    Totally OT but I need to canvass the pool of knowledge.

    Do as I did - I used the pre-installed Win 8.1 on my new PC for about 6 days before I uninstalled it and went back to Win 7. Cost me £30 at a local PC repair shop (don't try to DIY it, I did and it's not easy) and now I have no problems.
