At the risk of going well and fully of the ranch, the medical/pharma industry here in the States is simply absurd. I look at EOB's with a billed amount near $1k and a paid amount near $100. Inova popped United Healthcare $1,200 for my pneumonia vaccine including a $90 "admin fee".... Whisky...

Keep a stiff upper lip! You're headed in the right direction. When my FiL had his many years ago he said the weirdest part was that they had wired the two sides of his rib cage back together. Evidently the cartilage takes a while to completely fuse back together and he said every once and a...

Geeze, That was a pain. I ordered the fat spring pins on January 1st from Uncle Quality Watch Straps which is in southern California. They shipped them fairly quickly and then they went for a 10+ day USPS driven trip around Virginia. The pins arrived yesterday, some 15 days after...

Sigh, When I got the parts out of the cleaner, I noticed some crevice corrosion on the stainless back which was prolly why it was so difficult to unscrew. Unfortunately this is the result of the dissimilar metals of the case as the shell is titanium and the back is stainless. I soaked the back...

What books are you reading for pleasure these days?

I'm about 2/3's the way through Hold Still by Sally Mann. Interesting book. Lot's of navel grazing, and I'm definitely not certain if she is bragging or complaining about her lot in life. A lot of the book revolves around race relations in the deep south. She, like many affluent people of her...

I'm been computer centric since the first time I laid my hands on one, circa 1976. I was taking a class in Fortran at the University of New Orleans. Our first 4-5 projects were done using punch cards. That was fun getting two runs a day trying to debug the code. And then one day I was in the...

So, As it turned out, virtually at the same time as we arrived at the venue, the sky's opened up and the wind came whipping in. As the reception was in a tent, we had to stay in the vehicle for about 30 minutes. The plus was the temperature dropped significantly and it was quite pleasant.
