POTN is Closing - Welcome POTN'ers curious about Cameraderie

We do have them and no they don't turn into fights. If they do, they are deleted. You have to remember many of us shot a few (even several) different systems and can give you the pros and cons of each. They are the tools we use because they work for us. But we also acknowledge you could...

POTN is Closing - Welcome POTN'ers curious about Cameraderie

So short and sweet: If you want to create an Aussie Birds thread and feel there will be enough participation to keep it relevant, create it. Please don't double post in the Aussie and general thread and don't complain if someone only posts in one or the other. Image threads are really for...

    Any Battlebots fans?

On and off. Both of my kids were into it. Both were also in the First Robotics program in school. My elder still helps with the first program working on the robot software and managing the fields at events.

@MiguelATF Here's a true comparison with some others for good measure. Really surprised I don't have a picture with the hood and half case on the X70. :hmmm:

@Kevin is there a way to for the site to generate a PayPal invoice? A user could then pay the invoice with a CC without a PayPal account.

GAS Latest Shiny Things (non camera related)

I guess I could put this in the gear thread. I've been seeing a lot of images with toy cars made to look like full size and the little thing I got for the vision challenge was really just too small so.....

    Might get busier here?

@Replytoken I was on the Cafe about the same time I was on Nikonians. There is someone with my user ID, but I have no idea if it's my old account or someone else. It's my first+middle name and pretty rare for me not to be able for me to use. But it's behind a pay wall so no way for me to find...

    Might get busier here?

I was an occasional visitor there and left then as well. There's only been one forum I have ever been a member of that I "had" to pay to be a member of. It was a professional forum that was closed to non members and not open to search engines. They had an influx of newbies and during a change...

    Might get busier here?

Actually that's me. There was a site called "Peanutize Me". You could basically build a peanut character.

    Might get busier here?

Hello all from across the metaverse. There are differences between mu43, the cafe, and here (I'm a member of talkemount, but really just a watcher there). If someone wants we can get into it. I am NOT saying one is better or worse. But there are differences.

time for a new smart phone

My wife had the iPhone SE and now the SE 2020. My kids and I are all Android users. I have the Galaxy 10e One of the kids is getting a Note "something" The other has a Pixel 4a (he use to run custom ROMs) Yes Samsung has a good bit of bloatware, but I'm pretty good at killing a good bit of it...

Do all men have financial advisors for wives?

My wife and I have actually had joint accounts since we started living together a little over 34 years ago. But as far as spending goes we like to say: "She's cheap, but not easy. I'm easy, but I'm not cheap." I often have to make her spend money on things she needs. Sometimes it's a...

Am I the only one that does this?

This is also one of the reasons I REALLY like programming. Spell a variable wrong it doesn't matter as long as you spell it wrong all the time. If not or it's a procedural/reserved word the compiler will let you know.

Am I the only one that does this?

It's a VERY ANNOYING trend in the business world. And the current state of things with MS Teams, Slack, etc has only made things worse.

Am I the only one that does this?

I am SO tempted to edit this just for fun, but..... I really only edit my own words. (other than if a post needs to be "moderated", which is actually pretty rare here).
  28. davidzvi

Am I the only one that does this?

And a little side benefit of being a mod is I can edit my posts even when quoted. :cautious:

    Brand dislikes..

Agree on Nikon and Olympus, for me there are a lot of similarities in how they handle for me. There are things I like about Fuji, but other than "very briefly" owning an X-M1, I skipped other early X bodies. I started looking at them shortly after I got into m4/3, the m4/3 stuff just felt...

    Brand dislikes..

Have to agree with @agentlossing about early Fuji bodies feeling a bit light and hollow. It was the same with early Canon Rebel DSLRs. It's the main reason my first real SLR/DSLR was the D70, it just felt solid by comparison. Maybe that's why Classic Chrome is the only film simulation I...

    Life Changes

Terribly sorry to hear about your loss and sorry I didn't notice this post sooner. Cancer sucks. Hour by hour, day by day is all we can do. Remembering those that have past is important. Sometimes doing things we use to share helps us remember the good times better.

    Felted Wool House Shoes

I just wear socks and a pair of Sketchers slip-ons, currently a pair of Equalizer 4.0 - Triple-Play. My wife prefers slippers. She tried a pair of Sheepskingoods.com, The Scoot. Nice and warm, but a rigid sole and no padding, not really comfortable for standing. Now she's trying a pair from...

    Question for the audiophiles

Mine was something like the TD2001 but I can't remember the model. But a quick search says that one came out in 1989 and I bought the one I had 1986.

    Question for the audiophiles

These days I wish I hadn't sold my Thorens. It I were looking today I would definitely look for options like this so you have connection options. I have a nice set of powered speaked with a little sub in my office as that's were I spent a lot of time when I was shooting professionally.

    Interesting difference between forum cultures

I wasn't saying the Cafe is a bad place, I'm on there daily. I've never been a big poster of there mainly because of what I shot. Most fell into one of two categories. B'nai Mitzvahs, so a lot of 12-14 year old kid, those aren't going on an open forum. Or weddings, some my own and some for...

    Interesting difference between forum cultures

Like @Jonathan F/2 I've been a member of the Cafe a long time, early 2005 (Jonathan once rated a founders badge, I missed it by a month). So I believe pretty long before mu-43 and this site (in any of it's versions). And before "like", "agree", etc. And @rayvonn I dearly miss Uncle Frank, I...

    What went wrong today ...

Well I went for a Bodum Pour Over Coffee Maker. Work started giving away coffee so I only need to make it a few days a week now and I like ice coffee in the summer. So now I can make 2-3 days worth at once. We'll see how it goes.

    What went right today...

I don't know the ins and outs of Time Machine, but any nightly backup also backs up any flaws (driver / system updates, accidental deletions, system updates that break other programs, etc); so a working offline backup can be a good safety net. If it was configured that way from Apple I guess...

    What went right today...

@Jonathan F/2, I use Windows. But with a RAID 0 setup I'd make an image of the setup and keep it completely offline so you can restore quickly if you need to. I use to have a set of WD Blacks in RAID 0 before SSDs. Also I hate to ask, but are the SSDs RAID class? Not sure if SSDs are the...

I had a bodum years ago. The videos for the Aeropress seem to use a lot of coffee per cup, but it might be worth a look.

    What went wrong today ...

We actually have a backup. We have one of the Keurig units with a reservoir and a smaller one with out a reservoir that belonged to one of our kids, but he doesn't use it anymore. The smaller one doesn't seem to be working right either. 😵
