I haven't bought a new camera in six?! years and for the time being I happily stick with my X10 ... can't believe how much I still enjoy it.

When I first saw the X30 I couldn't believe how big it was (bigger than the LX100) - definitely too big for my idea of a compact camera. However, looking at cameras like the LX100 (m43), RX100-III/IV/V (one inch, EVF, fast lens), ... a one-inch successor wouldn't necessarily have to be larger...

I'd still kill for a Fuji X40 or whatever with a one-inch sensor.

It's pretty much the same over here. Gear and IQ blurb frankly bores the living crap out of me; I'm happy with what I already have and spend my free time taking shots for my projects and cleaning up my messy archives.

Maybe I didn't get you right but if : and ... and ... ... why not get any closer instead of including all those details that do nothing to support your center of attention? No offense meant, just trying to make sense of what you've said above ...

I took a short look at the Q but again, I actually don't need anything 'better' than what my NEX-7 delivers in good light at base ISO or the Fuji in crappy conditions. The older I get the more I favor compactness and flexibility over the last bit of IQ to an extent that I'm not really interested...

I've had all my stuff marked 'private' right from the start but recently I've gained some 'followers' or whatever - WTF??? Heck, it's free, I've only got some casual stuff parked there, nothing depends on it and if the whole freakin' circus goes down the drain tomorrow I couldn't care less.

During the last 18 months with Fuji X I've used the long end of the 1855 a couple times, mainly for some street portraits while my other X lenses and the NEX-7 just gathered dust. In the meantime I've sold the 50mm and the 35mm for the NEX, barely touched any of my legacy lenses and shot maybe...

I really, really like what I've seen from that lens too. Another nice aspect of the 28mm FE is that it works as a 42mm in crop mode on the A7R - basically all I need to make it through the day - one body, one lens for 90+% of my stuff.

Mainly 35mm all my life until about 2-3 months ago when I made a commitment to shoot 28mm exclusively for a while and now even 35mm look somewhat tight, lol. Looking forward to get the new 28mm/f2 Sony lens and one of those A7xyz snappers to slap it on.

That sounds good to me, David - small, light and simple. One of the great things about the NEX-7 is that it's almost impossible to drop that thing, it sticks to my hand like glue, no need for a strap. It's just a pity that the 20mm (30mm FOV) Sony pancake is no match for that picky 24MP sensor...

More often than not the IQ from the little Fujis is just good enough for the casual stuff. Did I mention the fun part :laugh1: ? Regarding the LX100 I rather stick with my X10, another X20, or the NEX-7 with a prime lens and wait what comes next.

I've owned both cameras for a short while, long enough to get a good impression (I've been shooting my X10 for more than three years now). If you're OK with the form factor and the handling of the Sony I'd say stick with the RX100 - the 1" sensor clearly wins over the 8.8 * 6.6mm X-Trans sensor...

Maybe I'm just getting old but I can't remember having had any of these issues with my film cameras. Exposure time - aperture - focus - snap. They never got in the way, and that's what I miss the most. Nice shots, btw.

Back in my college years I worked a year or so on spectral analysis of rare earth pigments. My colleague could determine peak wavelengths with his eyes down to +-1-2nm. One glance and voila. Freaking amazing. So that's what I automatically looked for first in that image, the peak wavelengths...

Ray, no doubt Fuji's 16MP X-Trans doesn't stand a real chance against Sony's 24 MP FF but on the other hand X-Trans sure holds it's own against other full frame sensors (e.g. Canon 5d Mark II)), so as you've said, it is good enough for many uses, maybe even more than good enough for most, mine...

The A7/A7r use lossy RAW compression - an absolute no-go for me, at least not in regard to full frame.

Same here. Got my LR license for next to nothing and exclusively use it to develop X-Trans RAWs on an aging PC tablet that's too darn slow for PhotoNinja.
