    Electricity crisis

I am so sorry to read through this thread and I hope things can somehow improve for SA

    Interesting difference between forum cultures

I migrated across from NikonCafe three years ago, and I find this a better forum for me. I like that I get some feedback but I also appreciate the helpful responses when I post a question.

    Travel kit

I have also found myself carrying the 56 and not using it. Lately, I have travelled with just the 16/1.4 and 90/2 - occasionally with the X-T1 (16mm) and X-T3 (90mm). If I expect to be shooting any wildlife then I will add in the 100-400 (sometimes along with the 90, but most often instead of)...

    Excellent news, well done!

Some Chutzpah - Selling a Stolen Prototype

That seems to be the consensus on DPReview about this story.

Some Chutzpah - Selling a Stolen Prototype

It's not even a complete prototype - no lens mount or front filter ring. They are selling it for parts.

Why I would suck as a commercial photographer

I am someone else here who doesn't do this for work, and I never will - I take pictures for me and I enjoy doing it. I strive to get the best possible pictures that I can, but ultimately it doesn't matter if I don't get a picture. @Tilman Paulin that is an amazing picture - well done.

Cut the apron strings today. Quit Adobe

I'm going through the same process @Tim Williams . My Adobe subscription has a few more months to run, but I am refusing to use it now and am trying to learn Capture One. I am using GIMP 2.10 for the heavy lifting cloning that I occasionally need.

    My new-ish blog

Excellent work @tonyturley - great pictures but also an engaging narrative.

Your best work vs your favorite work

That is a great picture @kyteflyer - it is very evocative (I think that is the correct term).

Your best work vs your favorite work

Interesting point @Bobby Tingle . I take part in an online photo club and each month we submit one picture for critique and for the others to mark. This month I won with a picture that I considered "okay" but certainly not brilliant, I've seen this on Flickr as well (I got 'explored' a few...

Got the determination for a 52 week photo challenge?

I tried something similar for a monthly challenge a few years ago. I set myself 12 themes for the year, one for each month. Previous years I had been more general. I found it extremely frustrating having to change gears every month, and ultimately did not complete that year's challenge. The one...

    Great stuff @Lightmancer - congrats

    Interesting video

@Lightmancer you make a really good point, some of this stuff hits rock bottom and then bounces back to a base level, which is where film etc. has got to now I guess. Of course, the real reason that Kodak went under was that they didn't give me a job when I interviewed with them when I left...

    Interesting video

This video attempts to explain the demise of Kodak, and I thik it does make some interesting points. I remember my late father coming back from a Kodak conference (I think in the early/mid 80s). During one talk, the Kodak speaker had held up a colour 120 negative and declared that there would...

Digital Back for old 35mm Camera?

Oops, wrong Kickstarter project, the one I was thinking of was this one: DigiPod The one that the OP is talking about looks like the original Kodak DSLRs, which were bottom mounted units added to Nikon film SLRs and made them about twice as tall as they were previously, and I can only imagine...

Digital Back for old 35mm Camera?

That Kickstarter that failed was expensive plus pretty low quality as I recall - there were lots of promises to quickly make things better once it was up and running but personally I wasn't convinced. There was an April Fools gag a few years ago RE-35 | Digital cartridges for analog 35-mm...

    Strange activity on Flickr

Overnight I received a large number of "favourites" for a bunch of my pictures from a group of Flickr "users" who all have avatars of young ladies' faces, have joined in 2018, have never posted any pictures and have random collections of letters instead of real names. For example, "Renee Thomas"...
