Very nice, I really like this shot. If there were one thing I'd critique, it would be the appearance, or maybe illusion, that the right side is just ever so slightly higher. Perhaps it isn't, it's hard to tell on my laptop monitor. Of course it could be the way the shoreline falls away from you...

Photographer this morning at one of my favorite bird haunts, Arcadia Marsh. I noticed him about a quarter mile away when I first arrived thanks to his shirt color choice of the day. Never did lose sight of him. I wonder if the wildlife can spot him. I know I wouldn't want to swim with sharks...

Even though the weather for this weekend's racing was beautiful, it wasn't the greatest for photography. The atmospherics were terrible. Out of almost 180 shots today only 40 or so were usable. In this shot for example you can see how the moisture in the air affected the clarity. Even from bow...

Just a tip from my past experience with airshows. The first one I shot a few years back was close to being a photo disaster. One of the often overlooked rules (45) in sailboat racing is that you are allowed to anchor. Yes, anchor. If the current is pushing you backward because there isn't enough wind to make progress up the course, you can actually move or stay ahead of your competition by anchoring. Great series...

    Near Misses

George Carlin once described a 'near miss' as a 'hit'. Expounding on that by saying if he nearly missed something, he hit it. It frustrated him when the term was used to describe a close call in aviation. If two planes had a near miss then they must have collided...but they nearly missed one...

Yes, it does look a bit odd. The bow and the deck sloping down below the pilothouse to meet the midship loading areas combined with the opposite happening at the stern certainly help foster that illusion. She was built in 1959 and has always been a Lake freighter. At almost 700 feet long the...
