    Sad news

Sad news indeed. His enthusiasm for photography was evident, and it seemed that he was a very sociable person. Condolences to those of loved him and knew him.

It's been 10 good years but it's time to bid farewell.

I trust that you are being well followed, medically. I look forward to your visits here whatever their frequency. All the best to you, despite a not-so-great situation.

    The End - endless longing

Iā€™m in the midst of sorting old photos of mine, some 45 years old. Seeing my father, who died 18 years ago, in many of the pictures is bitter-sweet and valuable. His photography interest was home movies, and theyā€™re great to watch (I had many of them transferred to DVDs). Our pasts sustain us...

    Contemplating my future

Iā€™ve been retired for eight years and a photography enthusiast almost my entire life. My advice: What does the world need more: wedding/portrait photographers or aviation safety experts? Unless you donā€™t like your profession (perhaps ā€œā€¦ Iā€™ve long been ready for a new chapter in my life,ā€ means...

    How's weather at your place?

Montreal: Sunday, the second day of a (predicted) week-long heat wave with daily highs of 30-35 C. Not my preferred kind of weather, but some love it.

This is a test . . . can you figure out what's going on with this paragraph from a camera review?

The hardware side of photography is ripe for AI picking, as is most data-driven news and information. This article is one of many about the transition from human to machine news gathering and reporting. More inane translations are to be expected. Fear and loading: AI coming for journalism jobs

This is a test . . . can you figure out what's going on with this paragraph from a camera review?

I agree that this is an automated translation ("uncooked seizeā€ i.e., raw capture). Worse still is the absence of review and editing. Thereā€™s no concern about quality, just ā€˜click' quantity. What is communication coming to? (Thatā€™s the beginning and end of my rant.)

    [Solution Found] Apple Photos

A solution to this problem is beyond my sphere of knowledge. My best suggestion is to seek help in MacOS specific forums as well as photog forums.

    [Solution Found] Apple Photos

Sue, FYI my Mac OS is Sierra. When I included my Flickr account in the Photos Share dialogue box, it required my log in and password. After a few seconds of processing . . . voilĆ !

    [Solution Found] Apple Photos

How inspiring! I just included Flickr in my Photos share accounts and uploaded a picture. So is the problem only for iCloud accounts?

    [Solution Found] Apple Photos

I think I understand your dilemma. I donā€™t use my Apple internet account for anything other than communicating with Apple. Nor do I use iCloud. I access Flickr via Safari and with the Flickr app on my iPad. I donā€™t upload images from the iPad, however.

    [Solution Found] Apple Photos

Iā€™m not aware of this issue (Photos to Flickr) because I have always exported images to a ā€˜holdingā€™ folder, named ā€œTo Flickr,ā€ and then uploaded to Flickr from this folder. Doesn't seem so arduous. And, I was not aware of the impossibility of creating a Flickr account with a Mac. I created my...

HELP!! Panasonic WiFi upload to iOS devices.

When I started with the LX100 I also tried to connect through my home WiFi network and was not successful. I then tried using the camera as the node and it worked. One of the actions on the Panasonic app is to transfer images to the iPad. This is different from looking at the low resolution...

HELP!! Panasonic WiFi upload to iOS devices.

Iā€™ve just looked at Cascable and similar apps for the first time. Didnā€™t know they existed! Iā€™ve only used the Panasonic app. Aside from some experimentation, Iā€™ve used it mostly for group selfies. Instead of using a 10 sec. delay and running to join them, I set a 2 sec delay and activate the...

HELP!! Panasonic WiFi upload to iOS devices.

I connect my LX100 to my iPhone and iPad via WiFi. One of the ā€˜tricksā€™ is to disconnect your i-device from your home wifi network or select the camera (once Wifi is enabled) as the WiFi network for your i-device. I assume that youā€™ve downloaded the the Panasonic app onto your i-device. The...

For anyone interested in weather/storm/sky photography, this guy uses Oly M43 gear

McPheeters' pictures are wonderful. Full of drama, colour, and a sense of potential. A few years ago I did some contract work in Saskatchewan (license plate motto: Land of Living Skies) and I was reintroduced to wide open vistas at ground level. Beautiful land- and sky-scapes. I snapped a few...

Important corollary to "The best camera is the one you have with you."

I did notice some dust on the sensor. I vacuumed it out! I developed the habit of running my hand around the lens barrel before retracting it to reduce any debris that might get sucked in the next time the lens extends. So far .. so good.

Important corollary to "The best camera is the one you have with you."

Since I have only one camera (aside from my iPhone, which I rarely use except to record notes & send pics via messages), Iā€™m not distracted with other possibilities. I canā€™t have it all, I donā€™t even want it all. Iā€™m long past the multiple body/lens photography era in my hobby.

This may strike a chord - it did with me.

I donā€™t know if itā€™s a sickness, or a pervasive cultural theme (or meme) that is as ingrained as eating three meals a day or ā€˜needingā€™ to get the next, new iPhone. Acquisitiveness beyond need is central to our economy. Advertising strives to convert wants into needs and necessities. I also...

A challenge for photographers: the sparkles on the grass

I seemed to get the best shots with negative EV values no matter which filter I used. negative EV probably heightened the contrast between the grass and the water droplets. Al the shots with positive or zero EV did not capture the drops.

A challenge for photographers: the sparkles on the grass

I usually look for the sparkles on the grass when Iā€™m deciding whether to cut my lawn in the morning or later in the day. Iā€™ve never thought of trying to capture and image of it, but now Iā€™ll try.

Gosh, this could almost be a poll . . .

All other things being equal (but they never are) I would choose detail. As mentioned above, though, there seems to be a difference in focal plane in the two images. Saturation is more of a personal choice, and there is no ā€œcorrectā€ level. But the definition of a petal is necessary for the image...

    My Newest Addiction - Penmanship

I forgot to include a description of my ink refilling. The Cross pen that I used for many years (and others) was only refillable with cartridges. But, I rarely bought new ones because I refilled them using a syringe (easy to acquire in a hospital). So, one of my desk drawers contained ink jars...

    My Newest Addiction - Penmanship

My handwriting is very poor, often legible only to me. Nevertheless, I used a fountain pen throughout my career to take notes during interviews and assessments. It seemed to me that a fountain pen had a beneficial effect on my writing style, providing a little more resistance on the paper. In...
