good, and the black and white options are useful and fun.

I forgot about this shot that I have always liked. I was just playing at my desk, and wasn't expecting to get anything I liked. I apologize if I've posted this before. I don't usually take pictures of my trash papers.

I suppose I could put these in the cemetery thread. They are from the addition to the cemetery I've been documenting for a while, San Jose del el Rosario. It's across the street, and like the original is now squeezed by an on ramp to I 25.

B&W Black & White, monotone and sepia

I liked this idea, but the in camera execution was far from perfect and required a bit of work in Photoshop. I think it works at smaller sizes, but I'd like to go back tomorrow with a Pen F to maximize in-camera depth of field.

More on the Sony a7II with old glass, the OM Zuiko 50mm f1.8 MC this time. Up close at f8, I think. Beautiful, golden evening light, but I nonetheless wanted it in black and white while trying to capture some of the slightly subdued but slanting, strong light.

    B&W B&W: Words/No Words

One of my first shots with the Sony a7II (new to me) with an OM Zuiko 50mm f1.8. Nothing too interesting, as I was just shooting tests. I got the Sony to use exclusively with my old glass, and I have to say the experience of using these lenses again in a 35mm format was just a blast.

    B&W B&W: Words/No Words

Continuing my fun with old OM Zuiko lenses, the 35mm f2.8 and the 50mm f 3.5 macro, which is also a very good general purpose lens. Shot on Pen F and processed in Snapseed on my tablet. You can do alot more with raw files using these old lenses. Maybe later..

Thought I'd try to photograph Christmas in black and white this year. Here's a start, though I don't yet know if if will become a project. I love this little camera, but it has now gotten a considerable amount of dust on the sensor, so it is time to send it in to be cleaned. Meanwhile thank...
